Plenty of space

There were 13 of us staying for the weekend celebrating our family Christmas. The home was beautiful and very spacious. Plenty of room for all of us to spread out. The kids had so much fun. We went down to the lake and skipped rocks and enjoyed sittng on the deck. Kitchen was very well equipped with everything we could possibly need for a dinner. Plenty of dishes and cups as well. All the beds were extremely comfortable and I'm in love with that sofa! We had a wonderful time!

TERDS Reunion- Go Vols

8 guys that went to UT in the late 70’s and early 80’s drove from 5 states to the Bears Den on Cherokee Lake. Sleeping accommodations were great. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking with adequate refrigerator room when you included the downstairs refrigerators. The living room and dining area worked great for our group. Enjoyed the fire pit and the lake with our own canoes and kayaks. Lot’s to do in the area.

We love staying here! It is close to home and this is the second year we have stayed here. Clean, comfy beds. Plenty of room for everyone. We enjoyed seeing geese taking a siesta on the bank. Swimming and fishing! Roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. We were able to do it all in one place! Love Love Love!

Great weekend stay

My bridal party stayed here for my wedding weekend. It had a great common area and plenty of beds for everyone to have their own space. We brought firewood and had a great bonfire by the lake. UberEats had a few options for delivery food that made evenings easy. It had a feel that reminded me of a place you visit over and over as a child. Thanks!

Great Family Home

Everyone in my family, 6 adults and 7 children love staying here. All are talking about going back next year. That will be our third year in a row. Lot of space for everyone. Large table where everyone can sit down together for meals. Perfect spot on the lake, middle section, where you have places to ski, tube, or fish without having to travel far. Only a short walk down the hill to the dock. Also, Gilmore Dock is just around the cove for gas and drinks or to store your boat if you choose not to tie it up at the house dock at night. We had a lot of rain on our last trip but that didn't prevent anyone from having a good time. The kids went swimming in the rain until we heard thunder. House is located in a large, quiet cove where you can use the paddle boat and kayaks without worry. Just remember to wear life jackets. If you have a large group, this is the place to stay on Cherokee.

Awesome place

We chose this home as our family vacation home July 2017. What a wonderful time, the house was beautiful and the view was amazing. It was easy to book and we had everything we needed when we arrived. We had a small issues (one of the smoke detectors battery was removed) so I contacted liz. She was great, she responded right away and we were able to get a replacement. Also the neighbors were wonderful one let us park our trailers at his house because we were having problems with our boat and needed to keep pulling it out of the water. ( if you need someone contact Tri County Marine in Morristown 423-587-2151 they were able to get us back in the water fast) also you will have the pleasure of meeting Tilly who is a black and white dog that belongs to the neighbor. She stole our hearts while we were there (she even made it into some family pictures). If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy your loved ones I would recommend it.

Great Stay on Cherokee

Lot of space for large group. We had 13 people, 7 of those children from age 2-14, and I still was able to find a quiet place to take a nap in the afternoon. Great location on the lake. Very quiet neighborhood. Think everyone was on vacation somewhere else. House is on the side of a hill so I would not recommend it for those with a problem getting around. If you have children, don't let them play around the deck. Railing doesn't seem secure enough and it is very high. Take your own coffee pot. The one in the kitchen takes 20+ minutes to make 10 cups of coffee. The ice maker doesn't work so you need more trays. We use a lot of ice. Not sure the frig works right but that might be our fault for opening it so often. The housekeeper and her husband do a great job. If you have a problem they are close by to help. It is well worth it to have her haul off the trash. If you let it pile up you will notice the odor and insects. I wish there was a cleaning fee added to the stay. Having to wash linens, towels and dishes before you leave on the last day is too hectic. That day is a total loss.

The view was very nice but some things you should know

You have to pay for garbage! No garbage service and they say $35 to take garbage off for you. We left $40 and were still charged soooo apparently someone pocketed the $40. The house does accommodate as many people as advertised and the views are gorgeous! We had to wait quite a while for check in because key was not in box as promised. Inside is outdated and refrigerator did not get cold. Parking for 3 vehicles only and steep. Don’t try to bring a trailer and no boat ramp that we could find. The dock is not good for boats and jet skis and the bank is full of cable and rocks that will cut your feet. Swim off of end of dock if you swim. If you don’t have a boat or jet skis it will be fine! Due to Covid they did not supply sheets or pillows but did supply comforters which made no sense. It’s a real pain to pack that many sheets and pillows! They did offer to cancel because of that which was nice but we chose to go anyway! In summary, it’s a descent house with great views but outdated interior and certainly not plush. You apparently have to do all cleaning up yourself or they will charge and DO NOT LEAVE CASH for garbage fee! Otherwise it was ok!

Cherokee Lake Thanksgiving

The house is BIG and has everything you could possibly need for your stay. It is not fancy; but the view and roominess and cleanliness make up for it. Parking/driveway is really tricky if you have more than 4 or 5 cars and you have to be careful with backing out. Our only concern was washing all the linens and towels prior to check out- we arrange for a late check out; but cannot imagine how we would have even come close if we had to leave by 11am! It is a great place for a big gathering and we may come again in the future.

Perfect! for time together and for time on your own

Every year we look for a place to meet as a family (6+3kids) and spent a week together, trying to accommodate everybody's idea for fun and relax - children, parents and grandparents. Bear Den was exactly it! The view is mesmerizing at any time of the day (early morning coffee or sunset drink) , any weather condition (we enjoyed a lightening "show" from far away) and from any corner of the house or yard. Plenty of space, perfect for "hide and sick"- literally and figuratively, kitchen equipped with plenty of plates, silver- and glassware (no need to wait on the dishwasher to finish). We love playing in the water...there were life jackets for any imaginable size/age person. The dock is floating (we had not have this before), but it took15 minutes to get used to it. Fishing was not ideal (we caught total of 3 fish), but we had plenty of fun practicing :), jumping in the water, kayaking around and rock skipping. We could not play soccer (the ball would be in the water in a second), but there was plenty of horizontal land for feather-ball. The fire place was the division line :). We had two day-trips, to Pigeon Forge and to Elrod falls (colder water to jump in)...totally different as an experience, but both were a lot of fun. Overall, everyone had a chance to recharge and we all had a great time together. Mission accomplished!

Great trip.

We have stayed at this property before. On the side of the hill. No problem for young people. Older people might have a problem. Great location for our family. Gilmore Dock is closed, so we had to travel a few miles for gas. Rain all around us but not a problem. Getting ready to leave is always a problem. You are ask to wash and dry towels and bedding but the washers and dryers are not able to keep up with a large group. Too slow.

Great house and great host

The house is beautiful and the location we had yard space for the kids to run around and play and roll down the hills the sunset the Mountain View was absolutely what we wanted and it was granted the only thing no Televisions in the bedrooms but other than that we enjoyed our stay the host was awesome we called with a couple of questions and she was very prompt, professional and friendly we will definitely stay again if we’re in the area

Bear Den South is owned by Paul and Liz Johnson from Cincinnati, OH. We love our Tennessee home and neighbors. We are both business owners in Cincinnati and love to get away. We love to spend time with our large family, boating and travel.

Why they chose this property

Once you see the great view of Cherokee Lake you will fall in love with the lake and house like we did. We chose this location due to the beautiful views and easy access to miles of uncrowded water. It is a great location for short trip to the Great Smokey Mountains, Gatlinburg, Dollywood, and Knoxville. A two hour trip to Ashville, N.C. and the Biltmore Estates all places we like to go either with the family or friends. This is a great boating lake with the community boat ramp two doors away. If you like to ride motorcycles there are several scenic routes from the house to the Great Smokey and Cherokee Mountains.

What makes this property unique

Our family loves to boat, jet ski, kayak and swim in the clear water. We love the ability to float in the relaxation station or play in the water. There is also year round fishing on Cherokee Lake. If you are a marathon walker or runner, we have hills to walk and all of the neighbor hoods are linked by streets. There is also access to the state wide bike scenic route. Most of all when you walk out on the deck you feel the calm rush over you. Kitchen and Living room remodeled in 2024.
