About this property

Waterfront Location. Panoramic Views. Cozy Comforts. Treehouse Tranquility.

Stay in a lakefront dream cabin with 220 feet of waterfront and spectacular views!! Enjoy this newly remodeled and newly furnished cabin with a bird's eye view of the expanse of the lake. Situated perched up at the end of the peninsula, it adds privacy and tranquility. For some fun on the water, kayaks can be rented and delivered straight to the property for your convenience. The cove by the dock adds swimming safety from boats and the gradual decline allows for wading. With the cabin surrounded by tall trees, it feels like a treehouse in a cozy woodland escape. Feel the warmth and hear the crackling fire in the outdoor fireplace where you can roast marshmallows, or grill a yummy BBQ lunch. Conveniently located. Clarkson University is 13 miles from Camp Lake Bear, while SUNY Potsdam is 13 miles away. Canton-Potsdam Hospital is 14 miles away. The nearest airport is Ogdensburg Airport, 31 miles from the accommodation.

There are twenty five original charming steps reminiscent of a Irish woodland fairytale going down to the home from the dirt road where you park. On a warm summer night, if you’re lucky, fireflies in the trees make it magical. On the level of the home is where you will find a wood burning outdoor fireplace where guests can make smores or grill. Twenty steep steps will take you down to the next level down to a look out deck where you can see the boats going by. Further down, approximately thirty steps will take you to the recently renovated dock where there is a step ladder into the water for some splashing fun.
Back up at the house, there are three bedrooms that sleep 7 people. The first bedroom consists of a queen bed and side tables with charger plugs and three drawers. It is decorated with pictures of the lake and an old oar. It has hooks on the wall, a mirror, two chairs and a three tiered cart for your personal items. This room houses the furnace to the heater which might be a little loud for some in the fall if it is on. It is open to the closet for ventilation. With the bedroom door open, there is a great view of the lake from the bed. The second bedroom has a double bed with a single bunk over it. This room also houses the newly renovated shower. It has a chair, a three tiered cart for personal items, a full length mirror, and a shelving unit and a small computer desk with a USB charger. On the way to the third bedroom is a couple of steps up to a breezeway that has the restroom, and a washing machine and dryer. This third bedroom offers a bit of coziness and privacy away from the rest of the rooms making it a good room if someone needs to do remote work or hop on a zoom call or take an afternoon nap. It has an office chair and some shelf space in front of a window. This room retains its original wood like charm, has a double bed with simple side tables for the lamps, a cabinet with shelves, a shelving unit and its own heating system. The great room has the living room and dining room combined for family gatherings. The dining area is graced with newer furnishings including a large dining room table, four dining chairs and a seating bench, for meals, games, or bird gazing with binoculars. The living area has a reclining sofa with built in phone charger outlets, a rolling round coffee table, four rocking swivel chairs and a smart TV. It is surrounded by a wall of windows to enjoy the spectacular views of the lake and forest like a great big cozy hug. At the entry way is a double seater bench, a coat rack, and a lighthouse mirrored key hook.
The white kitchen is newly renovated with crisp white cupboards, double sink, electric stove, oven, and a French door refrigerator. Other appliances include a smoothie blender, toaster, coffee maker and a microwave. The shower is also remodeled with a rain shower head conveniently located in one of the bedrooms which frees up the restroom for others. The entire house has upgraded waterproof luxury vinyl flooring. Wet feet from a splash in the lake? Welcome! *Notes for bringing your own boat. It is the responsibility of the guests to find out the water levels for the area at a given time and to make sure the boats are safely secured and anchored so it doesn’t cause damage to the dock. Higley Flow may have high fluctuations of water levels from one day to the next due to the dam. We are not responsible or liable for damages to your personal boats.

Great camp!

So fun to swim in the lake! the dock is so nice! Stairs are steep but forth it. Lake water is not for drinking and cooking. Lots of boats and jet skis going by so the floating dock is hard to be on but the main dock is so lovely.

Nice Fall Stay on Higley Flow

We had some events in the area, so we decided to book a lake-front property to enjoy some quiet, Fall-season time. The place didn't disappoint. By mid-October, this area is past the fall-foliage season and boat traffic is at a minimum. This listing is accurate. The place is quiet. The host is very responsive. Enjoy!

Camp Bear Lake Family Vacation

We enjoyed a beautiful 5 day vacation at Camp Bear Lake. July 3 - 7. It was a very hot and humid week but this property has plenty of shade. The trees also provide great privacy from neighboring homes. We spent much of our time enjoying the new and very large deck/dock down at the water. Very nice outdoor fire pit area. An outdoor gas grill would be a very nice to addition to the property. The interior of Camp Bear Lake was super cute and spotless. Did not smell musty at all. The newly renovated kitchen was beautiful and had everything we needed for the week. Great new appliances also. The entire place had many windows with screens and even though it was a very hot and humid week, there was a bit of a breeze - we were very grateful for the windows and numerous fans available in each room! There is a long row of windows in the living/dining room and the view of the lake is spectacular! Furniture is very nice throughout and the beds were comfortable with fresh white linens. Plenty of towels and blankets available if needed. The bathroom was clean and the shower is new and a good size. Water pressure throughout is very good. There are a lot of stairs to get down to the water and people with mobility issues would have a difficult time but that’s really the only negative thing I can say about this great vacation property. We will be rebooking for next summer!

The Best ADK Camp We've Ever Stayed At

We have stayed in a dozen or so rented camps around the ADK over the years -- we like to vary our location but spend a week every year one place or the other. Camp Lake Bear is the best we've ever stayed at, certainly the most well-kept and thoughtfully-appointed spot, and among the more unique locations. The house is relatively new, except perhaps for the back bedroom, which looks like the original cabin. Everything is in really nice condition, and there are amenities we didn't expect (a full washer and dryer, the latter of which was indispensable when trying to dry out swim stuff). The hosts have really gone well above and beyond expectations for the little amenities: I honestly don't want to list them all, because I'd be spoiling what will be nice surprises for you. The location: you get a lovely high-up view of the lake, but your own large (new) dock, plus a nice bonus terrace level halfway between the two. It's a less isolated area of the ADK (lots of boat traffic) but you're in close driving distance of supplies and hikes, and it's a tranquil summer community along the river/flow. There are a lot of steps, to be sure, so if that's an issue for you, take heed. But we rather liked having "zones". There's a "quiet" bedroom in the back with windows on four sides, a full master BR, and a "kids" room with a split bunk. I don't have enough room to go on, but I could! Thanks to our hosts and Higley the Bear for watching over us and taking such good care of a great camp.

About the host

Hosted by Grace

Host profile image
My grandfather built a camp on a lake and I used to go visit every other summer and enjoy fishing, skiing, tubing, rowing, canoeing, and playing games with my relatives. The memories will last forever. As a host, I wish that this space will allow the guests that stay here make their own memories.

Why they chose this property

The neighborhood offers a small town rustic feel, with natural terrain and landscape, all surrounding a spectacular sparkling lake. Being by the water, is so relaxing and soothing at times, and exciting when you dare the person next to you to jump in the cold water first.

What makes this property unique

We are located at the end of a peninsula. So at the top where the road is, you can see water on both sides. Since we are at the end, it offers so much privacy. This property consists of three lots so we have approximating 240 feet of lake frontage with a nice space and trees between us and our neighbor, adding a lot of privacy. It is also perched up on the hill, giving a treehouse feel as you take in the expanse of the body of water and sky.
