This charming rustic cabin is located on the property of Watanda Lodge, Nevada City, California, 2 1/2 miles from downtown Nevada City. This is a secret hide-away with lake, canoes, and large campfire ring. Sleeps up to 5 (2 adults and 3 kids under 12) or 4 adults, linens provided for queen bed, twin bunks and sleeper sofa. Linens provided in sealed bags or bring your own sleeping bag/linens. Beds will not be made up per CDC guidelines. Direct TV/DVD. Electric heat/AC and electronic fireplace. Porta-crib available.

!!!Phone for local calls, but no cell service. Internet available at the lodge, just can't get the signal at the cabin and ATT is not adding new service or extension of service to our property.

Fully equipped kitchen contains everything you need including BBQ tools and highchair. Pots, pans, dishes, microwave, toaster, coffee maker all provided. A picnic table and charcoal BBQ sits on the porch. Single bedroom with queen bed, bunkbeds in LR and bathroom with shower.

The cabin sits on Lake Vera (filtered lake views from the back porch), canoes, chairs and shade provided. Charcoal BBQ and picnic area on waterfront. No license needed for fishing. Life jackets are provided and required for all boaters. Lake is seasonal and is drained from November (depending on rainy season) to mid-April. Lake levels begin to drop in August and can be quite low in dry summers.

Lodge located on property may be rented to others at the same time so waterfront may be shared. Inquire at time of rental if this is a concern for you. There is an ALL-LAKE quiet from 9:30 pm to 7:00 am. Only activities that do not create a noise disturbance are allowed. For larger groups, see our lodge listing @ VRBO listing #33190.

Nevada City: The Spring and Fall in Nevada City are not to be missed, this small Gold Mining town is a definite destination for a week (or weekend) of fun. There are several wineries in the area as well as many fine restaurants, and antique stores. Both Empire Gold Mine and Malakoff Diggings are open for tours. Grocery stores, hospital and other services less than 5 miles away.

SUMMER USE: April, May and June are my favorite months at Watanda, the days are warm and evenings are long. There are numerous lakes in the area and Yuba River is 3 miles away. The fairground is close by and has a variety of antique and quilt shows, horse events and home shows.

WINTER USE: Nevada City and Grass Valley both have weekly Christmas Fairs in December offering many local artisans. Great location for Tahoe skiers who do not want to pay resort prices. Cross country skiing 45 minutes away on Hwy 20, snow play less than 20 minutes up Hwy 20. Cabin at 2500 ft elevation and is located off main road which is plowed but has long driveway that is not plowed. There is parking at the road entrance if snow is a problem, but rarely is. Saucer sleds available.

Beautiful location close to town
A quiet, beautiful spot, surrounded by Mother Nature, yet super close to downtown Nevada City for shopping and eating out. If you want to stay in and cook, the kitchen has everything you need, too. Coming home from dinner to a half dozen deer was pretty special. The lake isn’t full in December, but you get to see the creek that runs through it. We stayed here years ago in the summer, and loved kayaking and canoeing, but it is just as special in the winter.

Cute & Cozy
Very clean and cozy, in my opinion, looks better in person than the photos. No internet service but not really an issue if you are going to relax and be in nature. Would love to return when the lake/pond Is in service. Had a lovely time with my girls!

Quiet get away
This was an amazing place to stay for a winter get away from the city. We would love to come back during the summer when the lake is full and get that experience too. My daughter has a disability and she was able to get around on the property as well as inside. Thank you for the amazing stay.

Rustic is an understatement
Rented the cabin for the Victorian Xmas. Once we finally found the correct place (the lodge has the same address), we were disappointed. If I could attach photos, I would. The bedding had hair and was dirty, the towels smelled like vomit (I thought my 3 yr old was just being… 3 but no, they were correct). The hair dryer is from the 1960s and smelled like it was burning when I turned it on. To top it off, the lady stated to me that I did not put everyone down on the reservation. I told her I did and she denied this. Then I reviewed my reservation only to send her a message showing her I was honest. She did apologize but I was just so surprised that this is how she responded to me. Oh and also THERE IS NO WIFI!!! This should be in bold letters on the listing in case people need WiFi. The cabin was filthy and I would never recommend anyone stay here unless they really want a rustic experience.

Disappointed…
Our stay was in late November and when we arrived the cabin was extremely cold. My husband laid on the floor and tried over and over to light the pilot for the small wall furnace. Nothing was posted anywhere (online or in the cabin) about the furnace being broken. We called the owner to find this out and were told that the small living room electric fireplace could be used as well as an electric wall unit in the kitchen. The cabin did not heat to a comfortable level until around 8:00 PM. The floors were dirty - discovered when my husband got up from the floor with dog hair on his clothes. At the baseboard between the vanity and the shower there was some sort of gross, black grime. There were only three, old, extremely thin/worn and small towels for the four of us to share. Hopefully your next winter guests will receive better treatment because of this review. We will not be back.

Cute cabin and location, sad there was no water in the lake
My friend and I rented this place for a quick get away. We chose this place because it was so close to a lake. We envisioned waking up and walking down to the lake every morning to paddle board and kayak but when we pulled up a lady said “the lake is a little low, but there are other lakes 15 min away” we drove down to check and there wasn’t even 2 ft of water and there was moss etc. I read in the bio that the lake gets low in August so I thought we’d be ok for early July. So It would’ve been nice to get a warning before we arrived that there is no water in the lake. We made the best of it though and traveled to a few other spots, but overall a little frustrating since we planned on being on the grounds for the 2 days we were there. The cabin is very cute though and cool so that was nice.

Wonderful quiet time away from internet and phone and tv
Wonderful quiet place. Kathryn communicated very clearly there was no water in the lake when I was there, and it was still very beautiful and quiet! I didn't realize when I rented the cabin there was no cel service or internet at the cabin, and the two tv's there were not hooked up. But that turned out to be a great opportunity to unplug completely. The cabin is charming, with nice details and beautiful surroundings, only 10 minutes to town. They clearly know what they're doing in organizing things perfectly for a place like this, and I really enjoyed the stay. I supposed one suggestion might be that the full carpeting in the bedroom seems to hold pet smell a lot, maybe a throw-rug would work as well and keep the air a bit better? But overall, the place was comfortable, quiet, beautiful, and well cared for. What a great little retreat space -- very quiet and close to town!

Peaceful and the perfect size!
We booked this sweet cabin last minute and had a remarkable time! The cabin had everything we needed including spectacular views, a warm and cozy space on a rainy weekend, electric blankets (ahhhh), geese honking in the morning, a beautiful sunset over the fire pit, and a running river for our dogs (the upside of the low lake... a running river). The bathroom was clean with a great shower head and plenty of shampoo, soap, etc. The kitchen was stocked with anything we needed (we brought food and spices) and there is a campsite style barbecue near the front deck, placed conveniently near the kitchen. If TV and games are your thing, it has that, too! Kathryn was a gracious host and checked in to make sure we would be OK with the rain. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We highly recommend this rental if you enjoy getting away to a peaceful retreat. No cell service, although Nevada City is nearby. We were looking forward to feeling off the grid without having to burn down time off with a long drive. Perfect.

2 day getaway
what a relaxing time. love the daily patrol of the geese families with their goslings on and around the lake. the young deer were also something to take time to watch as they move around with a daily route. Being on the lake once with a canoe and then in kayaks was a high light the property offers. the lodging is very good, we wanted for nothing. We had a very nice time and recommend this getaway to all.

Husband John is retired from California Dept of Corrections and I am a retired Registered Nurse. Both of us love being outdoors and are blessed to have had the opportunity to acquire Watanda Lodge to share with family and friends..

Why they chose this property

I worked at the summer camp next door for 20 years. My husband and I always wanted a vacation home on water and the opportunity to purchase Camp Watanda dropped in our lap.

What makes this property unique

Sitting on the deck in the evening and watching all the animals come out.
We have deer, geese, birds of all kinds, ground animals, an occasional bobcat and bear.
