Think Motel, Not Hotel
This was a last minute trip planned in about a week and I had several factors involved when choosing lodging - cost, proximity to Convention Center, offsetting food costs, and having some extra space. We rented 13 of the 50 for the FIRST robotics competition and stayed for 5 days.
Pros: Phillip is an excellent communicator. He addressed concerns after booking, arranged for a grill, which was an extra and then the check-in went smooth. The property was close to downtown with no issues getting to the convention center. There was a pool, which was nicer than I expected. The neighborhood was interesting and, although I didn’t have time to participate, I can see the appeal of the walkable markets and pubs. The rooms were clean upon arrival. Bed was not uncomfortable. Fridge was clean. Small appliances included blender, toaster, hair dryer and an acceptably stocked kitchen.
Cons: This is a complex that is dated and obviously been short-terms rentals and showing its age. The rooms have varying degrees of shabbiness and repair with a lingering smoked-inside feel. The outdoor walkways are dirty with cigarette butts and debris everywhere. There are long-term residents (some friendly, some not). Towels are flimsy. There are bugs. Floor became very grimy, forcing us to use a towel to brush feet off before getting into bed. Unappealing air freshener puffs every 15 minutes. Hot water was sporadic. In-unit laundry never really worked. General sketchy behavior including in-unit arguement
