Under delivered on as-advertised

We booked this location for our honeymoon (and had noted that in the online booking), looking for a quiet retreat after a year and a half of wedding planning. The biggest attraction was the lake front hot tub as it was too cold to get in the lake, but it was green and unusable. They sent someone to fix it but it never heated in time. The nice man who came to fix it noted he could’ve been there before we checked in if he’d known - even he recommended we should get a discount. Other issues: Ants in the kitchen, kitchen lacked many basics, fridge filter needed replacing, washer had been removed before arrival (without notice), electrical issues within home (full rooms couldn’t be used), shades were broken. With a cleaning fee of almost 400, this was unacceptable. All we expected was the bare minimum - a home listing as advertised - and instead it was a big disappointment. Would not recommend this home or any other home managed by Vacasa.

Weekend Getaway

If you’re looking for a little more off the grid getaway this property is perfect. We went “out of season” to this property and enjoyed the large home, the hot tub as well as the pool table. Its access to lake and large dock were very nice. Would rebook in “in season” to enjoy more of the lake activities.

Very nice house but...

Our group, mostly retired military, stayed at this beautiful home for a three-day bass fishing tournament on Smith Mountain Lake, and overall, we had a great experience. The location was absolutely perfect, directly across from the tournament ramp, making it incredibly convenient for us. The house itself was spacious and well-kept, and we could tell it was a lovely home in a great spot.We are a group that stays at 4-5 VRBO properties each year, so we’re familiar with the level of quality and attention that many owners provide. This house was somewhere in the middle for us—definitely not the worst, but not the best either.Positives:The house is in a fantastic location with plenty of room for our group.Spacious and well-decorated, making it a comfortable place to relax after a day on the water. The property manager was responsive when we had an issue with the electrical problem.Room for Improvement:Linens were provided, but the blankets were very thin. If you tend to get cold at night, I’d recommend bringing a heavier blanket, as each bed only had a sheet and a thin blanket. I also couldn’t find any extra blankets in the house. Some of the closets were locked, which is fine since we’re used to that, but there were more locked closets than usual, which left us with fewer options to store our things. On our first night, two of the rooms lost power, and despite inspecting the electrical box, the power wouldn’t come back on. The electrician came out the next day and

Great rental

This was a great lake rental. Located in the best part of the lake, with clean water all around. House located in quiet neighborhood, flat yard to lake and large dock looking at Smith Mountain. Bedrooms are large, with primary being on first floor. Recommendations for owners would be to lift boat lifts up towards rafters so that boat slips can be used by guests under the boat lifts. Would definitely recommend and would try to book if looking at houses to stay again at SML!

Great house and location; ant problem

House is in an amazing location with a great doc and the house itself was awesome. Need more pots and pans; better silverware. We had a major issue with ants. Sprayed every day with spray we found under sink but killing so many every evening and morning. All over kitchen even though all food was put away and cleaned every night. Took away from the house.

Relaxing weekend

Doc side was a perfect setup. We did have issues with the smart tv outside of the living room being locked and needing a pin. The beds were very comfortable and kitchen was super easy to cook in minus a cheese grater and wine opener.

Relaxing vacation with a great view

My family loved our Doc Side stay at SML. The house was immaculately clean, had everything we needed, and the beds were comfortable. The hot tub was a perfect addition to our stay! Be aware, there are at least 4 cameras on the exterior of the house/dock. While I do understand a need to keep the property safe, it was unsettling that we were on camera in our bathing suits (we have a teenage daughter).

Poorly furnished.

Dishwashing liquid was so cheap it was like water and was useless Utensils are of very poor quality. No trash bags were available other than those originally in the trash can No aluminum foil Water filter on filter needs to be replaced. Extremely expired. Plastic Glassware, plates, bowels and cups One Papertowel roll which was of extremely poor quality. Chairs and table at the dock were utterly filthy Pool sticks were very poor quality. One tips actually fell off. Other sticks are for children Master Bath sink is completely clogged. Master Bedroom curtain allows all light in in the morning Light in pool room is bent and broken Since space was so tight in the pool room, short pool sticks should have been provided. Green water in hot tub indicates algae. Towels were brand new and never washed. Resulted in significant lint shedding when drying after shower. No hand towels in powder room bathroom downstairs Not enough kitchen equipment. Wine glasses are plastic, and several were melted. Grill thermometer is broken so could not track temperature Master Bath Toilet needed to be cleaned. Pillows were very low quality.
