Whitewood Winner!

Our host thought of everything! Plenty of space, comfy beds, meticulously clean, fenced backyard for our dogs, quiet location, nearby eateries, small town charm, and handy to attractions. We highly recommend The Barbershop!

Great place

Place was clean and cute. Kitchen fully stocked even with spices used on a regular basis, this is nice to know so you don’t have to buy those extras for a short stay. There were only 4 dining room chairs which made it strange since we are a family of 5. I would not suggest counting on using the upstairs if it’s hot since it’s not finished. We used it, but it was very hot with no AC. Washer and dryer great and even had a laundry basket to use. This was a nice location close to highway to do our sight seeing in the northern black hills and devils tower.

Wonderful home and property manager

I came for a visit to SD with my husband and our 2 small fur babies. From the outside, the house didn't look too exciting ( it's an old remodeled barber shop) but once inside... wow! The place is so cute and comfortable. They thought of everything here, including blankets for our dogs. The place was clean, in a safe neighborhood and Brandi, the property manager was very responsive to any question I had. We only used the king bedroom but the bed was very comfortable. Having the fenced backyard was a blessing for our dogs after several days of hotel life. There are places to eat within walking distance, but we chose to BBQ steaks one night. Even though it's about 30 min to Rapid City and 20 minutes to Deadwood, this place is worth it!

Great property!

Beautiful home and backyard. Even though it’s small overall, the master bedroom was huge and the bathroom had plenty of storage. The backyard was perfect for our lab, who can’t run free at our home, so he thoroughly enjoyed the fenced in backyard! There were plenty of towels and the kitchen had plenty of dishes, utensils, etc. the washer/dryer were a big bonus! I brought laundry/dishwasher detergent, but if I hadn’t, it was supplied. I can’t think of anything else we would’ve needed? Very nice remodel and finishes. We would definitely stay here again!

We are the Karlsons, consisting of Tammy and Rusty (owners) and me, Brandi. I am a local property manager with over 26 vacation rental properties. My pride and joy is, of course, the Historic Whitewood Rentals consisting of The 1888 Barbershop and The Jones Building across the street. Tammy and Rusty purchased the properties in 2021 and have been diligently bringing them back to life. Tammy and Rusty both work in real estate and have extensive experience in rentals. We love our town and we love being able to protect a piece of our town's history while offering thousands of travelers the experience of staying in a home that combines history and modern day comfort. Tammy and Rusty also happen to be my parents, so it's been a fun family journey that we have all enjoyed navigating. We love everything the Black Hills has to offer and spend most of our time fishing, hunting, and camping whenever possible.

Why they chose this property

We jumped on the chance to purchase the buildings because we knew we wanted to preserve these charming historic gems. The location and neighborhood just happened to be a bonus!

What makes this property unique

I think the layout and feel of the home really makes us stand out. It's hard to incorporate historic aspects with modern amenities, but the remodel ended up doing both a lot of justice. You get the best of both worlds here- a taste of history AND everyone's favorite modern day amenities and aesthetic.
