a real gem in the historic district

Super clean and organized accommodation, in a lovely area. The design is amazing, the shower outstanding, beds and pillows are really comfortable. This was the perfect place to enjoy a long weekend in Louisville - the location was a few minutes from so many fun restaurants, and distilleries, and especially the Conrad/Caldwell House Museum (just steps from the front door) stay here for a laid back vibe and experience historic old Louisville in all it's glory.

Lovely apartment in historic Old Louisville

If you love historic districts in cities, this apartment is for you. It is well-appointed and conveniently located to many Louisville attractions. It is especially great if you want to be near the University of Louisville or the downtown distilleries. For us it was a great location to visit relatives off Bardstown Road and in Southern Indiana.

Great hosts and location

Cool space, perfect location across from the park. Comfortable beds and furniture, nicely-stocked kitchen. Quiet and private. Izzy and Nerissa were very responsive and great to talk to—nice recommendations and overall perfect hosts. And their Oh My Lollies frozen fruit pops are delicious, if you get a chance to try them!

Simply Perfect!

My friend and I had a fabulous stay in this adorable Old Louisville flat. I seriously think the hosts have thought of everything a guest could possibly want; I love the details! Communication was top-notch, personalized, thorough and timely. Self-check-in was clear and simple. The neighborhood was lovely, and we felt completely safe at all times. (important to me as two women traveling) The decor was inviting, and the furnishings comfortable. Having coffee at the ready was fabulous! It is so obvious that these wonderful hosts take great care and pride in providing an exceptional experience for their guests. If I'm ever in Louisville again, this is where I will stay, without a doubt. Thank you ladies!

Quiet and comfortable getaway

We had a wonderful time at this property during our stay. It's homey, comfortable, and in a gorgeous neighborhood. The hosts were communicative and gracious. They even brought us flowers as a welcoming gift! Louisville is a charming, beautiful and historic city. The neighborhood is full of gorgeous historic homes. It was safe to walk in, quiet, but felt right in the middle of it all. This was our first trip to Louisville but I'm sure it won't be our last. We would definitely pick this property again on a future visit.

Wonderful!

I had a wonderful stay in this house. I’m a single lady, and I felt safe in this location. It’s centrally located in beautiful Old Louisville, and you can easily walk to restaurants or just stroll the streets and enjoy the gorgeous homes. I really appreciated the black out curtains in the bedroom because there was a lot of ambient light at night from the street. The kitchen was very convenient, and the bathroom was clean and beautiful. I will definitely plan a return visit.

Great spot in Louisville

The apartment is old and charming. Plenty spacious. AC works great. The coffee maker works. The shower is basically brand new. Good water pressure and gets hot fast. Great water pressure in the kitchen sink too. The place doesn't feel like it has been designed by a conglomerate and that's nice. The location is excellent. It's a fairly short walk to the downtown area of the city and there's a couple of good coffee spots near by that are maybe a five minute walk away. Bus stop is right around the corner too. The umbrella came in super clutch one day. Street parking is not a problem near by. Very good place. Will try to stay again next time I find myself in Louisville.

Perfect Spot in Louisville

I can’t say enough good things about this property. It’s spacious, beautifully decorated, thoughtfully equipped, and has little touches (like great soaps, and coffee, etc.) that make it a five star experience. The hot water in the renovated shower? Soooo good. It feels like you’re staying in the best suite of a fancy bed and breakfast but with the privacy of it being your own space. The neighborhood is all vintage homes and across the street from a nice park. Although there is no designated parking, I had no difficulty finding a spot in front of the space. Thanks for making such a beautiful space available. It made my trip relaxing and wonderful. Id definitely stay here again.

About the host

Hosted by Izzy M

Host profile image
Hi I'm Ismail and people commonly shorten my name to Izzy. I'm a long time VRBO traveler recently turned host with my partner Nerissa. We have only one property, which means we can focus on giving you the best experience. We love hosting, and we can help you see Louisville like an insider with tips on the best art, music, food and culture - especially hard to find gems

Why they chose this property

You will be within minutes of downtown’s excellent distillery tours, waterfront park and theatres; NULU/Butchertown’s hip restaurants and galleries, the parks, boutiques and wonderful bars of the Highlands; Germantown’s exciting emerging gastronomic scene; the emerging arts scene in the Portland neighborhood; and the superb bookstores, parks and cafes of Crescent Hill. Less than a mile away are the University of Louisville’s JB Speed Art Museum (free on Sundays), and the phenomenal races and museum at Churchill Downs.

Old Louisville itself is the city's most diverse neighborhood and boasts the longest and richest history. Old Louisville consists of 40+ blocks of the city's oldest homes and mansions. The neighborhood contains the largest collection of restored Victorian homes in the country and is the 3rd largest Historic Preservation District in the U.S.

Finally, you are within a stone’s throw of some great neighborhood restaurants and bars, including:
610 Magnolia (Romantic Fine Dining)
Old Louisville Brewery (Around the corner, Local Brews)
Birdie & Vi's (Quirky Consignments and Beer)
The Magnolia Bar (aka The Mag Bar- a Legendary metal dive bar)
The Tavern (Pub Grub)
Old Louisville Coffee Co-op
Pizza Donici (By the Slice Walk-up and Pie Delivery)
Granville Inn (Beer Garden and College Bar)
Bucks (Classic Fine Dining Establishment, Brunch)

What makes this property unique

Old Louisville in and of itself is a fascinating area. The neighborhood officially contains the largest collection of Victorian houses in North America. The architecture of each individual house in unique and breathtaking. Multiple historical walking tours are available in any season and if you happen to be a history or architecture nerd then there really there is no better place to explore. Third Street which is just a few blocks away is referred to as Millionaires Row because both sides of the street is lined with enormous Victorian Mansions, many of which have been preserved or restored. Central Park hosts concerts, festivals, and theatrical performances throughout the year. The Filson Historical Society is a short walk from the flat and right across the park is where Muhammad Ali was married. If you love culture and history, then you will fall in love with this neighborhood.

The flat itself is in a house that was built in the early 1900's, which means the ceilings are high, the floors are wood and the space is well appointed. It's also located directly across the street from Central Park which was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed for the Vanderbilt Estate and of course the most famous city park of all, Central Park in NYC. The bedroom has beautiful views of the Park. Also the balcony in the back of the flat, overlooking the mature landscaped garden steals the show. To be so centrally located and have such a beautiful, natural place to retreat to once the day is done, is incredibly special.

This property is our only short term rental and we love hosting. We are both well travelled and love welcoming visitors to the city we call home. You are not hosted by a large management company or staying in a place that feels cold or lifeless, as we really strive to make the flat feel cozy, comfortable and unique as the neighborhood itself.
