About this property

Classic Secluded Cape with Separate Soaring Lofted Guesthouse

This is a classically beautiful 1840's farmhouse that has been comfortably updated. The main house is handsomely appointed with antique and contemporary furniture, and has a living room, library, eat-in kitchen, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a half bath. A roomy screened porch off the kitchen overlooks conservation land and a serene landscape and is the perfect spot for morning coffee or al fresco dining. After a day at the beach, enjoy the outdoor shower before a nap on the porch.
The original barn has been converted to a charming, bright and airy lofted guesthouse. It has a complete second kitchen and a huge stone table in the dining area that seats 10. This guesthouse has a full bath and sleeps four. All beds have covers and pillows, but not sheets or pillowcases.
The buildings are surrounded by gardens with wisteria, roses and flowering shrubs. The two-acre property is very private yet is close to all of Wellfleet's attractions: bike or drive to the galleries and restaurants, the ocean beaches, the warm bay beaches and the famous freshwater ponds.
We rent Friday to Friday and have a seven-day minimum. Arrive early to avoid late-Friday traffic and enjoy some great local cuisine while we sanitize the house for you. Our house-cleaner is meticulous.
*Lease is required and will be sent after booking by William Raveis Real Estate
Important: Linens are NOT provided but a linen service can be arranged.

Keywords: Antique Farmhouse, detached guesthouse, near ponds, mile to town, three miles to famous Newcomb Hollow beach; freshwater ponds are closer still

Beautiful grounds with Moldy House

The grounds are landscaped nicely and the screened in porch with a dining table was great. Unfortunately the main house is full of mold. The kitchen counter is an old butcher block counter used for cutting in the past 30+ years and it is full of black mold. It needs to be replaced. The downstairs bathroom in the main house has mold on the walls even a bedside table was full of mold. The blankets in the main house were musty. The owners need to invest a little money to make the house healthy. The barn is nice. The oven in the barn doesn’t heat up.

Heavenly

The grounds were amazing. It was like staying in an arboretum! And the house had a feeling of Bloomsbury. Perfect.

Really neat house with great artwork

The house - really two houses - were great for our family since the barn/loft worked well for the infant and his parents and the main house was great for the rest of us. Neat furniture and artwork - you could tell that the owners put a lot of time into it.

Great stay in Wellfleet

We had a great stay in August at this property. The grounds are beautiful and the house is a classic old cape. The barn came in handy for the kids. The house was stocked with all we needed aside from linens, which we knew. It was very hot during our week on the cape and the house became stuffy but it is outfitted with many fans. The only other downside is the mosquitoes were pretty intense around the property and some of the screens need repaired. But overall we had a nice time and we're able to access both Truro and Wellfleet easily from here.

85 Old Truro Road in Wellfleet

The house is very nice and the grounds are spectacular. The only problem was the heat (not controlled by the owner) and the many breaks in the screens, so that we were all bothered by mosquitos on the great porch. Otherwise, great.

Gorgeously decorated older house

The house and converted barn are both beautifully furnished and decorated with wonderful old prints, posters, and other art work. Very spacious and comfortable, with an amazing garden, lots of different plantings and areas. The large, airy eat-in porch is another great attraction. Very convenient to downtown Wellfleet, but far enough away that it feels very idyllic. We'd love to stay here again.

Perfect property for group of friends or couples

Amazing property, lots of culture and cool artifacts from around the world. The detached barn space is really a game changer. Great outdoor space and barn for the whole group to spend time together. Beautiful landscaping. Great location, close to everything you need to get to. Great place for a group of couples (like us), or a group of friends to get away for the weekend. Good privacy from neighbors as well. Bring your own linens, including hand towels and bath mats. Bring your own charcoal for the charcoal grill. Bring your own toilet paper, only one roll per bathroom is provided. Bring a few outdoor chairs/umbrellas so everyone has a place to sit. outside.

Remarkable

This is a remarkable property in every way - the homes, the decor, the gardens, and the location are all heavenly. However, THEY DO NOT PROVIDE LINENS, so make sure you bring your own sheets and towels (we were not prepared!). No information available about the house, other than the cleaning they expected us to do before leaving, so there is some fumbling about to find things. That said, I'd come back in a heart beat and highly recommend this beautiful, serene get away.

An exceptional space

Although this was, for us, a honeymoon stay, we enjoyed it with wonderful friends. The spaciousness allowed everyone to have the privacy they needed, while still having the fun of sharing a good time with friends. The two houses can clearly handle up to about 10 people (there were eight of us). The grounds are gorgeous. The owners are professional horticulturalists and the grounds have been laid out beautifully, highlighting the best elements of Cape Cod's flora. The facilities made our stay comfortable. The location was easy to Provincetown, to downtown Wellfleet, the beaches, and historic places along the cape. Without hesitation, this will be a place we'll come back to. If you choose to stay here, you won't regret it. A beautiful and memorable time. I know that our pictures will never fully capture the wonder of the place, but my memory will always hold it dear to me.

Fantastic!!!

As beautiful as the pictures on VRBO look, they really don’t do this property justice. The house was clean, well-maintained and the décor was great – an interesting mix of modern and antique pieces. Oh, and the yard is HUGE. The guest barn, with its long stone table (and full kitchen) was perfect for a family gathering or just watching the Red Sox. Sure, you’ll find cheaper rental properties on the Cape, but few as nice as this. Worth every penny. My wife and I loved it! Our only complaint was that we had to leave!

Perfect Family Getaway in Cape Cod

Our family was VERY fortunate to have spent Thanksgiving weekend at this lovely property on the Cape. What a find! Both houses were clean, comfortable and well appointed --- instantly welcoming---which is a rare attribute in vacation home rentals. I could tell the owner put careful consideration in anticipating the needs of each guest. Everything was perfect! As a seasoned traveler, I was pleasantly surprised to find such spacious and beautifully appointed rooms, with good lighting, quality linens and comfortable furnishings to make us feel like home. The grounds were notable as well -- together with the beautiful lawn furniture, statuary and regional plantings. The BIG SURPRISE was the barn outbuilding (guest house) that quickly became the favorite hide-a-way for my teenage sons --replete with a comfortable sleeping loft, living room with pull-out sofa, unique long slender granite dining table and full kitchen & private full bath. I think I even liked it better than the main house just because of the high ceilings and open-plan loft space. The living room had a big screen TV hidden inside an armoire, which made for a relaxing area to watch movies. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone looking for a family reunion compound or a large group of friends who just want to escape to Cape Cod for a week. We can't wait to go back!

About the host

One of the owners is a professional gardener. Maintenance at a distance is a challenge, so the garden is mostly shrubs, but contains many unusual plants, too. The rhododendron collection is extensive and concentrates on late-blooming varieties (into July). A friend is a rhododendron breeder, hence the unique collection.

Why they chose this property

Wellfleet has been our vacation destination for 20 years. We fell in love with this wonderful old house and its convenient yet quite secluded location.

What makes this property unique

The guesthouse is included in every rental. With two buildings, it is a flexible place to mix-and-match spaces to guests. As a family rental, for example, the children can stay in the converted barn/lofted space, and the adults are quite close but in their own house.
1 well behaved dog permitted per rental----absolutely no cats, we have allergies!
