About this property

Luxurious 3250sq Ft Home Overlooking Galway Bay & the Burren with WiFi

Lisheen House is a large modern spacious house covering three levels that can cater for large crowds comfortably. The kitchen dining and sunken living room is all one area and covers over half of the ground floor area. Also on the ground floor there are two spacious bedrooms with queen beds. One has a full ensuite and the other has a small washroom with sink and toilet. The next level which is again built on concrete floors for safety and noise reduction boasts an extra spacious living room with cut stone fireplace and a very large panoramic window with views of the Burren hills. Sun light is a large feature in this room and is a great place to relax with a glass of wine and browse through some of the many books that are provided. Both living rooms have 32' flat screen tv's with seperate satellite controls. The main bathroom and two more bedrooms are also on this level. One is twin and the other has a queen bed with its own ensuite. The upper level has another twin and double bedroom and a wash room with toilet and sink. The house is centrally heated throughout and during the colder times , we provide wood for the open fires in both living areas.
All our fixtures and fittings are to a very high standard and we continually strive to maintain a high quality in the house.
The house is located midway between the beautiful coastal villages of Ballyvaughan in Co. Clare and Kinvarra in Co. Galway with an approximate distance of six miles to each village. Both villages offer a good choice of shops, restaurants ,pubs and craft fair and a farmers market is held one day a week in each village. However we are very lucky at Lisheen House to have a highly rated pub and restaurant that specialises in sea food only a few hundred yards from our door.
The local fishermans wife Martina , runs a small fish shop on the pier behind the pub offering a selection of fresh shell fish every day and at weekends she has a slection of other fish such as seabass ,salmon ,plaice etc. A short distance from the pub is an art gallery and pottery shop where the pottery is made. One of the owners had her origins in Italy and offers for sale a choice of organic wines and food imported from Italy and mostly produced by her own family.
Within a half mile from the house is an area called 'The Flaggy Shore'. Here you have a small sandy beach , ideal for swimming and the start of a fabulous walking route along The Flaggy Shore where you can do a three mile loop taking the scenery of Galway Bay and passing by Lough Murree, a small fresh water lake , home to swans , ducks and other bird life and yet is only seperated from the sea by not much more than 100 feet of land. The house is ideally located for taking in all the scenery and attractions Clare and the surrounding counties have to offer. Galway , the City of the Tribes and the market town of Ennis are less than a forty minute drive while Shannon International Airport and Bunratty Medieval Castle and Folk Park are just an hour away.

Amazing location and views!

The property is in an ideal location for visiting the west coast and many of the wonderful sights Ireland has to offer. Host was amazing! We were welcomed with great detail and warmth. Family almost wanted to stay in rather than go explore as the house is amazing inside and out. If you’re planning a trip with a large family, this is the property for you.

Lovely Burrin stay for family vacation

We had a wonderful extended family vacation over the Thanksgiving holiday and this house and location could not be beat! Seamus was a gracious host and very easy to work with, and even had a fire lit for us upon arrival. The location is idyllic with Galway Bay within walking distance and centrally located as a home base for many adventures in the surrounding areas. The house was clean and well equipped, perfect for our family with multiple living spaces and plenty of bedrooms. And the views were phenomenal! Would definitely stay again!

Stunning views, cozy, quiet, convenient & clean

Clean, spacious and cozy. Overall a wonderful place to stay. Lots of room to spread out. Wood burning stoves kept us warm in November. Kitchen is fully equipped and large dining table was inviting. Washer dryer available. Comfy beds. Easy to walk to delicious restaurant at the end of the street and beautiful walking and swimming on the bay. Short drives to local attractions. Host was easy to contact and prompt with responses

Wonderful home for our family vacation. Seamus was great to work with, and the house was spacious and clean. The house is a quick walk to a great restaurant and boasts beautiful views of the Burren and Galway Bay. The location is perfect for trips to the Cliffs of Mohr, Galway, and many other popular spots. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to groups looking for a memorable trip!

A Beautiful Stay on the Wild Atlantic Way

The property was lovely, and exactly as pictured. We were extremely comfortable in the home and thoroughly enjoyed all the incredible views of the water. The town of New Quay is quaint and welcoming. We have a lot of amazing memories from our visit to Ireland. We couldn't be more grateful for Lisheen House and all that Seamus did to make is so comfortable for our large group of 11.

Great property well suited to a holiday with the extended family

We had a lovely week at Lisheen house. The house is very well set up and equipped for large family groups, with a great location for nearby beaches, Kinvarra and Ballyvaughan. The upstairs lounge is a particularly great spot for watching the sun set over the connemara mountains. The kids really enjoyed the large private garden.

Family Vacation

Seamus was extremely communicative and the house was very well appointed! Beds were super comfortable and the house was overall great for us to gather together while also allowing for private time and space when desired. My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. Family fun

This trip was about gathering extended family and having lots of laughs and family dinners and late night card games, early morning swims, lazy strolls around flaggy shore, finding cozy coffee shops or in this case a lovely chocolate shop. Location was perfect for all those things. Comfortable cozy home with lots of gathering spaces. We had a beautiful time together

Great place to stay with multiple people

We were here for our wedding and brought about 9 people with us. We were comfortable here with 11 people. Short walk to the beach and Linnane’s, both were great! Our only complaint would be the coffee maker. My husband’s uncle had to clean it out multiple times before it could even be used because he said it was gross. Otherwise everything was great!

Lovely house, great location

House was great, had lots of room for all of us. Well supplied kitchen. Great views from the upstairs living room. Listing pictures do need to be updated however as a new house has been built across the road so there is no longer an unobstructed view of the ocean from the front at ground level. Loved our stay here and it’s in a great location to see the west of a Ireland and close to Galway.

About the host

Hosted by Seamus Marlborough

Host profile image
I was raised on a dairy farm that was unique in that we processed and packaged the milk ourselves and distributed it throughout much of County Clare. We sold that side of the business in 1998 but we still live on the farm where we now raise beef cattle. When I married my wife Mary, we built a new home on the farm and since then we totally renovated the old farm house I grew up in and started doing self catering. We now have three beautiful homes in different locations for self catering and enjoy meeting new faces all the time.

Why they chose this property

We loved the Burren National Park and spent most of free time driving or walking through it. We had a special love of the New Quay area because of the scenery and fabulous walking routes around it. In 1999 we started looking for a piece of land in the area that we could build a house on. Eventually we found this great site with views of the ocean and only three hundred yards from the local pub and restaurant. We went to an American architect who lived locally and between us we designed what we now call Lisheen House.

What makes this property unique

There are several benefits choosing this house. With its great space and two living rooms, one normally finds when families are staying with children, the children find their own space in the upstairs living room, leaving the adults free to do their own thing in the downstairs living area which is all part of the kitchen dining area allowing them to enjoy a drink and relax, while still keeping an eye on what is cooking at the same time.
The location of the house is another benefit, the peace and quiet of the area and yet its proximity to the local pub / restaurant, harbour , sandy beech, beautiful walks , historic features and much more.
