Luxury and Comfort Await:
This spacious cabin features three beautifully appointed bedrooms and four bathrooms, making it perfect for multiple families or groups traveling together. The fully equipped, large kitchen with a double oven and dine-in wine cellar invites you to cook and dine in style. Entertainment options are endless, with a bumper pool table, ping-pong table, indoor shuffleboard, poker table and an arcade machine. Cozy up by the fireplace or unwind on the large deck, complete with a Jacuzzi and grill – all while soaking in the serene mountain views.

And, we now have fiber optic internet with Spectrum so you can do work or school from the cabin in the woods!

Pet-Friendly Accommodations
We warmly welcome your furry family members at The Retreat! Pets are considered an important part of the family, and we’re happy to accommodate them. There is a pet fee of $100 for the first dog, with an additional $50 for each extra dog, up to a maximum of three dogs. We want your pets to enjoy their stay just as much as you do, so please feel free to bring them along for your mountain adventure.

Seasonal Considerations:

The property is accessed via a short 1.5-mile unpaved gravel road, which is common for homes in the Carolina mountains. This scenic drive adds about 4 minutes to your trip, making the total travel time to Ingles Supermarket and downtown Black Mountain approximately 8 minutes. The road is regularly graded and safe for all vehicles so two wheel drive vehicles are perfectly safe for travel to/from the property. While it’s a bit different from city driving, the peaceful journey through nature is well worth it, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of urban traffic.

Your Safety and Comfort:
We take your safety seriously. All bedding and towels are thoroughly cleaned between stays, and we disinfect frequently touched surfaces like light switches, doorknobs, and remotes before your arrival.

Explore Western North Carolina:
Discover endless activities, from hiking the Appalachian Trails to exploring the historic Biltmore Estate, the largest privately owned home in America. Enjoy local wineries, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and adventures like hot air balloon rides, fly fishing, horse back riding, zip lining, waterfall hikes and white-water rafting. As well as antiquing, golfing, spa days, local craft breweries and more. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat or outdoor excitement, there’s something for everyone in every season.

Spring break trip

This was our first time going to the mountains and had an amazing time. The kids had a blast hiking the trails and playing by the stream. It was so nice to unwind and have the kids off technology and experience nature. We will definitely do this again!

Fantastic rustic cabin

This was the perfect cabin for our family trip to NC for NYE. We stayed for 5 nights and had an amazing time. The cabin was great. Very well appointed and stocked, more so than most cabins we have rented. Lots of games to play, great views and plenty of space. It’s pretty remote, which is what we wanted, but the drive to the cabin was a little hairy the first night in the fog and rain. Overall we had a great vacation, the cabin was amazing and Sherri was helpful and responsive. We would definitely stay there again.

Excellent Vacation

This is the second time that we have rented and it remains one our favorite spots. The house is exactly as advertised. Well maintained, spacious, and clean. The property has a lot to offer: mountain location, spa, and game/wine room. Despite the relatively recent hurricane there was no damage, roads were navigable, and the stores in Black Mountain were open for business. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful Week!

Relaxing is the best description for our stay. The house is warm, welcoming, comfortable and fully equipped. The property manager & owner are professional, friendly and accommodating. Our days started and ended on the deck overlooking the gorgeous views. The mountains keep calling us back……we’ll see you next year!

A favorite family tradition

After four years of staying in this wonderful cabin, I asked our granddaughter about staying next year, and her answer "of, course! I love it here!" The BR set-up, four bathrooms, huge downstairs area for play and stocked kitchen make our time so easy to relax. In previous years, we may have wanted faster internet speed, but were so pleased that it was super fast this year! Thank you - we feel like your extended family!

Annual friends and family mountain get away

Our two-family group had a wonderful stay! The property was even nicer than we anticipated, super clean, and all the space was thoughtfully set up for a group. We spent a lot of our time on the porch, soaking in the peaceful view and unwinding in the hot tub. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessary tools, which is often not the case with VRBO homes. The home location is well tucked away from the surrounding area, and full of quiet nature. The kids really enjoyed visiting the stream and tire swing down the road, and we made s’mores at the fire pit by the pond one night. We will definitely look to book this property again!

Wonderful Stay a Ten out Ten

We celebrated our daughter’s graduation at this beautiful quiet cabin in the mountains. The kitchen was stocked with everything a person could need from paper towels and spices and hot chocolate to air fryers and toasters. The kids loved the games in the room and they were all maintained wonderfully !! The grounds were beautiful and the area was so quiet and relaxing The road was well maintained and my daughter with a truck did not need to use her four wheel drive but I preferred it. Highly recommend this cabin and Sherri the host was responsive and very accommodating.

Fall retreat

Beautiful location with fall foliage and mountain views. Close to the town of Black Mountain and Montreat. 20 miles to Chimney Rock State Park. We found this to be a perfect relaxing getaway location. The brisk mountain air made evenings in the hot tub so relaxing. We will return next year!

Great vacation spot

This was our second stay at Highrock cabins and it was again wonderful. We rented 3 cabins and had a large group. We love the views, hiking trails, and property. The fire pit and tire swing add a bit of extra fun. The property manager is amazing and responded quickly when we had a question and needed a quick repair. Although it is nice to “unplug” it would be helpful if the wi-fi were a bit more reliable. Overall I definitely recommend and we would visit again!

Perfect getaway! The cabin itself is amazing. Everything was clean and organized when we arrived. The property offered a breathtaking view of nature at its finest. I had a 2WD car and made it up the gravel road without any issues. Overall highly recommend this for all!!

Mothers Day getaway

The cabin was perfect! We cooked all but one meal in the well-stocked kitchen. We are slept like a dream! Beds were extra comfy. We used the hot tub nightly and played with all the toys in the basement. Everything was in working order and ready! One caution: the road is steep in places and gravel. None of us had all-wheel or 4 wheel drive but if you do, highly recommend you bring that vehicle. The road is well-maintained and the cabin is tucked away peacefully.

Lovely cabin

We had a group of friends stay the weekend for one of our birthdays. The cabin was very clean and spacious. The kitchen supplies and appliances were very accommodating. There were also extra blankets and a spare air mattress. Beach towels were provided for the hot tub though there were not many extra bath towels/rags. We were able to arrange drivers to transport us one night though they were not enthused with the distance so it was a bit expensive but not outrageous. Only major downfall is the fire pit is not located at the cabin. The only one I saw was down the hill by the pond on a tiny island.

Host profile image
Larry and Sherri live in south Florida with 4 children ages 22 to 35. Their parents live in NC and Georgia, and the family travels to western carolinas as much as possible. They love the outdoor hiking, boating and many other activities.

Why they chose this property

We wanted to be close to Asheville, a city with an airport, university and culture events, and also close to both parents in Geogia and NC. We love the quaint town of Black Mtn with great restaurants.

What makes this property unique

Biggest benefit is being only 10 minutes to town for food/gas/etc...and 20 minutes to the city of Asheville, BUT having a peaceful property with beautiful views and feeling like we are away from it all!!!
