About this property

Wind Down Log Cabin in the Woods with Cozy Woodstove

The Wind Down is a beautiful hand built log home nestled amongst huge cedar trees and perched next to a small babbling creek, lush with ferns.

Conveniently located directly off Old Island Highway and centrally located for exploring the island. Make this your stopover en-route to Tofino or North Island or stay for a while and enjoy this amazing area! Qualicum Beach, Parksville & Coombs are all within easy driving distance. Just a couple minutes to the nearest beach, 10 minutes to the quaint town of Qualicum Beach, 15 minutes to Spider Lake, 25 minutes to Horne Lake Caves & 45 minutes to Mount Washington, it’s within easy reach of all your outdoor pursuits! Simply a perfect place to get back to nature, kick up your feet and fall asleep to the sound of rain on the metal roof.

When we say hand built, we mean it! The cabin was constructed from the ground up with lots of hard work and love by Francis Provencal who lives on the other side of the creek with his partner Courtnee & their 3 children. From falling logs on the property, milling lumber, building the cozy interior, doors & shakes to adding all the live edge finishing touches.. He did it all in hopes that you will come wind down and enjoy this beautiful land.

The cabin welcomes you with a lovely open living area. Hand peeled logs and real wood floors bring the essence of nature inside. There is a TV with a Firestick (for streaming) along with a DVD player and a large collection of DVD’s. Enjoy a fully equipped kitchen with all the cooking essentials as well as coffee & tea. Climb up to the spacious loft where two comfy queen beds will have you resting easy or use the queen size sofa bed in the living area if you need extra space. There are 2 large decks - front and back, allowing you to take in nature and use the BBQ (propane included), rain or shine.

The Wifi works great but cell phones only work well outside the cabin so using wifi calling on your phone is a good solution.

Free designated parking area is right outside the cabin.

You will have lots of privacy and will likely only glimpse a couple people as your cabin is located beside just one other. The property owners live on the other side of the creek so you although you won't see them, they aren't far if anything is needed.

Pets are welcome! The rear deck is fenced but the yard itself is not so dogs must be well behaved & supervised if they are off leash on the property. Please indicate if you plan on bringing your pooch by adding them to your reservation.

We kindly ask that you’re not excessively loud, especially after 10:00pm.
-Please let us know if you plan on bringing your pet by adding them to your reservation.

-If your dog is off leash, you must be outside with them.

-There is a provincial fire ban in effect for summer 2024 so there are no fires permitted at this time.

Cozy cabin is really cozy.

We enjoyed our stay here, the place is clean and quiet. I can hear the nature's sound. Everything you need is already available in the cabin. No hassle with checking in/out. Host is responsive to my message. Our family specifically like the wood fire pit. The whole place itself is nice. Highly recommend it.

Wind Down Cottage

A four day stay with our dog, the cabin was cozy with a wood stove and built in electric heater. Wifi and TV.The kitchen had all the basic utensils we needed. The BBQ out back was a little temperamental, but once lit, it did the job. There are two cabins on the property we stayed at with two campfire pits and chairs. A great set up for multiple friends/family or some type of reuniion.Plenty of precut fire wood on site that costs about 10.00 a container. Two containers easily lasted us the 4 days with the would stove.Great little holiday, would recomment it and do it again.

Loved how the train tracks were just behind the cabin. We went for several walks along them and our son loved finding little lizzards, bugs and slugs. We even came across an ant hill near by!

Good and Cozy cabin!

Thank you Bree for letting us stay on the cozy log cabin. We travelled there during spring break (2 adults, 3 kids ages 10-5) for 5 days and 4 nights and during the stay the whole family enjoyed the stay. The place was cleaned and we had all the supplies needed there, we did not have to get any other supplies but food. The beds upstairs were good enough for us as we still had smaller kids that just sleep together. It got hot upstairs on the loft during the nights due to the nice wooded stove that we used all the time during our stay, still need to figure out how to get it not so hot upstairs at night haha. But that made it fun for us to experiment on how much wood to put and etc. Plenty of wood to use as the shed is just outside the cabin if you need more. Location is great, and it was easy to find during the day. It was good location because it was centralised enough that it didn't feel far away which was good. Parking was in front of the cabin so that was good too. Overall we would definitely visit there again maybe in the winter time and play with the wooden stove again when its colder haha. Communication with Bree was easy and quick to respond. Thank you again for the lovely experience that we got.

Sisters Retreat

Cozy, rustic little cabin - a little small for 6 mature adults - only 4 chairs for dining. Great location but hard to find in the dark. The outhouse and woodstove came in handy when the power was out. We had a great time tho'!

The best place to stay!

We were fortunate to have the opportunity to stay at this location. It was clean and peaceful! We were sad we had only booked one week and not two. We will definitely be returning to this location. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need; from brewing your morning coffee to preparing a steak dinner. Don't be put off if you are unsure about the outhouse! The outhouse is the cleanest one I have ever been in. Comfortable to use with enough outdoor lighting for late night trips to the bathroom. The back deck is amazing and provides a good view of all the owls who swoop through the trees at night. Thank you to Bree for trusting us with this space for the week! We hope to return for another summer holiday :)

Nice setting

Cute little cabin in the woods, wouldn’t necessarily take little kids next time as it’s not super kid friendly, but great place for a romantic weekend or girls weekend away

Cozy cabin perfect for family get away

Cabin that we stayed was newly built so had such nice fresh wood smell and well thought designs inside. Kids had a wonderful time playing in and outside of the cabin. Things that could be improved: 1. Address and map on the website were not accurate, we looked for the cabin for a while in the dark before calling to the owner. 2. Toilet seat is a bit in deep position that for small boys it is tricky.
