About this property

One bedroom New Orleans style cottage located on the Petite Anse Bayou near Rip van Winkle Gardens, Avery Island and Jefferson Island. It is the ultimate get away for peace and relaxation while being close to what South Louisiana has to offer. Enjoy the great food and experience the charm of the Cajun culture. Experience the calm of nature while sitting along the bayou listening to the birds, watching the ducks and fishing if you choose.
The space
A breath of fresh air with a melancholy feel. Take a step back from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the sounds of nature as well as the steady gulf breeze. Relaxing and soul filling.

Guests have access to the entire property, boat landings/dock. Boathouse is currently under renovation until further notice
Other things to note
The cottage is located in the heart of French Louisiana. Enjoy the many delicious restaurants offered in Abbeville, Lafayette and New Iberia. Two hours away is New Orleans and several famous plantations on the river road. There is Oak Alley, Houmas House, Laura and Whitney Plantation. Lafayette is home to the Acadian Village and Vermilionville.

Closer to the cabin, is the famous Tabasco farm and factory. The Jungle Gardens are a sight to behold. The bird sanctuary is not to be forgotten. It houses many species of breathtaking birds. In the opposite direction, is Rip Van Winkle Gardens which offers many spectacular photo opportunities. Enjoy a great meal at Cafe Jefferson while you are there. Shadows on the Teche, built in 1834, is located 6 miles from the cabin. Tours are available.

The cabin sleeps 4 (one bedroom and a sleeper sofa). There is a beautiful deck with a covered porch to enjoy the breathtaking outdoors. The kitchen is equipped with a commercial oven and stove for those that enjoy their hand at cooking. There is a fire pit along the bayou. A canoe, two kayaks are available with children’s life vest. Fishing poles are also available for the angler at heart. Washer and dryer are available in the bottom area.

We enjoyed the area. Not sure why it was considered a 2 bedroom that sleeps six. There was one bedroom with a queen size bed and a couch in the living room. My biggest complaint is that it was not very clean, also the stove was a wreck. No knob for the oven and was scary to ignite. There was also bent burner knobs. The washer and dryer also were very filthy. we do rental like this so we have access to do laundry. Also never found an Iron which was listed in the amenities which I really wanted to use. We did like the house very much just could have been a little more up kept.

Christmas Getaway in Louisiana

Overall stay was nice and rental was unique and clean and we loved the country feel. Very lovely home. Disappointed that the refrigerator and freezer did not work all during our stay and we lost some groceries that we ended up having to throw out. It was inconvenient that we had to keep getting ice to keep in the freezer to keep some things cool like an ice chest, but we compromised. Thought the owner would have compensated us something for the inconvenience, but he totally stopped replying after we told him we unplugged and tried to troubleshoot to get it working but failed.

Private, cozy, and perfect get away

Very well kept and updated. Yet, had a retro feel. Waterfront on the bayou, fire pit area, porches overlooking the bayou, fully equipped. Wonderful place to stay!!

Relaxation

I really needed a break from life. It was totally relaxing and stress free, quiet and peaceful. Very clean on the inside. Loved watching the little alligator in the bayou. Will totally come back again when I get a chance.

AMAZING

First of all, OMG 😍 the pictures does not do justice! The Blue Jay Getaway is such a cute and comfy home. We absolutely felt home here. The kiddos slept on the fold out couch and said the mattress was comfortable and so of course my husband and I laid on it and agree as well. The lights outside come on automatically at night and give it such a cute and romantic glow, it would be awesome for just couples as well. It is small, 1 bedroom, 2 bathrooms and the only shower is in the master bathroom but that wasn’t an issue with my family of 4 at all. Patrick was amazing as well. Anytime I messaged him, he responded within an hour. He also left some cute little surprises for us as well…I won’t tell what it is so I won’t ruin it but thank you Patrick! We definitely made some new memories. I really wanted to see some gators and so we went on a swamp tour and only saw 3. Sunday night was our last night there and we got a little surprise at the river. WE GOT TO SEE A GATOR!!! It was a small one about 3-4 feet long but it swam over to see us from the middle of the river. It never got out of the water and we never felt endangered. It was an amazing site to see. It stared at us as we stared at it. I absolutely recommend The Blue Jay Getaway for small families or couples and plan on going back!

One of my best experiences

This place is amazing!!! And the host Patrick IS a SUPER HOST!! We love the blue jay getaway soooo much. The house was wonderful clean and comfy I will be back to stay again!! ☺️ And they give u complimentary snacks and drinks! If y'all need a place in New Iberia Louisiana the blue jay getaway is the spot.

Great Getaway

We stayed during a week-long travel ball world series event, hoping to fill time between games with fishing and enjoying the outdoors. This property did not disappoint! Clean, comfortable, quiet and peaceful. We fished, set crab traps, barbecued, played outside and listened to records while enjoying the AC inside. Had a blast from start to finish! We'll plan to stay here again next year.

Relaxing getaway

This was perfect for a much needed getaway/work weekend. My wife and I are business owners and we needed some quiet time to catch up on work. We were able to take a nice evening ride down the Petite Anse Canal with the kayak provided. We would definitely book this trip again in the future.

Our weekend at the camp.

Property was impressive. High quality furniture for such a small house, commercial size stove, refrigerator, extra ice maker, HUGH TV. Extremely comfortable sofa. For a one bedroom, lots of space inside and out. Would be great for a family reunion, barbecue, party of any kind. Bottom bathroom would need to work! Fishing NOT so good, but guys tried and enjoyed themselves. Nice to sit out and enjoy the view. Master bathroom without a door NOT for everyone but also HUGH. We needed help getting into house but host responded to my call for help without 10 minutes, Thank God! Thankyou Patrick. Front porch could be cleaner, lot of bugs on outdoor furniture, windows, ceiling corners. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. Impressive and comfortable enough to go back another time.

Definitely a place of respite

The Blue Jay Getaway is a cozy and comfortable place to stay. It is well-named as a getaway. It is on the banks of Petite Anse Bayou where you will probably be visited daily by the ducks. Coffee on the deck is the best. The house is very well-appointed. The kitchen is designed for cooking for a family; large fridge, commercial stove, and most of the small appliances you might need. Large TV's in the living room and bedroom with satellite/cable. The record collection is very diverse. Outside is great with a firepit and huge lot. It is within 10 minutes of New Iberia. Communication with the host is courteous and timely. The only concern is that it is listed as a 2-bedroom and it is actually only a 1-bedroom.

Family getaway

nice place to relax

we had a great time relaxing both outside on the porch, by the fire, and inside on the comfortable couch. loved all the well thought out details and we had everything we needed. the decor inside and outside the house was very nice too. i can see why this place is always booked and i feel lucky we were able to stay here!

Great location to get away

Great location for two friends looking for a weekend away from day-to-day responsibilities. The owner was attentive and responsive. The mattresses on the bed and pull-out sofa were comfy. Bring your own measuring cups and spoons if you need them for cooking. Loved the holiday decor and record collection!
