About this property

Winter Price Reduction! Fully-Equipped Downtown Studio Apartment

About this space:

The Aerie is a unique, fully-equipped apartment located in the heart of downtown Toronto. This space is a part of our home, so we take great pride in ensuring that it is set up for maximal comfort and relaxation. Experience the calm and privacy of a quiet residential neighborhood, while enjoying the convenience of being steps away from the central business and entertainment districts.

The Aerie gets its name from the family that lived in the house in the late 1800s, who were known as the Berkeley Street Eagles. Also, like an eagle's nest, it looks over the rest of the neighborhood from a surprising height.

The apartment features an eat-in kitchen, with a full-sized refrigerator, induction stove, microwave, and dishwasher. The kitchen is fully stocked with every item you might need for cooking, baking, dining or entertaining.

The main space includes a queen-sized bed with a pillowtop mattress, and a sectional sofa that can be converted into a full-sized bed. There are plenty of storage dressers and hanging space for clothes and other personal items. There is a 55" OLED television, and it's all set up with streaming services and basic cable. Best of all, a gas fireplace makes the space feel especially cozy and welcoming.

The spacious bathroom features a separate shower and bathtub, as well as a skylight. A washer and vented dryer can be found in the main closet, along with laundry and cleaning essentials.

Guest access:

There are 33 steps to the front door, so this apartment is not suitable for anyone who is afraid of heights or who has difficulty with stairs. For those undaunted by the climb, spectacular views await you in a relaxing space that feels miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Other things to note:

* For long stays, we will accept and store advance grocery orders on guests' behalf.
* Baby items are available upon request, including bedding, booster seat/high chair, and stroller.
* Additional mattresses and bedding may be available for families.
* We can assist to arrange affordable short-term street parking permits.

Wonderful

Had a great stay at the Arie, walking to downtown is as easy as described. Klaas and his family were gracious hosts. I didn't need anything during my stay as everything was extremely well-prepared, but I have no doubt that if I had just asked, it would have been solved in no time. I would definitely recommend the accommodation to other guests in the future.

Host profile image
We both work at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University). Klaas is a professor in the Philosophy Department. Mary Beth works in the School of Graduate Studies and is the Program Administrator for the Master of Nursing and the PhD in Urban Health programs. We've done long-term stays in Australia (Melbourne), England (Oxford), and the Netherlands (Amsterdam) so know what it is like to live away from home for months at a time. We truly understand how important it is that your accommodations when traveling be comfortable, close to everything, and equipped with all the things you might need for daily life. We hope you find The Aerie is all of these things. Most of all, we want you to feel at home! We have two amazing children (Emma and Jacob) and we have lived in the Cabbagetown South community for close to 20 years. Our primary residence is 339 Berkeley Street - we live on the first and second floors - so you will see us around. Feel free to say 'hi' anytime! We are also readily available if you have any questions about the apartment or the neighbourhood.

Why they chose this property

Toronto's Cabbagetown district is a charming mixture of Victorian homes with beautifully kept gardens, fabulous restaurants, gastro pubs, ethnic grocery stores, bargain shops, and antique stores. This community is in the heart of downtown Toronto, and is walking distance to Riverdale Park and Farm, Allan Gardens and Conservatory, Yonge and Dundas (Eaton's Centre, Yonge-Dundas Square), Bloor-Yorkville, the Distillery District, Toronto Metropolitan University, the University of Toronto, the hospital district (St. Michael's Hospital, the University Health Network, Women's College Hospital, Sick Kids' Hospital), MaRS, and the extensive Don Valley trail system. The house is one block from a large grocery store, and even closer to a public library and a lovely French bakery. It is also close to many parks, community centres, a state of the art aquatic centre, and public transit.

What makes this property unique

This is a peaceful oasis in the middle of downtown Toronto. It features a fully-equipped kitchen, full bathroom, and a washer/dryer.
