About this property

Family Friendly Homestead + 2 Aquarium Passes located 25 minutes from Monterey

This bright and clean coastal cottage on the Monterey peninsula comfortably sleeps 9 and features a lovely enclosed backyard with ducks, chickens, veggies and flowers.

* This is not a home share - you and your guests will have the property completely to yourselves. *

Your stay includes 2 guest passes for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which can be used multiple days during your visit!

Our living room has a new addition - a baby grand piano that you are welcome to play! The living room also has two leather couches and a TV with Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and Prime video.

The primary bedroom features a memory foam king bed, desk, dresser and an attached bathroom with a stall shower.

The first back bedroom (white walls) has two super comfortable memory foam full beds.

The second back bedroom has two twin beds (one with a memory foam topper) and an adult-sized memory foam cot. Each bedroom has room-darkening curtains.

For smaller groups, the cot and second twin can be stored away to maximize floor space.

Our hall closet is stocked with games and puzzles and the back white-walled bedroom has an assortment of books and toys available for your use.

We have a newer pack n play and high chair available for our guests with infants — let us know if you’d like us to set them up for your group!

The kitchen is stocked with oils, vinegars and spices, along with a microwave, pressure cooker, Vitamix blender, Kitchen-aid mixer, toaster, air fryer, pasta maker and any cookware you might need to whip up a fresh meal. We leave unopened condiments and some canned food in the pantry for your use. You’ll also find cookie cutters, sprinkles and other baking accessories in the pantry.

The coffee bar features a Keurig stocked with coffee pods, along with creamers, sugar, hot cocoa and oatmeal. We also provide a drip coffee pot.

Our ducks and chickens lay eggs from February - October, so if you book during those months we’ll leave fresh eggs for you in the fridge! (The duck eggs are especially good in cakes)

Our private fenced backyard has an outdoor table and chairs with a large umbrella providing shade, a grassy space for playing, climbing roses, dozens of varieties of flowers and planter boxes filled with veggies.

Feel free to visit our feathered friends in the back and toss them lettuce treats from the garden, but please do not release them from their coops. The greenhouse and garage are locked, but every other area is accessible.

The family bath has a tub/shower and a marble double vanity, with a stool to help children reach the sink.

A Blueair large area air purifier helps to keep the air in our home fresh and clean.

You’ll be close to shops, grocery stores and restaurants, but the home and backyard are much quieter than you might expect given the central location.

We can usually accommodate early check-ins — send us a message when you place your reservation if that’s something you’d like!

We love the Monterey peninsula and have put tons of love and work into this home over the past eight years. We cannot wait to host you.

Girls weekend

Several friends went to see Keith Urban in Salinas at the Rodeo grounds. This property was just a few blocks away so we could walk there. The property included free passes for the aquarium so we spent a fabulous day on Cannery Row and had a great dinner at the Wharf. The Steinbeck Museum is nearby and Carmel a short ride away. What a fabulous time we all had!!! Would definitely rent this place again for a large group. The owner was readily available but not needed because she already completely informed us of everything. There is also a lovely backyard where we ate and shared cocktails in the evening. It was perfect for us!

Wonderful stay

We really enjoyed our stay at this great house in Salinas! The home was great for two families to share with a nice big dining room table and a living room that was comfortable for all. The ducks and chickens in the back yard were a great addition, as were the fresh eggs that Katharine left for us! The house was nicely decorated and Katharine left fresh flowers and coffee, both of which were greatly appreciated. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful Space w/ DUCKS & CHICKENS!

Upon entering this house, it is captivating and quaint! The hosts provided fresh flowers; eggs (unfortunately the ducks and chickens weren't laying at that time, but they provided store-bought eggs anyhow!), and butter; coffee and creamers; and some of the standard fare - oil, etc; and supplies for the showers! It was clear that the hosts were intentional about ensuring that our stay was wonderful from the outset! Additionally, anytime I reached out via the chat, the response time was quick and clear! While we weren't able to use the aquarium passes due to our itinerary, we all discussed the desire to return if our group is big enough to fill the home! Everyone in our group discussed how "good" the home felt. Definitely planning to stay here again!

Amazing House and Host

Absolutely wonderful place! Everything was clean and just as described. The kitchen being fully stocked was a plus and the whole house is filled with extra accessories like hair dryers, iron and ironing board, etc. Comfortable beds all around. Host is absolutely phenomenal with the hospitality, was very communicative and graceful with check in/check out. Made us feel very comfortable. The fresh chicken and duck eggs were delicious. Can’t forget the aquarium passes… soo many added perks that we loved, beautiful home, and wonderful host.

Great stay for our family!

Our 3 generation family had a wonderful stay at this home. Our group of 4 adults and six kids had plenty of room for our needs and we found the kitchen well stocked. Great set up with several nice touches that made the house feel like home. The kids loved the ducks and chickens in the backyard and the fresh eggs awaiting us in the fridge was a lovely welcome gift and were delicious. The owner’s communication was exceptional. The house location worked great for our needs. Central to Monterey and Santa Cruz region. We used the aquarium passes worked well. Would absolutely stay here again when we return to the area on another family trip.

About the host

Hosted by Katie Raquel

Host profile image
Hey, I’m Katie! I’m a painter and homeschooling mom who loves to run around our neighborhood, garden and spend time at our families’ ranches and farms while we rent out our home. Before we joined Airbnb, my husband and I hosted couch surfers from all over the world in whatever little apartment we happened to rent at the time. While we don’t see our guests in person anymore, I still love creating a sense of hospitality in our home.

Why they chose this property

We love that our home is close to highways and an easy walk to grocery stores, yet when you step into the home or backyard it feels like you’re transported to a peaceful oasis. I’m also delighted by the variety of flowers and trees in our neighborhood, and love exploring them through the seasons on morning runs.

What makes this property unique

Our chickens and ducks — with fresh eggs in the fridge — are one of the things our guests enjoy most about the property, along with the lush and private backyard.

I also think it’s fun that I’m a fine art painter, and most of the house is filled with original art inspired by the area.
