Wonderful base in Santa Fe!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Nancy's casita in Santa Fe. Everything was as advertised and I was extremely comfortable. The property is very quiet while being close to everything. I loved the nature all around. Couldn't have asked for more!

Christmas in Santa Fe

Nancy is a wonderful host - available when needed, friendly but never intrusive. The casita we stayed in was lovely, we felt at home immediately. It was extremely well fitted out with a complete kitchen, lovely dining/sun room and comfortable queen bed with nice linens. The bathroom was spacious, warm and plenty of extra sheets and towels were provided. The location is excellent, very quiet, private and secure and the downtown Plaza is about a 30 min walk through lovely neighborhoods and there is a beautiful park about half way there. We hope to return again next year.

Incredibly Accommodating!

I booked this unit for a family that had some damage to their home and they had never used a vacation rental before. Nancy went above and beyond in accommodating the family to make sure they would have a comfortable stay while their home was repaired. Even with extensions on the time, Nancy was so helpful and nice. I really can't thank her enough for assisting in such a stressful and strenuous time!!

Perfect (big) casita for us

Nancy's place is wonderful, much larger and nicer than the photos can show. I was worried about tight proximity of other rentals/owner's house on the same compound, but it is very private and quiet. The living room and bedroom are combined (which wasn't clear from description), but it's a large and comfortable room, and the light-filled dining/sitting/office at rear of casita gives another space for socializing or working. The huge kitchen is adequately equipped with full-sized appliances and plenty of storage. Off the LR/bedroom is a very large bath and dressing area with ample closets. Nancy was super helpful without ever being intrusive, and made our dog feel welcome, too. It was snowing most of our January visit, but the radiant floor heat and thick walls meant the house was always warm and cozy, and she went out of her way to accommodate the parking situation for a couple of Texans unaccustomed to snow! Wish we were still there . . .

Couldn't have been any better!

We stayed in Casa Vieja for the entire month of August with our two small dogs and it was pretty much perfection. The house is a genuine old Santa Fe adobe that the owner keeps immaculately maintained. Casa Vieja is cozy, comfy and tastefully decorated. It is located in a gated compound with three houses on the property, in a quiet neighborhood in the interesting (to us) historic older part of Santa Fe. A great deal of thought and care was put into the interior decoration of the house, which is filled with beautiful furniture, oriental rugs, art, and antiques. The mattress was comfortable, the sheets and towels were high quality. The tile work in the bathroom is especially exquisite. The kitchen is a pleasure to work in and is fully stocked with plates, cutlery, pots & pans. The thick adobe walls keeps the house cool, even when it is hot outside and there are plenty of windows to open for a good cross breeze. The house has a fenced courtyard garden which is a lovely place to sit in and drink coffee in the morning. Everything was spanking clean when we arrived and for a reasonable fee, we had Nancy's housekeeper come in and clean once a week. Apodaca Hill is an interesting neighborhood and you can walk to Canyon Road, The Plaza or Museum Hill from Casa Vieja. I've saved the best for last -- Nancy was the perfect hostess, she was attentive and responsive to our needs, but not obtrusive. We hope to return next year.

betsy

We stayed here for 3 1/2 months this winter and even though El Nino brought lots of snow the casita was always warm and cozy, radiant heated floors and adobe do the trick! The neighborhood is quiet, real Santa Fe, and near enough to the center of town and Museum Hill. The kitchen is open and large, easy for two to share cooking duties. Nice fireplace, fun design. Great washer and dryer, very new. Closet is more than adequate. Nancy attends to any problems/concerns right away, yet she never intrudes on your privacy. Final note, her two dogs are very friendly and fun to have around.

casa vieja: the perfect place to stay in santa fe

casa vieja is located in a safe and quiet neighborhood, convenient to everything the city and environs have to offer (hiking, parks, plaza, museums, canyon road galleries). it is private, clean, quiet, and comfortable (firm bed, warm [in a cold November], hot h2o, washer/dryer, lots of storage), chock full of any/all amenities to make your stay a pleasant one. there is private outdoor sitting/eating space, a fenced yard, and private off-street parking, the decor is a wonderful/beautiful blend of antique and southwest style. And charming with a capital CH. nancy, peter, chi chi, and meka are great hosts and great company. And charming with a capital CH. we stayed for a month, ‘couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more, didn’t want to go, and want to go back. n, p, cc, and m: thanx so much. rose and ruby ps our people liked it too

Too good to be true but it was!!

We chose our casita with concern since we had never used VRBO and this listing seemed too good! Historic eastside, walkable to town, hiking in your backyard, gated private compound, reasonable price. This casita was all that and much, much more. Nancy and Peter (our hosts) were wonderful, and recommended all sorts of things to do in this beautiful city. Both of them went way beyond the usual host activities, and made our stay effortless and fun. The casita is located in a private quiet gated compound on a hill above the city with city and mountain views, hiking through the gate in the fence, and morning roosters and donkey. You should be comfortable with country sounds and dogs--the hosts have two sweet friendly dogs who like to visit. This was a plus for us since we missed our own pets, and the dogs are well-behaved and easy to deal with. This casita is in a compound on 3/4 of an acre, on which there is a second guest casita and the owner's home. Nancy and Peter are always available but respectful of guests' privacy so it's a win/win situation. The casita itself is larger and more elegant than we expected, with a well-equipped full kitchen and separate dining room and windows all around for air and light. The main room is quite large, with easy room for the queen bed (very comfortable and good for backs), lots of attractive antique furniture, and a comfy leather sofa. We enjoyed the free Wi Fi and flat-screen TV. The bathroom is large and well-appointed, there are huge closets, and the private laundry was great to have. The casita is easily walkable to town (1.8 miles) via historic East Alameda if you are moderately fit and have the time. You can walk to Canyon Road galleries very easily, and to the Plaza for nighttime events, concerts, food etc. I started every morning with coffee on our private breezy covered portal (porch) and often ended the day there as well. My husband loved to pick delicious fruit from the apricot, apple and pear trees, and we ate grapes from the vines covering the gazebo, where we sometimes had dinner as we watched the blinking city lights. We loved opening all the windows at night to the breeze and night sounds, and felt very safe and comfortable with both doors and windows open. We couldn't have asked for more. We had an idyllic stay in Santa Fe, and will definitely return to this wonderful casita, hopefully this Christmas.

Can't Say Enough Good Things About Casita Viejo

I had the most wonderful six weeks staying in Santa Fe this summer for grad school. The biggest reason it was so wonderful is because of owners Nancy and Peter's hospitality. They provided a relaxing, picturesque, little-piece-of-paradise for me and only .7 miles to St. John's campus. I ate breakfast every morning on one of the two patios where I was invariably visited by Meka their beautiful and loveable german shephard. I was able to run a route on Upper Canyon Road. The pictures of the casita don't do it justice. The unique doors in the house are gorgeous. I never got tired of looking at them. The casita is spacious. Large closets. It's well appointed with antiques and one-of-a-kind furniture. So homey and comfortable. I read on the couch on front patio every day and even wrote a few chapters out there. The accommodations were top quality and Nancy and Peter went out of their way to make me comfortable and were always ready with Santa Fe sightseeing and restaurant ideas. The compound is enclosed with an electronic gate which made me feel safe and sound. I'm going back to graduate next summer and feel very lucky to be able to stay in the casita again. Can't wait!

Why they chose this property

The natural beauty of Santa Fe, big skies, mountains and incredible weather. This property has the best combination of being away from the traffic and crowds, but close enough for easy access. The hiking trails out the back gate.

What makes this property unique

I enjoy the authentic neighborhood, with the mix of people. My neighbors are descendants of some of the early settlers.
