About our location
San Sebastian is a hidden gem located in the heart of Merida's historical city center. The neighborhood offers an authentic, off the beaten path experience, while still maintaining a close proximity to the city's main tourist attractions. Visitors can explore the area and discover authentic Yucatecan culture, away from the crowded tourist hotspots - all while being a mere 10 minute (1.3 mile) drive from Plaza Grande.
The neighborhood is home to a number of historic buildings, including the beautiful San Sebastian church, which dates back to the 16th century and is only a short walk from the house. The adjoining tree-lined Parque San Sebastian has a playground, a fenced field for baseball and soccer, and a basketball court. It also boasts a food market where you can buy fruit, vegetables and meat, as well as food stalls that are very popular with locals and are quite lively on the weekends.
Parque San Sebastian is known for its fairs, which often feature live music, carnival rides, penny arcades, and venders selling local treats like marquesitas. These fairs often draw huge local crowds however since Casa Alta is several blocks away, the crowds rarely affect the peace and calm of our quiet, residential street.
Street parking is plentiful and Uber rides around the city are inexpensive and easily accessible. If you are interested in visiting sites outside of the city such as Chichen Itza, Progresso, Celestun, etc. we are happy to recommend a private driver that can take you. The main ADO bus station is also a 15 minute walk away and offers transport to more than 13 cities throughout Mexico, such as Cancun, Mexico City, Tulum, and Playa Del Carmen.
