*** THREE IMPORTANT THINGS ***
1) The Wood Shed is connected to another of my listings, The Hill House. It sits atop the Hill House garage and has its own private parking, entrance, deck and hot tub. There are no shared walls or connecting doors, and the garage is locked off for owner storage, but you do have neighbors next door (legally a duplex). Please be respectful!
2) This is a 600 s/f open studio with a bathroom and a king bed. To make it feel spacious, I used extremely low furniture (chairs & bed). If you have bad knees, this will be a bad fit. The bathroom is quite small, but still has a walk in shower.
3) House Rules: Check in at 4pm or later; check out at 10am or earlier. No pets or smoking. Last, the cleaning fee is lower than about 2/3 of other units this size because guests start a load of dishes and towels on checkout. The savings is passed on to you.

After hosting 40k guest nights across 50 properties over 7 years, I wanted to build something special and unforgettable for travelers to Rocky Mountain National Park.
I moved here for these mountains, and I sought to create a space that connected people to them. The Wood Shed is an homage to our local wild lands, and an effort to share my awe.
Here are some of the first reviews:
- "By far the best Airbnb we have stayed at." - Allison
- "This was probably the best AirBnB I’ve ever stayed at." Samantha
- "One of the best AirBnbs I've stayed in. " - Casie
- "I can say without hesitation this was easily among the best AirBnBs we have stayed in." - Cameron
- "This place is FANTASTIC. We even tried changing our travel plans to stay another night." - Rebecca
The walls and ceiling were milled from locally sourced beetle kill lumber, with each single board telling a story of hundreds of years of rainfall, fire and lightning. I made the bench and coffee table from trees felled on my land. I scavenged whiskey bottles from a Colorado distillery and repurposed them into pendant lamps, and put a skylight above the bed so you can watch stars as you fall asleep.
When you shower, I hope you feel like you're actually swimming. The brilliant blue tile is the same color as the glacial runoff found in Lake Haiyaha in the National Park's Chaos Canyon.
To honor our local mountains, I tried hard to maintain a low environmental footprint. The HVAC system is an ultra-efficient heat pump that provides heat and AC. There's a level II charger for your EV, all the lighting is LED, the wood stove releases virtually no smoke, and even the toilet is one of the most efficient made. Solar will come soon!
There's a 50" TV and a Bluetooth sound bar, but I hope you spend your time here connecting with whoever you came with. Cook an epic meal in the fully stocked kitchen and enjoy the record collection.
Some of my favorite LPs await: Nirvana's Unplugged, Leo Kottke's 6 & 12 String Guitar; Bob Marley's Legend, Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, Harvest Moon by Neil Young, and (can I kick it?) Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest.
It's way fun to listen to a these gems while the wood stove roars, preferably after a soak in the private hot tub on the deck.

The Wood Shed is along Highway 66 only a few short minutes from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. It's a quiet area that sees little traffic, and the park boundary is within a quarter of a mile. This means elk, coyotes, foxes, bears, raccoons, hummingbirds, and mule deer frequently pass by.
The National Park is just out the backdoor and the entrance station is reachable without having to brave downtown traffic. You can even hike into the park on foot. If you want to go downtown and don't want to deal with parking, the town offers a free shuttle service during the summer months with a stop about 10 minutes away by foot! That's a super easy way for the entire family to head out to dinner or enjoy local farmers markets and festivals.
NO SMOKING, NO FIRES
My home was about a quarter mile away from one of the largest forest fires in Colorado history a few years ago, so we are a strict no-smoking property. No smoking inside, outside, and no outdoor fire pits (now illegal in Estes Park's vacation homes). Charcoal BBQs are banned.
ROAD CONDITIONS
Estes has a great plow team and our driveway will also be plowed during storms, but if there's a huge blizzard, they may not be plowed exactly when you need them to be. We cannot assist if you get stuck and we always recommend that people rent AWD or 4WD when visiting us from October to May. We are at 8,000 feet and this can be a snowy area!
GUEST COUNT
Our permit is limited to two people max.
BEARS
Do NOT leave food in your car! Bears frequent this area often and can break in!
- You are renting half a duplex; be mindful of noise
- No loud noises or speakers in the hot tub
- Outdoor wood burning fire pits are illegal
- No pets, no smoking
- 1 car max
- 4pm or later check in, 10am or earlier check out
- Start towels in washer at checkout & wash dishes
- Bring your own wood for the wood stove (available nearby at the Country Supermarket)
