About this property

Romantic Villa

“Pine Cone Drive” is a beautifully cozy and comfortable West Indies style home located in quiet Skytop, Fish Bay St John. The six very large concrete Pine Cones that sit on the right side of the driveway inspired the house name. The house offers a very airy & open view to our majestic mountains and lowly valley. It also provides an average ocean view on the west side. One can sit in the covered deck and just enjoy the boats pass by. Occasionally, even a cruise ship can be seen. The house has a full kitchen, living and indoor dining area, open dining at the covered deck and full laundry. For the BBQ Master enthusiast, take command of the BBQ coop at the front yard.
There are two air conditioned bedrooms; each has its own bathroom. The master bedroom is very airy. It has several windows and a door that allows the guest to step directly into the covered deck and enjoy the natural environment. The bathroom is wonderful with sliding glass shower doors that sits on nicely crafted island style stonework. Guests have the choice of lining their outfits in either an armoire or a built in closet. The second bedroom is smaller but just as cozy, with its own sliding glass shower doors and island stonework. Each bedroom also has a fan and individual lamps for reading.
Kitchen utensils and appliances are provided. Bedroom linen, shower and beach towels are provided. Small coolers and beach chairs are provided. Guests may soak away all their worries as they relax in the beautiful 6 person hot tub; or just sun bathe on the lounge chairs at the hot tub deck as they sip a cold ice tea. You will be visited by several birds as you enjoy the view of the majestic mountain range.

Fish Bay is a very quiet neighborhood that has an active association, which enforces its rules and regulations. Peace of mind and relaxation is a trademark of this neighborhood.

Women’s snorkeling trip.

Enjoyed our stay on St. John’s and at this property. It was a very comfortable property to stay at and liked the quietness of the Fish Bay Area. Always feel safe in this area too. We liked the fact there were beach chairs and beach towels to bring to the beach with us.

Lovely island home

The home was beautiful and roomy, clean and cozy. The hot tub was amazing. The host was very nice. The views are spectacular. Very relaxing. Bring your own spices. Cookware and food service items are dated. The place was awesome and I would stay here again. Very nice.

Wonderful getaway house

My finacee and I loved our stay here. Everything you need in the kitchen is included. The bathroom has a blow dryer and a curling iron. There are even beach toys and beach chairs on the patio outside. All you need to bring is yourself and your clothes. The owner was sooo helpful and kind. If you're considering this place, do not hesitate. It's worth it.

Pine Cove Villa

Catherine was gracious and even though our flight and ferry ride over were delayed, she helped us with our jeep rental and then led us to the villa. It was very difficult to get to this place on the other side of the island and on top of a hill. We enjoyed the hot tub and the lovely covered deck overlooking the valley and the bay. The villa was disappointing… very old and dark decor with old furnishings. We appreciated the AC in the bedrooms and the water dispenser. She wanted to lock us out of the second bedroom because there were just two of us but we insisted we had booked two bedrooms for a reason!

Great experience and stay

The views were amazing and the house was very comfortable. We appreciated the owner's quick communication, water jug, and setting up/decorating a Christmas tree for the holidays. All the comforts of home in a tropical paradise. Thank you!

We could not have asked for a better place to stay for our honeymoon. The house was exceptionally clean and had great amenities. The grill was so clean we think we may have been the first people to use it! The views were amazing and we enjoyed breakfast every morning on the beautiful porch. The house is in a very peaceful and private location. The owners were wonderful to work with and we would recommend this house whole-heartedly to our family and friends. We look forward to returning for another stay!

pine cone

We spent 2 weeks at Pine Cone. We have been annual visitors to St John for 20 years and always rent houses for our stays. The house was clean and well-maintained. The owner was friendly and helpful. We had a minor maintenance issue that needed to be dealt with and it was handled promptly.

2nd Honeymoon

We celebrated our 25th anniversary at Pine Cone Drive and couldn't have chosen a better place. We loved the deck for breakfasts and dinners, and the hot tub for evening relaxation. The house and setting were everything we expected; perfectly described in numerous past reviews and as depicted in the description and photographs. Other bonuses were a water cooler in the kitchen and some cool pillowed beach mats Catherine has stowed away which really came in handy for rocky beaches. Thank you Catherine for your hospitality!

A true gem in St. John

My husband and I have been visiting St. John annually (sometimes twice a year) for the past decade. We have stayed in many villas all over the island. Pine Cone is among the top 2 best villas we have EVERY stayed in. The location of Fish Bay is wonderfully private and quiet with just a short (and beautiful) drive into Cruz Bay. The villa itself is one of the cleanest and most well kept I have ever seen. Many of the furnishings and appliances are new and you have all the amenities of home. The view is absolutely serene and beautiful of the water and the rolling hills. We will absolutely be return visitors!

The perfect place to get away from it all

We had a fabulous time at PCD! The property is beautifully located in a very quite part of the Fish Bay. The house is very clean and well equipped. We spend most of our time on a very large, private deck that offers amazing views. The owners, Catherine and Leo, are super nice and are easily available when needed. We rented a standard car (not SUV or AWD) and were able to visit most of the beaches (the roads are very steep and get very slippery when wet though and had to use lower gear a lot). Those looking for a super relaxing getaway... look no further! Will definitely recommend it to all our friends and family!

Very nice and practical villa

We visited St John more than a dozen times, we stayed at numerous villas. Pine Cone Drive villa is located in Fish Bay, so it's extra ~ 7 minutes drive from Chocolate Hole, but you will save abot $700 per week for a similar villa. It is nicely equipped (everything is clean, I never saw so many rugs in any other St John's villa), in a breezy location (no need for AC), has an ocean view from the deck. Location is safe. Plenty of parking space. If you are not looking for a granit counter-tops, 12 ft ceilings, grand entrance, but just a nice, clean an secluded place to stay in Fish Bay: this is the place.

Another great stay!

This was our second stay (this time with our 6 month old son ;)) at PCD and again we were not disappointed! Had an amazing time! The house was super clean and had everything we needed. Catherine and her family are extremely accommodating and friendly. Catherine personally took care of our package that we had send to St John prior to our arrival. Her son met us at the barge, even though we were very delayed, and made sure we made it safe to the villa! Highly recommended! Thank you Catherine! We'll be back :)

Pine Cone Lane Cottage

Our gracious host Catherine Stephen had a driver meet us at the ferry on St John to take us to the office, where we signed in and got our rental jeep. After we bought groceries, she led us to the cottage, where we settled into the charming, picturesque little house high on a hill overlooking Fish Bay. This was the first of six wonderful days on St John, where we were free to explore the island, snorkel, scuba, and swim at the many beautiful beaches: It was just what we needed as a respite from our normal frosty existence in northern Michigan. Each day began with a leisurely breakfast and coffee on the covered deck overlooking the bay, before heading out and down the winding roads to our beach du jour. Perfect!

Pine Cone on Skytop was a wonderful way to experience St John's

The home was lovely and very comfortable. We ate our breakfasts and most of our dinners at the house on the deck. The view of Fish Bay from the deck is unbelievable. If there wasn't so much else that we wanted to do on St John, I could've sat on the deck all day. In the evenings we enjoyed watching the stars and listening to the night sounds. We also used the hot tub a few times which was very nice. Catherine is a great host. We picked up a rental car in Cruz Bay and she met us down the block from the rental store (a few steps away) and led us to the house. Catherine is very responsive to any questions we had.

Loved It!!!

The Pine Cone Cottage was great. Clean and comfortable. Modern with a cabin feel. Great place to relax after days of sun and activities. Large deck with an ocean view. WIFI, cable, TV's, books, stereo, washer/dryer and fully equipped kitchen. Air conditioned bedrooms. Catherine was kind and professional. She had great suggestions for things to do and knowledgeable about St. John's history. Also rented a Jeep from her and her husband. Newer model in good condition, and gave us no trouble at all. Thank you Catherine and Leo.

Great house in the hills.

Very nice people to rent from. The house seems to only be used for rentals. Great view from the back porch. Having your morning coffee here, really puts you in a great place to start your day. Coming back and watching the sun go down over the hills will make your day complete. Plenty of space in the house. They have coolers and beach towels, toys, snorkel gear, chairs and more to use during your stay. I recommend renting a jeep for this house. It will be cheaper than trying to find taxis. It is far from town and built on a large hill. Don't turn the hot tub up past 98. I don't think the thermostat is right on it. I would book this place again and again. Enjoy...

Great place!

I will add to this plethora of reviews by trying to mention things that others haven't... The pictures did not do this place justice. In the pictures it looks like an old cottage with grandma's decor. When we got there we felt it was more like an awesome rustic cabin. Beautiful woodwork and spacious open layout. Very new and fresh feel. If you are bringing small children, they have a laundry tub and it's perfect for washing up sandy little ones. Because every day they come home with sand on them everywhere! If you haven't been to St John I would say the location is mediocre. Not SUPER close to town or the beaches, but not very far either. If you are not used to driving on mountainous hills, you will have to to get up the driveway here, but that's common for a LOT of homes. This home was the lowest price I found for the most square footage. LOVED IT!

Wonderful Stay!

My two daughters and I stayed at Pine Cone Villa last week and had a wonderful time! The home is nicely decorated and super clean. My daughter has been to St. John in the past and had trouble with ants where she stayed, and told me to expect that, but we didn't see any! We loved eating breakfast on the back deck and enjoyed the hot tub in the evening. The kitchen had everything we needed. We used the beach chairs and beach towels every day at the beach. The AC felt great in the bedrooms at night, really cooled the rooms down fast. One night we had trouble with the water pressure being low, and the maintenance man came out to fix it, even though it was 9 pm. If I ever had a question to ask Catherine, she always got back with me that day with an answer. The DVD player was really nice with surround sound, so we rented a couple movies from the rental place by Starfish Market. It was great to watch Pride and Prejudice with the night breeze blowing in the windows. Thanks Catherine for a great stay!

Cozy, clean and a great view

This home was very clean and cozy. The view from the huge rear porch is amazing. It has a mountain view and a view of the blue water. The jacuzzi was wonderful and set in a private area of the home. The owners couldn't have been nicer and helpful. They gave you information and then left you alone to enjoy. They called us 2xs to check in to see if we needed anything. I would go back there in a heart beat. We may be going back there in February if possible. We rented a Jeep so the location was no problem for us. We have been to St. Johns 2xs and we recommend Haulover Bay....on the LEFT side....when you get to the beach snorkel to the left too. Brown Bay was a bit of a haul to get to but was well worth it....again snorkel to the left. These 2 areas have huge coral and tons of life and it is shallow water right off the beach but bring a chair, there isn't much sand. Anyway, the house was great and WELL worth what we paid. I would recommend the home and owners to anyone who wants to visit St. John

Disappointing Hosts and Property

I would classify this as an extremely budget lodging with hosts that cannot afford to keep it up. There were some broken window panes and screens that had fallen out. There was no door on the master bathroom, so no privacy. The owners locked the other bedroom and bathroom since there were only 2 people in the lodging. There were some security cameras on the outside of the house that faced into the indoor living spaces. The promised beach and snorkel gear was either falling apart and unusable or covered in sand and dirt with debris on the mouthpieces from previous guests. Only the bedroom is climate controlled, so the rest of the house was extremely hot even in February. The house was also filled with bugs because of the broken window pane and failing window screens. Several of the dishes were cracked or broken, and the kitchen supplies were old or lacking. Cooking was extremely difficult and the lack of a dishwasher and cleaning supplies made any kitchen work very laborious. The hosts will charge you if you leave any dirty dishes behind or don't take out the trash even though they don't provide anywhere to dispose of it. I would avoid unless it's your only option and you plan to eat out most meals.

Pine Cone Villa

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Pine Cone Villa. This is our third time staying in St. John and our favorite house so far. The house is older and more rustic than others we’ve rented and it has a great summer cottage type vibe. The location is spectacular, high up in the hills of the national park but still close enough to Cruz Bay to make grocery runs and beach trips easily. The Siemen (hiking) Trail trailhead is a few hundred yards from the house and leads to the ruins of a sugar plantation. It’s possible to connect to the Reef Bay Trail if you are really ambitious. We were unable to rent a Jeep but the Toyota RAV4 had no problem tackling the steep, winding roads on the island. After a day of snorkeling or hiking we really enjoyed the hot tub.
