Swan Lake House - 100 Feet of Waterfront-2bd 2bath
Spectacular Location. 10 miles from the town of Bigfork and 2 miles from the village of Swan Lake. Large aluminum dock suitable for docking ski boat/jet ski, or just sitting on the side and soaking your legs in the water. The house was remodeled in 2014 with new carpeting and upgraded fixtures. It's on 3/4 of an acre, so the neighbors are not right on top of us and most of the property has been left in it's natural, heavy wooded state

Such a wonderful property! Even in the height of summer it was still so quiet and peaceful on the lake. Simply beautiful. A few things to note about the property…as mentioned in the listing, to get to the house from the parking area are several stairs and a ramp of stones. It is quite steep, but definitely manageable with smaller luggage (large bag was difficult). Also the two bathrooms are on the first floor but both rooms are on second floor. These are noted in the pictures and description but bear pointing out. Huge windows and fans/heaters inside, but for the summer, definitely spent most of the time outside!
This house is right on the water, with a dock available for use. The water is fairly shallow for the first 25 ft or so, then drops off, but my little kids loved it. So amazing!! I would love to come back again!
The property is in a beautiful location. The lake was perfect. The dock was great for lying in the sun, swimming or just sitting and relaxing in the evening. Early in the morning, the deck was nice to sit and have coffee while listening to the water lap onto shore.
Had an outstanding time staying on Swan Lake in this Lakehouse. The house was very clean, in close proximity to Glacier National Park, but also remote enough to enjoy the quiet and beauty of the Montana wilderness. The dock was great for going out on the water and maybe my favorite part was watching sunsets from the back porch.
Paul was an excellent communicator and kept me up to date about everything related to the house and was always responsive to my texts and emails. He even was kind enough to send me some items back I left in the cabin via mail.
Would definitely recommend and Can’t wait for my next stay!
A pleasant surprise to find this little gem in the woods. A great fit for two couples and Paul had the place stocked with many needed items. A bit of a hike from the car to the house yet worth the steps. Paul is a great and generous communicator. I would be glad to make another trip to this property in the future. Great price too!
Thanks Paul!
We were very happy with our stay at the cabin. It had everything needed for a very comfortable stay. The dock out back was great for relaxing. The distance to Bigfork was perfect, just close enough in order to run to town for dinner or groceries, but far enough out that we felt secluded. The owner and the property manager were very nice to work with and we hope to be able book this again.
We had a great time here. 5 people is a perfect fit for the cabin. The dock is perfect to hang out on and watch the kids do all sorts of stuff. The water is cold but it was perfect weather when we went and the water was super clear. Our kids loved to snorkel, canoe and enjoyed just exploring. We took a few day trips to glacier national park and hiked up to Avalanche Lake. We also hiked Holland Falls Trail in flathead state park and got to see a bear cub by the lake while taking a break to do some fishing. The cabin was affordable and had everything we needed. For a smaller cabin it has 2 bathrooms with showers and was great not fighting for a spot in line. The only thing I would change is having some extra padding for the pullout couch. Thanks for letting us enjoy your cabin Paul. It was a great experience for all of us. Cheers, The Schneiders from New Prague , MN

Return visitors.
We have stayed at this cabin every summer for the past six years. Two years ago our son married his wife on Swan Lake because the place has meant so much to them. We bring our kids and grandkids and our boat. There is plenty of room in the cabin and room for tents. Large dock for sunbathing and fishing. Little kids can wade and swim. A piece of heaven on earth.

Montana adventure
I have stayed at the house for the last 2 summers, bringing my 3 grandsons (ages 6 to 11) out from the East Coast and meeting up with my brother in Missoula. The trips have opened up a whole new world to the boys. It’s a thrill to see their enthusiasm for the outdoors and to have them talk all through the next year about the wild turkeys and the bald eagle they saw.
The house is a good fit for our needs. It’s a summer place, built 20 or 30 years ago with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, plus a fold out couch in the living room. In terms of amenities, it has all the usual kitchen facilities plus TV and high speed internet. The house is not that fancy and on a secluded lake but it’s a nice touch that they provide high end sheets and towels. We spent a lot of time on the large dock just a few steps down from the house. The boys never seem to get tired of running off the end of it and jumping in the lake. The dock is aluminum and can accommodate a good size ski boat but since we don’t have one, we just go out in the canoe that is left there for renters.
There are larger, newer houses on either side of this one but they are farther back from the lake with quite a few trees in between, so we felt like we had some privacy when we cooked on the BBQ and ate outdoors on the picnic tables.
Hope we can go again next summer but as overscheduled as my grandsons seem to be, I don’t know.

Relaxing by beautiful Swan Lake
We rented this house to get away from the desert heat of New Mexico. We had several email exchanges with the owner Paul. He has to be the most laid-back VRBO owner I have ever known. A reasonable down payment and security deposit, no contracts, no cleaning fee, he sent us the key through the mail that we returned when we got home. I admit, I was a little nervous with the email “hand-shake” to seal the deal; however, as I reflect on our experience I am sorry that my first thought is to not just trust my fellow human beings – an unfortunate sign of our times. Paul limits rentals to a 7-day minimum and he strongly prefers Saturday to Saturday – we altered our schedule a little to meet this requirement and we were not disappointed.
The house is definitely a cabin not a luxury home (interestingly, the neighboring houses are all HUGE $1M+ properties). If you have difficulty walking/getting around you should look elsewhere. There is a nice grassy parking lot above the house. You will need to walk DOWN to the house – of course the stairs seem much steeper on the walk back UP. The bedrooms are both upstairs and the bathrooms are both downstairs only a problem for the sleepy late night trips that seem to be more common each year (sigh…). The house has a full kitchen with no dishwasher. Although we ate at several good restaurants within 20 miles, we primarily used the gas grill that is stored in a shed near the house to cook dinner. The house has large windows and a sliding glass door that look onto the lake. The deck (on which we drank several bottles of wine) is only 10’ from the water. There is a private boat dock extending into the lake from which we swam, launched the canoe (part of the rental), watched the sunrise and set.
We took daytrips to Glacier National Park (45 min), Flathead Lake (20 min), went hiking in Jewel Basin (20 min), wildlife watching from numerous locations. Our main goal was to relax, unwind, and enjoy Montana – the Swan Lake house gave us a very affordable location to do accomplish our task.
This property was perfect for our needs; however, if you are looking for luxury accommodations try somewhere else.
About the host
Hosted by Paul
We are a family of 4 in Seattle with relatives all over the country who enjoy meeting together at Swan Lake. This relaxing setting has made for many happy family memories over the years, especially when everyone gathers around the large picnic table in the side yard for a BBQ dinner. Our kids are older now but they seem to enjoy the place as much now as when they were in preschool.
Why they chose this property
Spectacular Location. We always wanted to have a lake house where all the extended family can gather. This has worked very well for us over the years. In addition to being in a quiet location right on the lake, it's close to restaurants, golf, and art galleries in Bigfork as well as being a good base of operations for trips into Glacier Park. The lake is cool and crystal clear
What makes this property unique
From this house people have the ability to be really active and enjoy all the great outdoor activities that northwest Montana has to offer or to just be lazy and sit on the deck taking in the view.
