We wanted a place within walking distance of town and this fit perfectly. Six of us were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. The place was very clean and prepared for us on arrival. I'll probably book the same next year
4 friends celebrating an upcoming birthday and friendship. Home was exactly as described and exactly what we hoped. So close to a vibrant downtown with great shops and delicious restaurants.
This was a nice stay for our family. Clean and safe with nice modern amenities. Staunton is full
of great shops, culinary experiences and the Black Friar. Oh, and dragons!
This was a great little place for the weekend. It is close to downtown and one can hear all the trains as they roll through, part of the charm of Staunton. The walking route to town was closed during our stay but that was no big deal. Its a two minute drive down the hill to anything one would like to experience. Lovely time!
This house is great! It’s clean and newly remodeled. It actually can sleep more than 8 since there are 4 bedrooms and a sleeper sofa. The Sears bridge makes it easy to get to downtown where one can enjoy all of the terrific restaurants and other downtown establishments! Definitely would stay here again.
Lovely old house, nicely renovated and very convenient walk to town. We'd never been to Staunton before and really enjoyed the Shakespeare theater, the restaurants, and nearby hikes. Our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter appreciated the children's books and toys used as decorations in some of the bedrooms. The house was spotless.
I booked The Red House to stay in for my daughter's wedding. Friends and family from 3 different states were able to share this house. Host was responsive to messages and check in was super easy.
Beware if you have elderly people stay with you - bedrooms and 1 bathroom are either up steep stairs or down steep stairs. Not a deal breaker, but definitely something to be aware of.
House was clean and plenty of room for all 8 of us. Neighborhood is old and quiet! Love seeing the houses being given new life!
This house is very close to downtown Staunton and I walked there every morning and afternoon with my dog. The property manager is incredibly responsive and check-in was easy with a code to the lockbox provided a few days in advance. The kitchen is well stocked and my family and I cooked breakfast and dinner most days. The house is nicely renovated and easily accommodated my family of 4 adults for 7 days without us feeling cramped.
The one thing to note is that two of the bedrooms are in the basement and the other two are on the second floor. This wasn't an issue for my family since my party only included adults, but may be a consideration for parents with small children.
We had a great visit to this property. The kitchen is huge and very well-appointed with brand-new appliances. It opens onto a cozy living room so it was a great place for all of us to hang out. The beds are comfortable and rooms are spacious. Just be aware that 2 bedrooms are upstairs and 2 are in the basement, so there is a little bit of space between them if you're traveling with kids and want everyone to be close together. The backyard was massive and would be great if you had kids who wanted to run around and play.
Location is great - very close to downtown, restaurants, shopping, etc. but still located in a quiet neighborhood. Off-street parking was a plus as well!
Overall, great place to stay in Staunton!
The description on-line is fairly accurate. The house is very clean; beds are comfortable. Nice appliances. Eating utensils, cooking equipment all provided. What should you be aware of? If you are older, know that there are stairs to contend with, and the narrow/no railing flight to the lower level bedrooms is a bit scary. We found that the heat in those lower rooms was either all-on or all-off; there seemed to be no in-between. That five-minute walk to downtown seems very, very optimistic to us. The railroad lines at the back of the property preclude a direct route as there's a considerable dogleg around them. Plus, most of that trip back to the house will be uphill, so save some energy if you try it. You will be hearing those trains at night; it was not a problem for us, but light sleepers will want to know this. The neighborhood itself is an older residential area, not bad except for the derelict house down the street that could be a horror movie setting. There are some things missing in the house that would have been appreciated. Tops on the list are dressers. Yep, there are closets for hanging and shelves above, but if you are on the short side, your undies will stay in your suitcase. Be aware that to cook, you would need to buy everything: condiments, cooking oil, creamer, etc, etc. Bottom line; a good place to sleep, clean and basic with nice Home Goods decor.
