About this property
NEW! Peaceful Artist’s Retreat, Spa/Sauna
Nestled on 3 private acres of old-growth forest, this beautiful artist's retreat is a convenient 15 minute drive from both downtown Chapel Hill and downtown Hillsborough, and 30 minutes from RDU.
Hand built by the previous owner only 3 years ago, this home’s 20-foot cathedral ceilings, chef’s kitchen, 1700 sqft deck and beautiful forest makes it the perfect home away from home.
Relax, reset and revive yourself in the authentic Finnish barrel sauna, take a dip in the hot tub looking out into the woods, then put on a robe and lay back on the wraparound couch or up on the cedar loft with a wall to wall view of the property. Play one of the pianos in the house, or just sit, drink, chat and relax.
During the day, take a hike on the half mile trail surrounding the property (and hope to pet some deer!), grab ice cream at the famous Maple View Farm ice cream shop only 2 minutes down the road, or adventure in the beautiful Saxapahaw Island Park 10 minutes away.
If you are a family and need some extra sleeping space there is a single couch in the master and a generous wraparound couch in the living room, which we can provide blankets and extra pillows for.
We have a brand new Tiny House 100 feet from the main house, which has two lofts, one with a queen bed and one with a twin . It has power, water, a full bathroom, HVAC, and a kitchenette with fridge, hot plate, air fryer, toaster oven, and microwave. It does not currently have wifi. As it doesn’t have wifi it is only available to rent with the main house to be used primarily as additional sleeping space.
Detailed amenities:
The Main House:
- AC, Wifi, fans in the rooms in the house
- Master bedroom/loft has a queen bed, couch, and a his/hers bathroom with a shower. **Loft requires climbing up a ladder to access, not handicap accessible.
- Guest bedroom has a full bed, lots of books, a smart TV with Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.
- Open concept living room has wrap around seating, a 55” QLED TV, a grand piano, and a dining table that seats four.
- Chef’s kitchen has all the features you will need to cook a feast. Large oven, 4 burner stove, microwave, air fryer, and a large prep space on handmade wooden countertops built with wood sourced from the property.
- Expansive deck has seating for 8 at the main gazebo (also built from trees on the property!), with an outdoor sink and a grill for meals. Also on the deck is the Finnish barrel sauna, and an inflatable hot tub.
- A half-mile trail winds through the magical forest around the house.
- **Unfortunately the hot tub can be a bit finicky. Please don’t book the listing purely based on the fact that it is there, as it can occasionally shut down and take a day to heat back up to normal temperature. We will try our absolute best to have it ready for you, and it works most of the time - but if it shuts down during the previous guest’s stay it might not be hot when you get there.
The Tiny House:
- Two lofts, one with a queen bed and one with a twin.
- Small living room space with a couch and TV (no wifi, but available to plug in devices via HDMI)
- Kitchenette with sink, small fridge, microwave, hot plate, toaster oven, air fryer, silverware and dishes.
- Full bathroom
Base price is for 7 people - for each additional person there will be a $25 fee. By booking with over 7 people you are agreeing that you understand someone will have to sleep on a couch!

About the host
Hosted by Justin Phillips

I am an LA/NC-based music producer, poet, and author. Whenever I'm writing an album, I rent a beautiful house in another country like Iceland or New Zealand. I look for something with a scandinavian style - giant ceilings, lots of wood, beautiful views, books, and hopefully some sort of hot tub or sauna.
Now that I'm settling down a bit more, I decided to start creating my own album-worthy houses, combining my love for music, reading and unique architecture. Hyperion Creek is the first one, and I've been working on it for about four months now getting it ready. I've discovered that I have a real passion for giving guests the ultimate experience and going above and beyond to make their stays amazing.

Why they chose this property
This is one of the most prime spots in this area, in my opinion. It is only 15 minutes from town, yet feels completely secluded and quiet. The entire drive here is absolutely gorgeous too, you don't have to get on any highways to get into the city.
What makes this property unique
This area doesn't have a lot of houses with big ceilings and unique architecture - houses that feel like luxurious retreats. I spent three months searching for a house that would inspire me, and I finally found it.
So much art has been made in this space and I think you can feel it when you stay there!
