Spring Break Trip

The location of the cabin is great. Close to everything - easy drive to all attractions. The reason for the low scoring, the house was very dusty, and as listed - not a fully stocked kitchen. There was only one bowl for a family of 4 (do yourself a favor and bring paper plates/bowls), there were no dish towels, or bathroom hand towels, and the oven didn’t work properly (we looked up the error code and the temp sensor was off). The remote to the tv seemed like it may have been the wrong one, as it did not work. Some scuzzyness between couch cushions also. The drive to the cabin is VERY STEEP and one way, so be aware of that. Overall, our stay was great as we only slept & ate at the cabin and were out most of the day. The view of mammoth arch is amazing and literally RIGHT in the backyard. My kids LOVED that part. Just needs a few simple tweeks in my opinion to give a 5 star rating.

Bare minimum lodging in a beautiful location

The good:Unbelievable location. There's a beautiful arch right next to the property that is a simple walk to explore, and easily within sight. The bad:A lot. The cabin is drafty, especially in the kitchen where you can actually see daylight underneath the sink. The beds are incredibly uncomfortable, leading me to sleep on the couch both nights, where I discovered that the blankets for the couches were thin and not big enough for a grown person. The kitchen was also sparse; no salt/pepper, 3 mugs, 4 plates, 1 bowl, 1 roll of cheap paper towels, and an odd assortment of cooking utensils. The oven displayed an error code (F30) when we tried to use it.l, which led to us having to completely abandon a pre-made casserole for one of the dinners. The hot tub would be a positive and we did have a nice night in it, but when we tried to use it the next morning we felt a slight electric current in the water and decided the risk wasn't worth it. The towels for the bathroom are also probably the bare minimum in size and thickness before they would be called hand towels. Bring extra TP, only 3 budget rolls for 2 nights.Make sure you are very confident in your car. It is a very steep climb over dirt roads to get up to this cabin. All in all we had a great trip, but it was in spite of the bare minimum amenities, and a testament to the beauty of red river gorge and the friends we shared it with. I would not return here, nor would I consider any other cabin from this company.

Just what we wanted!

Mammoth Arch cabin is a gem in the forest. Yes, the drive to the cabin works best with all wheel drive, my MKZ made it well! The fully equipped kitchen allowed to cook a wonderful dinner. Later on we enjoyed smores by the fire pit. Comfortable beds and sheeting. Hot tub to South sore hiking muscles! Location is near everything. We will be back next year!

Great cabin

Overall pretty great cabin. A few mouse droppings and some bees in the trash can that were pretty aggressive. But over all enjoyed the stay. Clean. Cool. And relaxing stay. Would recommend.

Nice cabin but overwhelming sewage smell inside

Older but pleasant cabin, next to nice natural arches and close to town and outdoor activities. However, the septic system appears to be defective and there is an overwhelming stench of sewage/spoiled milk in the kitchen & bathroom and to some extent the rest of the cabin. It was so strong my fiance felt physically sick from it. While the host was responsive to our complaint, the housekeeper came out and applied strong bleach solution to the kitchen floor that only provided minimal relief from the odor. Apparently, they were also aware in advance of the smell problem but did not notify us, which is unacceptable especially since there is no refund available for renting a cabin that is minimally livable. BEWARE if you are renting this facility. By the way, the giant cockroach-like bugs apparently are native to the area, though one scared my fiance when it climbed up on the couch next to her our first evening in the cabin.

Dirty

Overall, it is an a bit of a worn cabin in a small community of cabins. Roads are a bit rough but doable with an SUV but would be nervous in muddy or freezing weather. The cabins are in fairly close proximity to each other and the terrain causes the sound to carry. Sitting on the porch you can easily hear conversations at neighboring cabins. Unfortunately, the cabin was dirty and smelly when we arrived. Furniture and area rug were very dirty. The table and countertop had something sticky all over. The toilet was clearly not cleaned at all. The whole place was just dusty and dirty, so much so that we did not feel comfortable staying, but we were 7 hrs from home. We contacted the managers and they were very responsive and offered a housekeeper but this was beyond what a housekeeper could do in a few hours. They apologized and said that they would normally offer another cabin but they did not have one available. We ended up cleaning the place to get us by for the night. We slept in the main bedroom which is on the first floor with a very noisy air conditioner on the other side of the wall. When the AC turned on, it sounded like a clothes dryer full of rocks. We left early the next morning planning to forfeit the rest of our stay. The manager offered to reimburse us for the unused night but as of this writing, we have not been given a refund. This was our third cabin rented on our trip through Kentucky- all at about the same price point. The others were much more pleasant.

Mammouth Arch Getaway

First, the pros - we really enjoyed being able to take the dog with us. The proximity to climbing and hiking trails was excellent. We loved having the arches in the back yard to climb on and explore. The large porch and hot tub were peaceful resting places. Now, the cons - the road condition was a bit rough with large ruts and holes. The cabin was a bit small with the large stairway taking up almost the entire dining room space. Lighting was dim and difficult to enjoy games. The furniture was adequate, but not really that comfortable. And lastly, there was a lack of basic amenities (no wi-fi, no kitchen basics like oil, or salt and pepper (a set was there, but it was empty- we bought another set and left it). There were not enough bathing towels, no paper towels, only one kitchen garbage bag, and not enough toilet paper)

Charming Cabin in Perfect Location

This place is awesome! Fantastic location right in the middle of Red River Gorge very close to all trails and dining. The view from the cabin is beautiful and we especially loved the large rock arch. This is a perfect hideaway with great amenities. We will definitely stay here again for our next trip to Red River Gorge!

Great stay in Red River Gorge

We loved our stay in this cabin. The private arches were great, and the hot tub was excellent. The driveway was steep, but my Prius had no issues getting to the top. Overall the perfect place to stay for the weekend.

Snowy weekend getaway

Cabin was very clean and cozy. Cabin was stocked with everything we needed except for a lighter or matches for the grill. A quick trip to the local store…problem solved. Hiking on the property was excellent. The cell tower trail has many side trails to follow and explore just be careful not to misplace yourself. The hot tub was a rewarding end to a long day! The host is quick to respond to any questions. Warning! Watch the weather forecast. This cabin is on top of a mountain. The road up is extremely steep. The driveway to the cabin is straight up. Easily doable in good weather but impossible if snow or ice. Don’t try it! Three vehicles tried it and ended up paying the price for doing so. No guardrails to stop you from going over cliffs! We parked at the bottom and walked in and out, even with 4 wheel drive.

Great Stay

We had a great stay at Mammoth Arch Cabin during the Thanksgiving holiday. The cabin was very clean and accurately depicted on the photos. It's on the small side, but was perfect for the three of us and it was great to be able to bring the dogs without added pet fees. You will need to bring your own wifi to use the tv, either using your phone's hotspot or another device. Also, note that shampoo, shower soap and blowdryer are not provided, so you will want to bring your own. The hot tub was nice and relaxing. We grilled out on the charcoal grill and enjoyed a fire one night. You will need to supply charcoal and firewood, which you can find all around RRG. The location is great with 3 smaller hikes within walking distance of the cabin, which is ideal if you want to avoid crowds or just get in a small hike.
