Absolute Paradise

We stayed here with 6 people (group of 3 moms and 3 daughters) for our daughters’ senior spring break trip. We were looking for something that wasn’t going to be touristy, but that was every bit a paradise. This was exactly what we were looking for! Know that when you arrive, this is a quiet island that may not hold as many amenities as you may be used to….but it is so worth it. It is safe, quiet, and serene. I do have to say that Harrison, the caretaker, was unanimously the favorite part of the girls’ trip. The moms strongly agree!! He is an amazing, kind, and charismatic human that made our trip incredibly special. Stephanie has put together an informative packet that we found very helpful, but we did have one suggestion that we would recommend. When leaving the airport, there is a grocery store that you can reach by making a right. It is called Alvernia food store, and the atmosphere was friendly, and they had a much larger selection if you intend to cook at house. Within our group, we had some people that liked to explore, and some that liked to stay at the house. The house was amazing enough that you never have to leave if you don’t wish to. She also warns about the no seeums, and if there is not a breeze, you need to make sure that you are wearing a bug spray with deet. They are pretty brutal. If there is a breeze, you will be fine. We also highly recommend having Harrison cook for you as it was very convenient, especially on our first night. 100% recommend!!

Spectacular home with a million dollar view.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at point house. Beautiful home with a chefs kitchen. Comfortable and huge master suites with breathtaking views of the Caribbean. Tastefully decorated with high end furnishings. The rental manager Reynold was a great help. He took care of all our needs and supplied delicious fish and lobster for our cooking. The pool was out of commission during our stay, as they are in the process of installing a new one. Would highly recommend this house if you want to get away from it all. Great family compound.

Best View on the Island, Great Snorkeling!

Very spacious, elegant, and comfortable home. The large, well equipped kitchen helped make this beautiful property the perfect choice for our Bahamas vacation. The huge deck offers a stunning view of the ocean and nearby reef. For fantastic snorkeling, no need to go anywhere else. The heavily populated coral heads are a short kick away. The caretaker, Reynold, provided us transportation to and from the airport (there is a fee for this, request a quote in advance). He also was able to arrange and deliver a delicious Bahamian meal on our first evening. And with his charter service, we were able to enjoy plenty of fish and conch during our stay. Will definitely plan to stay there again, 5 stars!

Incredible Views

Our stay was amazing. Harrison was very helpful any time we had a question he was quick to answer and help out. The view from the back porch is absolutely stunning. Every morning we would step out back and be able to see an abundance of life. We even saw a free jumping blue marlin from the house. The reef system outside the house is completely alive with all sorts of growing corals. Rarely do you find something like this in the Bahamas. The pool was extremely refreshing after a long day of fishing or exploring the island. We went down to the beach a few times and used the kayaks to paddle around the coral heads that were near the beach. If you’re looking for a top notch secluded house with stunning views, this is the perfect house for you! 5/5 would definitely go back.

Beautiful house and location

We have stayed at many places in the Bahamas but Point House was the best. Beautiful location perched on a hill overlooking the best reefs on the island. The house was huge and had everything we needed including a beautiful pool. Snorkeling there was great at the reefs which were healthy with a lot of fish. Harrison, the caretaker, was awesome- cooking a few dinners for us and helping out with anything we needed. The owners were also great; promptly responding to questions and providing a ton of info about the island. Cat Island is very laid back but there are many places to explore including many beautiful beaches, several caves, the hike to the hermitage, blue holes, and ruins. Would highly recommend Greenwood Resort snorkel trip and restaurant which is not too far away. If the water is rough from east winds, check out Fernandez resort which has good food, beautiful beach and some snorkel spots at south of beach. Fell in love with Cat Island and this house in particular. Would love to return.

Paradise Awaits!

If you are on the fence about the place, don’t be. The location sets on the most beautiful serene piece of land. If you want the beauty of the ocean and secluded feel of having your own quiet and relaxing, peaceful place than this is it. Yet, it’s within 15-25 minutes of places to eat. Everyone was very welcoming and it was very easy to get around. Dinner with Chef at Hidden Treasures is a must (order the mango daiquiri) and Fernandez Bay resort as well. The owner of the house was amazing! She responds very quickly and is very accommodating. Harrison is the caretaker and was so very nice and helpful as well. Things to know, be prepared for potholes when driving into town. We ended up making a game out of it. Also, be sure to stock up on groceries so you aren’t having to drive back and forth. The grocery is on the way to the house from the airport.

Little slice of paradise!

Beyond Perfect! The view was absolutely stunning! The process of checking in and getting our luggage there was simple and made easy by the caretaker and owner. we stayed here with another couple and there was more than enough room with the 2 Master Suites on separate floors plus there were another 3 bedrooms for larger groups. The pool area was absolutely gorgeous, the nicest that I’ve ever seen in the Bahamas. I wish we could’ve stayed longer. Harrison, the caretaker was wonderful. The consistent speedy responsiveness of Harrison to every question we had about the property, before and during the trip was so appreciated and made the vacation stress free! The property is in a great location with beautiful views of both the sunrise and sunset from the large deck overlooking the ocean with a walkway down to ocean/beach. You must go and experience it. I highly recommend it. We will be staying there again.

Great house incredible island

The Point House is exactly as presented, incredible views and the cleanest pool we have ever seen. Inside was clean and was well equipped including a drinking water dispenser with 5 gal bottles which was very helpful. The care taker Harrison King was an excellent host. He brought us his fresh grown pineapples and watermelon and on our first night we arranged dinner that he prepared and delivered and was really tasty after a long day of travel. He also invited us to a "Farm to Table Experience" that he was putting on for some media people and the Ministry of Tourism at his farm that was really nice and we were very lucky to be included! He is also a great source of info about the island, culture and things to do. The Greenwood Resort had no guests but Pauline + Antwon still arranged for us to have 8 for dinner and music on my birthday with tuna steaks, was excellent! Beaches are crazy beautiful and all the people we met there were friendly and happy. AJ's store near the house is in the process of getting a gas pump installed and that will save a long drive. Olives Bakery is exceptional for bread! We made the trek out to Shannas for a Pizza which was super, but its a very long ride ($8/gal gas) Gilberts rent car great! We will be back and would rent from the Bannisters again for sure. Excellent communications, info packet and the best care taker ambassador on the island. Thank you Stephanie and Curt for sharing your beautiful place!!

FABULOUS VACATION

My family and I arrived at the Cat Island airport and were met by Harrison, the caretaker for the Bannisters properties. Harrison helped us with the rental car process and then led us to the local grocery store to get us started for the week and then to the Point House. Once we arrived at the Point House, we got settled in and in the evening Harrison brought us a home cooked meal of conch and grouper with sides. What a great meal after traveling all day. The Point House has 2 fabulous master bedrooms, each with their own balcony for ocean viewing along with other bedrooms. The kitchen is better than my own kitchen with dining area. The living room also has a large smart tv and the house has internet for anyone needing to get online or watch movies at the end of the day. Just outside the house is a pool that everyone enjoyed. It was used from sun up to sundown by at least one person. We also enjoyed heading down to the beach and either snorkeling around the reefs just off the beach or going kayaking. Harrison would stop by to check in on us and he recommended some restaurants to go to. Each was outstanding offering fresh fish, conch, chicken etc. drinks were great as well. You won’t complain about the food on the island. I can’t thank Harrison enough for his hospitality and kindness. He made things a lot easier for us. We all told him we’d be back!! A can’t go wrong vacation to get away!!!

Cat Island the Point House

There were 4 couples staying in the Point House on Cat Island. The two master bedrooms are very nice the two Queen rooms are quite small. Reynold was very responsive and great to work with. our party went fishing with him and it was an awesome experience. The people of Cat Island are very friendly and beaches are unbelievable! Be sure to plan to bring all of your basics along or buy them on the island as the house is not stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, kleenex, basic cooking things as salt and pepper etc. Grocery stores are very well stocked. The downside of this vacation is the airline service to CAT Island. Because no major airlines travel to CAT Island from Nassau we flew Western air. I would not recommend this airline as we checked in for our flight to be told that the airline had changed their flight times 6 weeks earlier and failed to notify us of the changes. They proceeded to tell me I booked my connecting flight "illegally" because we would need to go through customs in Nassau and did not allow enough time. Needless to say we had to rebook our connecting flights which was difficult and potentially very expensive. There was no apologies, no communication and very very poor customer service.

Another Wonderful Vacation on Cat Island

This was our 2nd trip to the Point House on Cat Island. We had a wonderful vacation some years back and had been wanting to return. Our dream came to fruition this year and everyone agreed that this vacation was even better than our first. We had a fabulous time! The owners of this home had added noteworthy improvements to the house: beautiful new kitchen, new bathrooms and beautiful furnishings. The location of this house is beyond description with the outstanding views from just about anywhere in the house. Our travels to Cat Island went very smoothly. We flew into Nassau and then took Western Air’s 1:00 pm flight which was so quick! We landed in Cat Island at 1:30 to be greeted by the Point House caretaker, Harrison. He was so helpful, assisted us with our luggage and waited while we shopped at the store which was fully stocked with everything we needed. The house was also stocked with the essentials, toilet paper, paper towels, salt and pepper and cleaning supplies. Our favorite part of our stay was spending hours by the oceanfront pool which is absolutely gorgeous! I’m embarrassed to say, I did have to get on the internet some to perform work duties while on this vacation but was so pleased with the internet speed. I was able to join Zoom meetings without any difficulty. One of the highlights of our vacation was the fishing trip with one of the fisherman that was listed in the house guide and the owners helped to arrange. We came back with grouper, snapper and lobster and had several grill outs on the deck. (Good times!) We ate well between local island Restaurants and our fresh catch! We felt sad to leave; we will definitely return again!

Amazing family vacation....LOVED IT!

After deciding to visit the other islands in the bahamas, my husband and I and our three children decided on the out island Cat Island, we wanted to relax and get away from any from the crowds and resort deistractions and be able concentrate on a really nice family vacation. We were so happy with the choice of cat island, it has such a unique charm of solitude combined with the most gorgeous turquiose waters I have ever seen. The house we rented is called the Point House, it was so nice to have as much space for my teenage son and my younger girls chose thier favorite rooms immediately, my son happily chose the st floor master on the otherside of the house:)!! My husband and I had the top floor master with private deck. The kitchen was so amazing and modern, newly renovated and luxurious. I was so pleased everything about the house mades us perk up and realize we were going to have best stay. The house comes with a caretaker his name is Reynold Butler, he and my husband hit it off immediately, they made a plan to catch bonefish in a tidal creek in walking distance, Reynold made this trip so exactly what we were looking forward to, he brought us to a remote part of the island you can oly get to by boat or foot, it was absolutly breath taking, he also took us deepsea fishing; my son was able to land a tuna, he is already insisting on coming back next year to catch a wahoo. Reynolds also showed my girls where all the sand dollars were hiding, they are so proud of thier collection. He took such good care of us, he even brought us to the regatta site which has all these delectable island treats, we definately recommend the "cracked conch" and the conch fritters, I recommend the fresh daiquiris-it was like a wonderful postcard dining along the white sandy beach watching the sunset. We give this experience 5 stars with staying at this beautiful gem of a house that sits on top of a high oceanside cliff that I enjoyed all day on one of its amazing vista decks watching my husband and kids play on the beach and in the sea. The cat island people were very friendly, the atmoshpere is quiet and layed back. There is even a little store you can bike ride to pick up those forgotten last minute items. We are already planning on coming again next year. This was our favorite most unforgettable top notch vacation!! Seabreeze Moments Worchester, Massachusettes

Wonderfully wonderful

We are seasoned Bahamas travelers. I was very happy with the house and listing. Couldn’t ask for more. I’ll say this in the best of lights- we had a couple of small problems and mr king was there right on time to get them fixed. Problems happen in the tropics. They addressed everything promptly and effectively which is not such a common trait to find. We had some leftover supplies and couldn’t think of a nicer man to distribute to his church than mr king. Great experience. Great man. Great house.

Paradise Found! Take Time To Explore Cat Island and This House Is The Perfect Relaxation Station!

An incredible story..... In May of 2014, my wife and I went to The Point House on Cat Island. We were scheduled for 8 days. While travelling from the US to the Bahamas, I got deathly ill. After two days on Cat Island, I was medically evacuated back to the States with severe congestive heart failure. All of the beauty and the expenses to get to this paradise seemed lost. The home owner, Dr. Curt Bannister, never stopped caring about me or my family. After I got better (14 to 15 months), Dr. Bannister offered to let us resume our anniversary trip back to Cat Island and Bain's Town. Boy are we glad we went back and resumed this trip 18 months later. The place is just spectacular! The views of the Atlantic Ocean are tops. The island, though ravished by hurricanes and tropical storms annually, is simply filled with beauty. Let me tell you, the Island people are first class and the kindest hosts of any place in the world. Everywhere we went, they beeped their horns and waved as we passed. When we went out looking for anything, someone was always helpful in locating a food stand (there are no American type restaurants), a convenience store (some are very small) and places to buy beverages (water must be purchased - alcohol can be expensive). If you go, rent a car from Gilberts. They also have a motel, liquor store and convenience store with most supplies. Make one of your suitcases specifically for meats, toilet paper, spices, bread, and anything you need to survive but don't want to spend at least $5.00 on. $5.00 seems to be the base price on everything due to import costs. Best time to visit is July through November. It's off season. Less than 750 people on the island at these times of the year. Must see places....Hawk's Nest (as American touristy as it gets); The Hermitage (spectacular and worth the climb); Downtown New Bight (the "restaurants" like Duke's); Mary's Crab Shack; any of the churches (Mt. Zion Catholic was spectacular!). One special thing was most amazing to us. The Old Bight Gospel Chapel and Mission Home is a wonderful orphanage. The 17 kids we meet were extremely polite and well mannered. These kids need forever homes! We had lunch with them twice and went to Sunday church. Junior Morris, Ms. Smith & Ms. Dawkins were amazing hosts who take great care of these kids. We loved them all. But they need your support, so please stop by. Special thanks to Reynold Bulter. Also Tanny! Have them take you fishing!

Perfect Place. Great Time

Arrived end of July and stayed for 14 days. Had no complaints about anything. The AC worked well. Kitchen is new and functional. Lots of room.. Sat TV is a working dream on big TV screen. Beds are very good. Porch sits over the water and great corral . Perfect to look at in morning having coffee. Wireless internet works well. You will find the locals on Cat to be friendly and helpful. The local food store is about 15 min but will have everything you need. Stop at the store before going to house as you will need basic supplies. Rent your car form Gilberts. It will save you a 60 dollar taxi from airport and to airport plus the extra room of the SUV will be needed. Lots of beaches everywhere. No matter which way the wind blows you can find a calm beach . The best snorkeling from beach is over nest to Greenwood resort. Mary's Crab shack is a 5 min car ride. Call in and your order will be ready for pickup when you get there. Go for the lobster or wing plate. Great fried chicken and only 6 dollars. Conch fritters are only 4 for a dollar. The snorkeling is great next to house but may be a little rough sometimes. Put the kayaks in the SUV and put in at the turnaround on a falling tide. Great float. The resident property manager Reynold Butler is the local manager and checks on you every day. Also he will be there very quickly if you need him. Charter Reynold to go conch and snorkeling. Get ready to eat conch. Make sure you get Reynold to show you how to cut up the clean conch. Makes it very tinder. Have Reynold put the excess conch on a rope in the old boat launch nest to house. This will allow you to have fresh conch on demand. Had all my grandchildren with me and their parents sometimes. Everyone had a great time. House was well worth the money.

8/10 Good

Breathtaking views, once in a lifetime moments!

The home was beautiful! The location, though primitive, was breathtaking! Dismiss any thought of civilization as you know it, as well as any mention of Reynold and his family, and head straight for Dave, Carol, and Shayne. Without this trio, our stay would not have been the sublime getaway of which we dreamt! If perfect vistas and first class service is what you desire, trust me, this is your only destination on Cat Island and ONLY Dave and Carol can deliver the experience. They know the locals, can arrange the excursions, whether boating or flights to other islands, musical performances at the house, private gourmet chef dinners, tours of local nightlife, or delivery of fresh seafood, their consistency never waivered. Demand their service from start to finish!!
