The ' Borgo'- off the old Roman ' Via Volterrana 'has been rebuilt from ruins. Italian heritage laws are very strict and the whole village has been reconstructed on the same footprint as the original. Now we have a wonderful place for visitors to come and enjoy the Tuscan countryside within easy reach of all that Tuscany has to share with the world. 'Casa Bartoli' is part of what was a large farm building and is now a modern spacious 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. The bathrooms are beautifully tiled in travertine marble.Terracotta tiled floors and ceilings with huge wooden beams supporting the roof are typical of the area. The main bedroom has a double bed and the second -which is a larger room-has two single beds which can be used as a double bed...both bathrooms have no baths-but showers are excellent with plenty of hot water supplied from the solar( supplemented by gas) system. All kitchen utensils and appliances are new- dishwasher,2 small fridges (one with freezer), gas stove and oven.A small fully automatic washing machine is also provided. The dining area inside seats 6 people comfortably-or dine outside at the 'al fresco' table under the trees... The swimming pool and spa are just wonderful for a dip after a hot days touring. Here you are central to all that Tuscany has to offer. There are many good restaurants nearby- just up the road- the nearest is"' Osteria Il Castagno" a nice little restaurant about a 5 minute drive away. For grocery shopping if you prefer to dine under the trees at home- there is the big PAM supermarket in Poggibonsi, the COOPs in San Gimignano, Montaione and Certaldo or the smaller minimarket in Gambassi Terme. A day trip to Florence ( or Siena )is easy by train from the station in Certaldo, avoiding the driving and parking problems associated with each city. The Chianti Classico wine region can be reached within an hours drive. The ' Borgo ', down a quiet road in the countryside between San Gimignano,Gambassi Terme and Volterra provides "away from it all" tranquility. Please come and enjoy the wonders of the Tuscan countryside from a very central location...

Absolutely loved our stay here. The place was perfect with lots of lovely sitting areas outdoors, beautiful views over the Tuscan hills and a gorgeous pool area. Close to lots of amazing Tuscan villages full of gorgeous food and restaurants! Will be hoping to come back one day soon!
Amazing apartment and environment. Well equiped and cozy. A bit crowded in the pool area but manageable.
Do note that you need to drive 20 min to stores but restaurants pops up in the middle of nowhere to be explored.
Winetasting was a success from our side.
A really good place if you just want to relax but also close to cities like Siena and Florens. We webt to Siena which was amazing.
1hour drive to the sea is recommended.(Cesina)
This is a unit within a small townhouse complex in the heart of Tuscany. It has a gorgeous shared infinity pool overlooking Tuscany and the unit is clean with a full kitchen and two bedrooms and bathrooms. The buildings themselves are all made of stone - quite beautiful and fit with the Tuscan scene. Gordon his property manager are helpful, communicate promptly and are very nice.
The listing doesn't do this place justice, it has an outstanding view of the beautiful Italian landscape. The property has a nice calm and relaxing area and all the ammonites that one can wish for. Friendly area, great location if you want to see some authentic sights of Italy (San Gimignano and Volterra to name a couple) but also if you want to lounge by a pool to unwind and decompress.
The owner was always in contact when needed and gave clear instructions.
This rental was everything we hoped for for our trip to Tuscany. The location was perfect for all of our day trips. Gordon and Marco were very kind and responsive to our messages. We had an unexpected delay due to a train strike and Marco worked with us for a seamless check-in. My husband kept saying that the pictures didn't do the rental justice, it really exceeded our expectations.
The pool was a nice treat after a long day in the heat (note we should have brought our own pool towels as stated in the rental contract). For future renters, I'd suggest arriving with your own hand soap and paper products for the washrooms. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking.

Wonderful, Relaxing!
The villa was lovely! It was clean, spacious and equipped with everything we needed. The views were amazing. It was too cool for the pool, but it was clean and inviting. There were a couple problems with the oven and burners, but the owner and manager promised to have them fixed. The parking is off site but was just a short walk from the villa.

High expectations did not disappoint!
Tuscany and accommodations were as beautiful as imagined. Our flight was late getting in so we arrived late and in the dark. Difficult to find but once I called Gordon he helped us. Gordon was very responsive to any questions we had. The internet was hit and miss but other than that it was perfect!

Lovely home, great location in rural Tuscany!
Lovely, large, and comfortable home for 2 adults and 2 teens. The setting and views are fantastic, as is the pool. We had some trouble initially finding this place; I strongly recommend that you follow Gordon's recommendations regarding arrival and do NOT rely on Google maps GPS coordinates. Also, follow his recommendations regarding picking up supplies (food, TP etc) on the way. There is a great grocery store (COOP) nearby in Montaione. Wifi is hit and miss (as expected ini rural Italy). Gordon was very responsive with any issues. I would not hesitate to recommend this place for a quiet lovely family getaway and a great base for exploring the hill towns. We particularly loved Volterra.
We stayed with our teenage daughter in late June. This place was just as listed. Super clean, with high-end finishes and lovely views from every room. The apartment is spacious, with two full bathrooms and a large kitchen. AC worked well. We LOVED the pool area and the amazing view from the pool. There were a few families at the pool at most and the size was just about big enough for short laps. Very convenient to Florence, Sienna and Lucca, though the immediate area was a bit isolated with poor cellular reception and no stores. (There is a farm up the road where you can buy excellent olive oil, eggs etc.) The wifi in the house was also a bit spotty and combined with poor cell reception in the area it sometimes took a few extra minutes to plan our day. Beds were hard but not a dealbreaker. Overall it one of the best places I have ever rented, excellent value. Highly recommend!

Perfect Tuscany Hideaway
My husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary by visiting Tuscany with another couple. During the planning stage, Gordon helped us out immensely with suggestions ranging from car rentals to restaurants. He gave us detailed driving instructions which led us directly to this countryside gem. The outside is beautifully rustic and the inside was warm and inviting with large bedrooms and modern bathrooms. The pictures do not do this home justice at all. We walked through the front door and across the open floor plan we could see the outline of the hill town, Volterra, framed in the kitchen window. Stunning! Every evening we would wander down to the gorgeous infinity pool and watch the sun set behind Volterra. Although there are other units in the complex we still felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. Gordon also surprised us with several bottles of prosecco to celebrate our big day. We loved how easy it was to jump in the car and within 20 minutes be at the hill town of San Gimignano. Make reservations at Le Vecchio Mura for the best food and the most stunning view in Tuscany if you dine on their terrace. Volterra and Sienna were easy drives. Want to go to Florence? Leave your car behind and hop the train in Certaldo. One suggestion I have is to stop at the grocery store on the way to the rental destination and stock up with what you need. Look for a "Coop." We would stay at this location again and again.
Jederzeit wieder…
I am an Australian, my wife is Japanese and we live in Sydney. Both of us have been very interested in travel from an early age, having met in the late 1960's working for a well known Australian airline. We have traveled to many parts of the world-but Florence and Tuscany have become our favourite holiday destinations. We are now retired, still enjoy travel and catering for guests in our Tuscan home.
Why they chose this property
My wife and I first visited Florence and San Gimignano in 1995.We then came back numerous times as we loved this part of Tuscany. We made friends with the owners of the Agriturismo we always stayed near San Gimignano and they introduced us to this development at 'Borgo Mummialla' where they and some dedicated local people were going to rebuild the 'Borgo' from total ruins. The village was abandoned many years ago and all the buildings had to be rebuilt from the ground up.Strict heritage laws ensured the reconstruction retained as much of the stone and terracotta etc from the original buildings as possible. Having had dreams of owning a house in Tuscany and knowing the people involved reassured us that this was a top quality development and we took the plunge....in the deep end...we now hope we can share this unique development with other visitors to our house....
What makes this property unique
The original farmhouse buildings have been reconstructed from the ground up using a lot of the old materials, but everything inside is new including a washing machine, beds and all the kitchen appliances and equipment.Hotwater is supplied by a solar system ( with gas heater backup) as much thought went into enviromental best practice. The two bathrooms are beautifully tiled in travertine marble and the plumbing is all new...There are about 6-8 steps up from ground level to the front door-but once inside the apartment all is on one level. Several of the other apartments at 'Borgo Mummialla' are 2 storey, the swimming pool with spa is wonderful and great to come home to after a hot days touring as is the outdoor 'al fresco' dining area under the trees. The outdoor area is for use of 'Casa Bartoli' guests only-unless you invite the neighbours over of course. There is a great view across the valley, with Volterra on the horizon from the kitchen and also the main bedroom..This is our 'dream come true' home in the heart of Tuscany... .
