Family get together

House was nice and roomy, I’m a cook and we like to feed people the kitchen lacked cooking and serving items. The owners were friendly and easy to get a hold of and helpful. Many times who you are with is more valuable than were you are.

Good for families with younger children

We enjoyed our stay at Maggie’s Manor. Our kids ESPECIALLY loved playing with the owner’s pets at the little playground on the hill. The yard and garden were beautiful. The view was amazing (we watched several propeller planes passing). The hot tub was BIG and we could see the water and the boats (and several hawks) while lounging. The owners were extremely nice and easy to reach (we ended up chatting with them in the morning while the kids played with the dogs). They were also very responsive. The location is on the quieter side with not much to walk to. There is no beach access. But driving on Orcas is beautiful and Eastsound can be reached in an easy 20 min drive. The house is older and quaint, but everything works. For us the house and location worked especially well because we are a family with 3 very loud active children, and they were able to be loud and active without us feeling like we needed to “shush” them for neighbors.

A diamond in the rough

Maggie's Manor is in a beautiful and peaceful setting with excellent views. The house has rustic charm and the owners are very quick to respond to problems. This is fortunate, as we had to call on them at least once a day to restart the furnace and once to replace an electrical breaker that had overheated. Over the course of our 4 day stay we saw a lot of Bob. Most concerning to me was the lack of smoke alarms in most of the bedrooms and throughout the house.. If the maintenance backlog was taken care of and the house brought up to fire code I would highly recommend it as a great place to stay on Orcas island.

Great time and laden with history

Kitchen and dining areas were great with room for dining and prepwork. Living area was homey and had games, TV and wifi. Bedrooms were a bit short with size of beds but linens and pillows were very accommodating.. Upstairs was very warm but was provided with fans. Outdoors was great for dogs but not fenced in. Fantastic view from the hot tub. All and all it was comfortable and homey. The house was a little tired. The owners were great with anything that came up.

Gathering of Eight 1977 High School Friends

This was the perfect spot for my group of eight active 60+ year olds who like to paddle-board, hike, and share dinners together. One of our friends brought a dog that loved socializing with two of the local dogs. We had a wonderful, peaceful event and thoroughly enjoyed the location. This spot is one of the beautiful locations I have traveled to . Bravo!

Owners very responsive to problems and solved them promptly. Beautiful view and house very comfortable. House is old and has associated wear. Lovely dogs visit at times. About 30 minutes from Eastbound. All in all a very laid back island.

Beautiful location and property

We spent an amazing week on Orcas at Maggie's Manor! The home needs some updates, but the location is beautiful and peaceful. Our children loved exploring the grounds, playing fetch with the dogs, finding the cat, and "swimming" in the hot tub surrounded by a beautiful view. Meg and Bob were friendly and responsive leading up to and throughout our stay. The home was very spacious for 4 adults and five children. The rooms all had lots of privacy so kids could sleep in even with an early riser one year old who liked to play piano on the grand piano at 7 am!

Great location, poor upkeep

Perfect location for a quiet get away, but was disappointed in the disrepair of the premises. Cobwebs and spider nests were visible; multiple lights were out; kitchen faucet was loose but workable. Both the grill and the hot tub were too dirty to use. Was definitely not as nice as the pictures showed.

Wonderful time on Orcas!

We visited for 8 days in July and had a lovely time. My kids loved the dogs and cat that would come visit (I believe they were the highlight of the trip) as well as the play structure, estuary, garden and frog pond. About 20 minute drive to Moran State Park (amazing) for day trips, as well. Bob and Meg were very friendly and helpful. We had a great time.

Farmhouse by the Sea

We spent a lovely week at Maggie's Manor. We had four adults and one child. There was ample room for family gatherings, meals, and also moments of quiet retreat. I kept finding myself spending looking moments looking out at Deer Harbor and the islands beyond. It's a view I'll never get tired of seeing. The farmhouse has lots of nooks and crannies - perfect for hide and seek! There was even enough room to work on a large puzzle all week in the dining room, and still have the big kitchen table for family meals. We appreciated the space in the large kitchen, and exploring the many acres of land. An added bonus was the visits from Sunny & Shep, the family dogs. They're so sweet! Maggie's Manor was a great place to stay while exploring all the areas of Orcas. Thank you for sharing your farmhouse, Meg & Bob!

Fabulous island home for family gathering!

Maggie's Manor is a lovely four bedroom, 2 bathroom, classic island home for our family of 7 plus a baby. Huge beautiful kitchen make meal preparation a delight and a true family affair! The view is incredible: Deer Harbor bay, boating activity, the occasional seaplane landing and taking off, ferry boats, just great! There is even a piano in the large living room! We all loved our stay at Maggie's Manor and will definitely return!

Good for Large Groups

Maggie's Manor is well equipped for large groups (we had 10 people). Kitchen is well stocked. There were plenty of towels. Lots of seating, deck is great, and fire pit out back was nice. It is a very peaceful place with a great view of Deer Harbor. That being said, there were a few things that were a little funky. The kitchen and upstairs bathroom had carpeting! Not a good idea. You can't sweep it and who knows what is in it. Kinda gross. There are two sinks in the kitchen island which seems like a good idea but there are no sprayer nozzles so you can't clean out the sink without pouring pitchers of water in them. Plus the faucets swing out over the counter so if you accidently turn on the water with them like that you've just run water all over the counter and floor. The water pressure was too low for the main kitchen sink nozzle to spray so again no way to clean out the sink without a lot of effort. Garbage disposal doesn't really work; caused a blockage and the sink wouldn't drain, had to do some ad hoc plumbing work. Doors don't close very well. Main floor bathroom could use some updating. So, some things that could be fixed to make it totally top notch. But, nothing was a show stopper and it was a great weekend.

Amazing vacation rental! Have stayed here over and over again.

My family and I have been fortunate enough to enjoy Maggie’s Manor on multiple occasions. We love the time we have spent there as a couple, for a romantic weekend, as well as the time we have spent there with extended family for a family reunion. The house is warm and inviting with amenities that met all of our needs. We loved the chef’s kitchen, the fire pit outside, the beautiful decks overlooking the harbor and sitting in the hot tub under the stars. Orcas Island and specifically Deer Harbor is home to some of the most pristine and relaxing surroundings anywhere in the country. My family and I travel extensively and return repeatedly to this hidden gem. What always makes our stay at Maggie’s complete is the care with which the owners take care of their property and their guests. They go to great lengths to ensure that all of your needs are met and offer up their extensive knowledge of the island to make your stay is truly memorable. I can’t say enough about Maggie’s Manor: the location, hosts, and amenities are absolutely amazing.

Wonderful Time at Maggie's Manor!

We rented Maggie's Manor for our ladies' Bible study group to have a retreat. Meg and Bob were most accomodating and made sure we had everything we needed, even down to some specialized kitchen utensils. The house was clean and welcoming, hot-tub was warm and they even stocked firewood for us. We were so thankful for such a wonderful place to meet (including a piano!) and such a beautiful kitchen to prepare our meals. The setting is fabulous, with gorgeous views and great places to walk or run right from the house. The owners are very gracious hosts. We highly recommend Maggie's Manor for your gathering.

Wonderful Place, Wonderful People

Maggie's Manor was the perfect place for an intimate escape with friends. We were blown away by the amazing view of the water and Olympic mountains from the hot tub, and spent many hours taking in the beautiful scenery. Meg and Robert were wonderful hosts who paid great attention to detail in preparing the property (chopped fire-wood inside and out, full propane tank, etc.). To be blunt, we couldn't find the other review further from the truth. The house was well kept, clean, and comfortable, and we felt like it was worth every penny. In fact, we have already made our reservations for next new years! Our stay was fantastic, and we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have stayed in such a beautiful place. We highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a private get-away on a gorgeous island. Thanks again Meg and Robert, we really appreciated this weekend. Mike + Friends

2/10 Terrible

Online Photos & Phone Conversations Are Very Misleading!!

We traveled with our friends to Orcas Island on July 24th to stay 3 nights at Maggies Manor. We found the rental on the internet and both my friend, and I spoke with Meg Conner prior to renting her vacation home. We were told that Maggie's Manor was a gracious, lovely, home filled with antiques, boasting a fantastic view of the sound. We were also told that there was an 8 person hot tub and wifi available. This is what we found: A shabby, tired, rundown, old farmhouse. Old, somewhat dirty, uncomfortable furniture. Extremely uncomfortable beds. Laundry from the previous renters left to get moldy in the washer, outside garbage cans full. Overgrown yard that is unkempt and getting to the point that it is blocking the view of the sound. A hot tub that only heats, the jets don't work. Cobwebs in the showers, dusty furniture, no bath mats, no towel racks, bedding that is from the 1990's. Wifi that only works sometimes and then you have to go outside at that. A tv that gets terrible reception. All in all a terrible experience. We saved for this trip and at an exorbitant cost per night we thought that we were getting something really nice. I have stayed in houses that only charged a fraction of what this house rented for and they were much nicer. I think it's sad that people take such advantage of others. It's an island and you're a captive audience so they know that you can't go anywhere else. Orcas Island over all is wonderful and well worth visiting...just don't make the mistake we did by staying at Maggie's Manor.

We have lived full time on Orcas Island since 1975, raising three sons, who are now married with children who love to visit their grand-parents. We have been happily married for 54 years!

We moved up here with a down payment and no jobs and over the years have done many things. We have worked, farmed, been in construction, operated heavy equipment, coached Little League for all three sons, participated in countless community activities, volunteered at the school, run two successful gift and clothing shops, designed and built several buildings including the amazing Gnome House, and remodeled our other vacation rental waterfront home, Maggie's Manor, using the outstanding design drawings of our eldest son, now an Architect.

We are involved in cutting edge restoration of marine habitat and recently completed a 9 weir salmon ladder and planted over 1500 plants and trees over our estuarine and riparian areas. If you have a Facebook page, visit the Deer Harbor Stewardship Project page to see some of what we have been doing. We hope you will 'Like' it.

We have extensive backgrounds in skiing, sailing, cycling and mountaineering. We enjoy adventures and vacations with our children and grand-children.

Why they chose this property

We acquired this classic island waterfront home from a dear family friend who had lived there for over 40 years. We added the third and fourth bedrooms on the upper floor along with a second bathroom. The original tiny kitchen was enlarged to a gorgeous, modern 400 square foot kitchen. After extensive refurbishing and redecorating, we began welcoming vacationing guests in the summer of 1997.

Maggie’s Manor is located on our 140 acre estate, near our home, and also near our other wonderful vacation rental an extremely popular chalet, the Gnome House, and now also, our darling Grandma and Grandpa's Getaway apartment on the lower level of our home. We wanted to share our Orcas Island lifestyles with visitors from all over the world. We have on-going environmental restoration activities on our 3 streams, several ponds, magnificent 20 acre estuary, and 20 acre wildfowl marsh, as well as beautiful, productive farm and forest land. It is considered the most significant environmentally diverse San Juan Islands' property by local, state and federal environmental agencies.

The beauty and tranquility of Nature inspires everyone who visits.

Orcas Island is the most popular place in Washington to get married, and is the dream vacation spot for people all over the world, and we get to live here! And when visitors leave and we say 'goodbye', we always are so thankful that we don't have to leave this paradise! Orcas Island is our HOME.

What makes this property unique

In addition to the extraordinary beauty and serenity of Nature, so inspiring to us all, the incredible good weather in Deer Harbor is one of the main reasons for living here. Deer Harbor on beautiful Orcas Island is located in the 'Rain Shadow' area of the Great Pacific Northwest enjoying only 23 inches of rain and over 260 sunny days annually. This means that we can enjoy the great outdoors all year long, hiking, biking, sailing, fishing, etc.

There have been documented over 80 species of birds frequenting the extremely vibrant freshwater marsh. There are a variety of environmental programs in progress. We work with scientists, students, and Native Americans on our restoration efforts. Our property is the site of the first white European settler on Orcas Island, Louis Cayou, who married into the Samish Nation in the mid-1800s. We are working with the Samish descendants of Cayou in our restoration efforts, and hope to have their annual Canoe Journey with about 60 canoes stop here in the future.
Should your dates not be available in this beautiful home, please see our other wonderful vacation rental homes: " Grandma and Grandpa’s Getaway for 2 adults + one child, "Famous Romantic Gnome House Chalet “ for up to 4 adults and 2 small children.
