This duplex was put up for sale shortly after we booked on vrbo. The property was in a state of disrepair. The railing on the second floor had damaged/missing balusters, nails on the stairway to the house were exposed, the drapes were stained, the dishes were dirty, dead bugs were scattered about, the soffit was visibly rotten, etc.

I cant speak to this property specifically, even though we originally booked this house, we were moved the day prior to our stay to another property down the street.
The property manager/owner was very responsive and apologized for the unexpected move. We will most definitely book with him again.
I had booked a home initially back in November 2023 but 2 days before my trip, I received an email that said the property was no longer available as it had to undergo repairs. After chatting to the host, he showed me an available townhouse and I agreed and it was booked. Once I landed at the airport, I got a notification that the property was once again, no longer available. I sat at the airport for about 2 hours trying to figure out a new home with the host and ultimately he had one other home option. This was my first and last experience with Vrbo as this situation was very unorganized and was definitely not that start I wanted to my trip.
This was our first time renting through Vrbo. The original house we booked was located close to Kempner Park, restaurants, historic sights and closer to the cruise ports. However there was an issue with the house and due to the late notices we would not have found a similar property without paying a premium and so we accepted. The alternate house was not clean, the floors were dirty, table tops were not clean with visible stains. The bunk beds were not sturdy and we had to take the mattress down and sleep on the floor. There were maybe two restaurants within walking distance in that were open and we had to opt to eat food from a fuel station. All the sight seeing was no longer in short walking distances. We had enquired if we could enter the house an hour earlier as we had small children and seniors. We were told that the cleaners needed time to clean the place and that if possible we would be able to enter early. We sat outside the house for nearly 3 hours, no one came or went from the house, no cleaners. We did not receive communication except when we asked when we would receive the code to enter. We were told an hour before check in. There was no response regarding letting us in early. We did not receive the code an hour before and so we had to call and follow up. The communications started off great but it seems once we agreed to stay in the alternative house, communications dropped off. The rate we paid should have been less for the alternate but no offers
The update was nice but two of the beds were very uncomfortable. Kitchen was nicely stocked. Looked across the street to low income apartments. Belt a little unsafe.
