Enchanting Christmas Stay

I always read reviews before booking, and what stood out about Luigi's home were the glowing comments about him—not just the house. That’s why I chose it, and I’m so glad I did. We stayed for nine days over Christmas with our four children. This was our first big family vacation during a major holiday, and Luigi helped make it special, comfortable, and feel like home. From the moment we arrived, Luigi went above and beyond. Jet-lagged and without a car, he took my husband to get dinner when most places were closed. He checked on us daily, offering advice and detailed recommendations. When my daughter hurt her back, Luigi helped immediately and checked on her the next day. On Christmas, his family invited us for drinks, making us feel truly welcomed.Luigi made the house festive for the holidays, putting up a beautiful tree just for us. He greeted us with thoughtful gifts, including his incredible homemade olive oil. The house itself was stunning, in the best location in Cortona. The views were breathtaking, and the house was spotless, beautifully decorated, and incredibly comfortable. There’s no doubt we’ll be back. Luigi’s kindness and hospitality made this trip unforgettable. If you’re considering staying here, don’t hesitate—you’ll be so glad you did.

Totally magical!

We are so lucky to have stayed in this lovely villa! The views from the back yard take your breath a way! It is super clean, well appointed. The very beautiful back yard setting was our favorite! Luigi was so cool! We had many great conversations with him and even enjoyed an aperitif with him in town. Incredible villa, incredible town. Thank you Luigi for helping make our stay wonderful!

A lovely villa in a great location

The villa is lovely and quiet just up the hill from the centre of Cortona, the walk literally takes 8-10 minutes. Plenty of parking, nice pool (a slight wasp infestation issue aside) and all the amenities you need. Supermarket is a 5 minute drive away. Rooms are all nice and upstairs has air conditioning (the master room aircon wasn’t cooling below 27 degrees but the other two bedrooms cooled nicely - it does get very hot). Luigi pops round most days to keep things ship shape. Would recommend for families or friends 4-6 people. It’s probably a challenging walk for families with young children to walk to town. .

Fantastic house and location

We had a great week here. The house is very comfortable with all three bedrooms having aircon and their own smart bathroom. Fantastic view from all aspects and lots of space, as well as great pool. Hosts were very helpful and responsive. Town was lovely and only a 10 minute walk so perfect for meals, drinks and shopping without needing to use the car. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic stay in a breathtaking location

My husband and I, our two children (aged 2 years and 2 months) and my parents spent two fantastic weeks in this beautiful property. Perched on a hill, the view of the surrounding countryside is spectacular. The garden is beautifully maintained with flowering plants and the lawn (lush and green even in July) was perfect for my 2 year old to run and kick a ball. Two large trees provide shade in the afternoon and we found there was always a breeze so that we could enjoy dinners outside even on hot days. The pool is beautifully landscaped and slightly away from the main lawn, which ways helpful from a safety point of view with young kids. Inside the house was very spacious and perfect for our family set up, with the upstairs bedrooms separated into two “wings”, with one bedroom/bathroom to one side of the house and two more bedrooms and bathrooms to the other side (so my parents could sleep at one end of the house without being disturbed by our early waking toddler!) The aircon in the bedrooms worked very well and we found the whole house stayed nice and cool despite the heat. Cortona town is a short walk away along quiet (although uphill on the return - with young children in tow, it took us 15-20 mins to walk up). There’s also a nice little playground between the house and the town. Finally, the host Luigi and his family could not have been more helpful and attentive and went above and beyond when we had a medical emergency towards the end of our stay. Thank you Luigi!

Mulinoavento is PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT

I will give a quick summary then a more detailed description if you want to read more in TripAdivsor / Google Reveiws The Villa was a perfect base for our Family of 5 adults trip to Tuscany. The view alone from the front of the house overlooking the valley is worth it. You have a clean house with 3 very good size bedrooms on the second floor, 2 with private bathrooms w/shower and the 3rd with also a separate bathroom just outside the bedroom door, a 4th powder room on the entry level. Kitchen and dining area are well stocked. 2 refrigerators, living area to relax, a private pool also with a great view. Villa could accommodate 6 adults very easy (think 3 couples). Geography / Location: Villa Mulinoavento is located on a high hill just up the road (very narrow) from the hill town of Cortona. Viewing the location on a map is a little deceiving. You think is is just a winding road, but in reality you are driving/walking up a hill just on the outskirts of the Cortona city center. You can walk to Cortona (10 minutes to edge of town, 15 to center). It is a downhill walk to town, but remember you have to walk back up the hill. There is limited parking near center city so walking is the best mode. We used this villa as a base camp and explored to different cities each day all within a hour to hour and a half drive (Montepulciano, Assisi, Sienna, Florence). Your host Luigi is very accommodating and a pleasure to work with during and prior to the stay.

Posizione ideale - exactly what we were looking for

An ideal spot in every way. The view, walking access to Cortona, and within reach of other towns to explore. We were two couples, each with 17-year-old daughters. We stayed one week. The house itself is very charming. We had more than ample space to be together and to relax on our own. Dining tables in the kitchen, a formal dining room and another one outdoors. The kitchen itself is a bit tight for too many chefs, but it felt authentic. A/C in the bedrooms worked well and the rest of the house was comfortable even in the heat. The view is absolutely incredible with the entire val di chiana below and Montepulciano visible in the distance. We walked into Cortona almost every day (with a gelato on the way home). A beautiful town with fabulous restaurants, museums/churches and shops. It felt different than other towns we visited somehow - there were still tourists to be sure and we had no problem getting by in English - but it felt more like a vibrant living town than an attraction. We began with a walking tour - a great way to orient ourselves. We had day trips to Arezzo, Montepulciano, Pienza and wine tasting in Montalcino. We also went bird-watching at Lake Trasimeno ... too hot in July. Wish we had time to see more, but we also wanted to spend time relaxing by the pool. Luigi and Nicoletta are gracious hosts. Luigi was super responsive and helpful (even coming to town to help us find our walking tour guide when things went amiss). Grazie mille!!!

Tuscan delight - would definitely stay there again.

Exceeded our expectations. Thrilled to share what a gem this place was, though (honestly) with a bit of hesitation only from a concern it will become too popular and difficult to reserve next time. The pictures of the property do not oversell, it is a beautiful villa. With spectacular views looking down over the Tuscan valley. Everyone morning we all marveled at waking up to that view. We were two couples (friends) staying for the week. The house was more than roomy enough that we never felt on top of each other. The spacious bedrooms were on opposite sides of the villa. Could have easily accommodated another couple in the third bedroom. Though the third bedroom has its own full bath that bathroom is accessed from the hallway, right in front of the door to the other bedroom. Minor inconvenience. They did a terrific job of renovating this historic farmhouse villa, with just enough modern touches. Bathrooms, kitchen, AC/ heat, wifi, laundry all worked well. The host family lives on the property, though far enough separated that you do not see heir house from the villa. You do walk/ drive by their house on the way to the villa, but even then there is a separate gate/ driveway for the villa you can use that does make it feel like you are fully isolated - if that is what you want. Luigi was very responsive and accessible. The day we arrived he called to offer to meet us in town to guide the villa. He then gave us a full walk through of the villa explaining how everything worked. My only suggestion to Luigi is to create a written instruction book to leave in the house as my jet-lagged brain did not retain everything from the walk through. Though any question I texted to Luigi was promptly answered, even by him running up to the villa to show us personally. The Cortona location could not have worked out better for our week of touring Tuscany. The town itself is a delight to explore. A very rich history. No shortage of restaurants, shops, etc... and Luigi was very helpful in recommending some of his favorites. Best of all, it is not overly crowded with tourists like some of the more tourist-popular cities.... e.g., Sienna, Montepulciano, etc... The center of Cortona is just a short walk from the villa, very convenient. Though the uphill walk back to the villa after dinner and wine was sometimes a bit of a challenge :). Luigi, Nicoletta and Giuseppe are wonderful people who we enjoyed getting to know. Grazie mille!

A little bit of heaven right here on earth

The property in Cortona was beautiful! From the first point of contact last year to our depature, the communications were excellent. The photographs do not do it justice. This unique property had everything we wanted, complete privacy and a short walk to the wonderful hill town of Cortona. There are great shops and restaurants in the town. The home is perched up on the hill overlooking the town. All the amenities we needed were included at the property. The home is incredibly spacious and beautiful, yet very comfortable, like a home should be. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was great, especially with the temperatures nearing 100 while we were there. We took a dip in theserene pool nearly every day. The property is meticulously maintained. The owners were wonderful and kind. They helped arrange a chef for us one evening who was both an amazing and fun chef who clearly loves pleasing those whom he cooks for. We've stayed in some lovely places over the years, but Mulino A Vento is at the top of our list. We will return again some day!

Amazing House!!

Just I like to say thank you to Luigi and Nicoletta for let to us to be in one of the most beautiful house I stayed, I am sure is the most pretty and charming house in Cortona. The views are amazing, because the house is in the hill of a little mountain , and just 10 minutes walking of Cortona, for us walking every day to Cortona was a pleasure because all the trail is really enjoyable . Inside the house is very cozy and the decoration is with excellent taste and all is impecable, super clean, the linen in the beds were very good quality , and the bathrooms very pretty and the showers were working perfect. The house has different areas confortables and cozy for to be alone or for to be in a group, any corner is beautiful.. We were very sad for to leave the house, but we are sure that soon we will return. I am really recommend this beautiful house, for to be relax ,for to have a good time there, but with the convenience to be very close of the beautiful Cortona, who is full of cafes , little boutiques, and restaurantes. Thank you Luigi and Nicoletta for all the attentions you had with us, for helping to us with everything we needed, and for having been excellent hostess . See you soon Marcela Flowers

MULINOAVENTO - A GEM IN THE HEART OF TUSCANY

We spent 12 days at a most spectacular villa above Cortona. The views of Val di Chiana and Lake Trasimeno from Mulinoavento are magnificent, as is the view into Cortona. We were greeted by Luigi Toritti and were made to feel most welcome. Luigi and his parents, Nicoletta and Beppe are fantastic hosts. Nicoletta provided us with recommendations of her favorite restaurants. We needed at least another week's stay to enjoy them all. Walking into town for lunch and dinner was very convenient and provided us with great exercise. Mulinoavento is an exceptional property. The villa is beautifully appointed with all the modern conveniences and yet retaining its traditional Tuscan style. The grounds are beautifully maintained and great care has been given to provide for a most memorable stay. We took full advantage of Cortona's central location to visit various hill towns and wineries in Tuscany and Umbria. Wish we could have stayed for at least another two weeks. We will be dining at Nicolleta+Beppe's Trattoria in Portland at the end of month and know it will bring back fond memories of our stay at Mulinoavento.

Wonderful Villa

Mulino a Vento sits above Cortona with a magnificent vista over the val di chiana. The ancient house has been restored and equiped to comfortably house 3 couples. The pool is extra nice . Walk into town is doable, especially going down into town, and provides some exercise coming back. The owners and their son Luigi are very helpful. One of our party became ill and they arranged to have a doctor come to the house on short notice. Luigi accompanied me to the pharmacy to get prescription drug. This is a special place.

BEST PART OF ITALY!

Mulino a Vento is a FABULOUS 15th Century Tuscan home located in the hills of Cortona (updated with modern conveniences while maintaining old world charm)...yet only a few minute walk to the Village. The VIEW is spectacular! Staying there was the BEST part of visiting Italy, experiencing the Tuscan culture and enjoying the incredible local foods. Mulino a Vento is very spacious, private & IMMACULATE and the owner is readily available to assist with any requests, including recommending Chef (Ivan and helper, Francesco) who prepared the most incredible 5 course feast for us one evening! The pool is also an exceptional feature which provides a cool relief after a day of touring Tuscany or a busy day of visiting local shops in the village. Avignonesi Winery is only a short distance away (10 minutes via taxi service) and should not be missed. It's an organic vineyard with exquisite wines...but, be sure to sign up for their 4 course gourmet lunch which you'll find nothing short of superb! I can't possibly include everything into this short review....but will summarize by stating that if you truly want to enjoy Tuscany in the BEST and most beautiful home with the most helpful and accommodating owner, Mulino a Vento is the BEST place to stay!

Delightful Tuscan Villa in Cortona

We spent two lovely weeks here in this fabulous villa in Cortona. We were met on our arrival by Nicoletta, Guiseppe and Luigi who accompanied us to Mulino a Vento and showed us round the lovely house. It is tastefully decorated and in great condition throughout and has everything you need for a stay here. There are three lovely spacious bedrooms - two ensuite and one with its own (but separate) bathroom. My 9 year old daughter was amazed that she had a room with a dressing room and an ensuite bathroom! The Wi-Fi worked well which kept the children entertained when they weren’t jumping in and out of the lovely swimming pool. The grounds were lovely and Luigi keeps them very well maintained. The views from the property were very special indeed. We never got tired of looking at the view both during the day and at night with the lights twinkling in the valley below. We were star gazing most evenings as being at the top of the town, there is very little light pollution which allowed a good view – seeing the Milky Way and shooting stars! It is an easy 10 minute stroll into Cortona town centre which is full of cafes, restaurants, shops and piazzas to sit in with a coffee or drink and watch the World go by. We were lucky enough to be here at festival time and Nicoletta made sure we had a programme and recommended a couple of events that were happening that we and the children might like. We introduced the kids to some culture with the Tuscany orchestra, a Serbian violinist, a David Bowie tribute and thoroughly enjoyed some Michelin starred street food! Make sure to walk up to the Basilica di Santa Margharita and the Medici fortress at the very top of Cortona. It is a climb, but very well worth it. Cortona is a great place for day trips to places like Montepulciano, Pienza, Arezzo, Siena and Lake Trasimeno. This was our first ever visit to Tuscany, but it certainly won’t be our last and we very much hope to come back and stay at Mulino a Vento again.

The highlight of our trip!!

We spent two weeks in Mulino a Vento and it was the highlight of our six weeks holiday in Europe. Everything was perfect for our group of six adults and we were very happy. Nicoletta, Beppe and Luigi were always helpful and generous with their time and advice and they made us feel very welcome. We were greeted with a bottle of wine & chocolates on our first night!! The villa is perched high on the hill of Cortona, overlooking the valley and during the day you can see Lake Trasimeno and many small towns. Each night the lights in the valley sparkle in the darkness. The view is beautiful and we never tired of looking. Everything in the villa was extremely comfortable and soon became like our home away from home. It was only a ten minute walk into the centre of town where there are lots of restaurants, shops and lovely piazza's where you can sit or wander. We did quite a few easy day trips - Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, the Chianti, Florence, Assisi and Arezzo to name just some. We would all return to Mulino a Vento and Cortona in a heartbeat if we ever have the chance!!

Spectacular views, wonderful stay

We had a lovely vacation in this beautiful location, high in the hills of Cortona, near Lake Trasimeno, thanks to Nicoletta, Beppe, and Luigi. The home we stayed in was decorated in a charming and rustic manner with modern conveniences, and could not have been better located or more functional. The family could not have been more welcoming or generous to us during our week stay. Upon our arrival we were greeted with a bottle of local wine, chocolates, and plump, ripe strawberries. Rainy and cool weather prevented us from taking advantage of the beautiful grounds and built-in swimming pool, and unfortunately we were not able to make use of the stone patios and balconies, or outdoor furniture for meals or drinks. It was this weather, however, that made us all the more appreciative of the modern kitchen, the television with cable, and wireless internet connectivity. We were able to walk into town for delicious dinners and interesting shops, and the family was quick to recommend local restaurants and a private chef should we have desired one. It is very convenient to access the Autostrada from this location. This property is well situated for day trips to Montepulciano, Montalcino, Siena, Florence, and Orvieta, to name but a few. We very much hope to return in the future. Thank you to the Torriti family for making our stay so memorable.

A memorable month in Cortona

Two couples over 55 had a tremendous, relaxing, star-struck month staying at this villa just outside the ancient walls of Cortona. The villa itself is roomy, impeccably clean, and very comfortable for eating, sleeping, and relaxing as a couple or as a group. The front yard and pool area are manicured and magical for just 'chilling' -- sitting out there each night gazing at the stars above and the twinkling lights of the villages in the valley below and in the distance (e.g. Montepulciano) was something we looked forward to after 'cena' (dinner). Our walking distance into town was close enough to get our espresso in the a.m., shopping (great), and wonderful restaurants, but far enough that we had our own parking spot at the villa for use in visiting other villages on a daily basis. The walk into Cortona and maneuvering the steep Cortona streets was our exercise each day which helped us justify the volume of pasta, salamis, and wine we consumed !! You will feel like you hit the jackpot if you stay at Mulino A Vento. The additional treat is that you get to know the owners: Beppe, Nicoletta and their son Luigi who live just 3 minutes walk down the driveway toward the village. They were very welcoming and gave us great ideas to see the area and things to do that made our stay unique. If you stay here, be sure to attend the every-Thursday-night wine tasting and dinner sponsored by Molesini's in the main piazza..... a really fun night and a different host-restaurant each week. We also benefited from a walking tour of Cortona a few days after arriving (wear comfy support shoes!), and also a cooking class --- both of which Nicoletta can help you reserve. I could go on but you get the idea: stay @ Mulino A Vento !!

Talking about oneself is never easy, but certainly the love for our property leads us to do everything with great passion and dedication.
We have been having excellent relationships with many of our clients and friendship with some of them has became particularly beautiful and strong. Just as they have became part of our lives, we have became part of theirs. There have been many occasions to travel togheter or get a plane to cross the ocean just to celebrate a birthday.
So many unforgettable moments and great memories: even a restaurant in Oregon named " Nicoletta" , the name of my mother.

Why they chose this property

Villa Mulino a Vento is really unique: although it is located near the center of Cortona, it gives the chance to live in direct contact with nature. Peacefulness, a breathtaking view onto the valley, ease and relaxation leave always good memories of the days spent here and it is just as much of a pleasure for us to see how happy our clients are.
