A group of friends and I take an annual ski trip to a different location each year. The group has grown over the years and this house was large enough to accommodate us. Since I live nearby in Livingston, I coordinated and booked the trip. The communications from the property owners (Chris, Den and Kenney) was probably the best I've experienced through any VRBO property I've reserved. The check-in instructions were detailed and easy to follow, as well as instructions for trash removal and check out. Several folks changed their arrival to a day early and it was very easy to update my reservation and add another day. The house is a short walk downhill to the Pony Express Lift so it was very convenient to access the slopes. A little bit of a hill at the end of the day walking from Pony Express back to the house but it was easy. Interior was stunning and beautifully decorated, very clean. We didn't take advantage of the beautiful outdoor decks due to the snow and cold but many of us used the hot tub outside on the ground floor. If you come during ski season, you'll definitely need 4WD vehicles or chains. We received a ton of snow while we were there but none of us had issues and the plows were going continuously. We occasionally drove down the mountain to the Roxy grocery store to buy more food. I highly recommend this property. Would love to see it in the summer months to take advantage of the huge outdoor decks and seating areas.
If you want to have a home away from home for your next vacation, this is the property. We have been coming to Big Sky for years and it was great to bring a few families with us for a ski trip. We had three families and everyone had their own space. The house was well stocked in the kitchen, including two dishwashers! I would’ve never thought about that, but it was really useful. The large windows gave us amazing views the entire weekend too! It is fun to watch the groomers, watch the sunrise, and we even had a fox sighting!Thank you for a great ski weekend!
All 11 of us from age 17 to 81 had a wonderful time. Each person had a very special place to sleep and we all could gather in a number of beautiful rooms and the deck for magnificent views. This home is sitting on a very special piece of property overlooking the mountains. The high ceilings, massive beams, and cathedral-like windows is why this is titled "Magnificent Cathedral Home." Many of us hiked the trails and especially enjoyed all the wild flowers. The hot tub helped relax after the mountain hiking. The kitchen and grill were all well equipped for family breakfast and dinners. We were able to drive to Yellowstone National Park to tour for a day and another day to tour the Grand Tetons. At night on the deck, we could view the stars all across "Big Sky". We all were blessed to be together as a family and feel at home by the owners of this home. Chris was very good and very friendly about emailing answers to any questions we had.
This was a cool house. I did encounter things I haven’t at other houses.
This house was ski-in, ski-out. We were able to ski right to the front door. You have to ski on a road to achieve this.
This house is very unique. There is stone and wood with high ceilings. The copper tub bathroom was really cool. I was impressed how clean the house was.
Almost the entire backside is glass. The views are good. The temperature was finicky. I assume that was exacerbated by the uncharacteristically cold outside temperature. We never got the main floor above 65, and before texting with the owner on heating options, it was in the high 50s on the main floor and the loft and bedroom without windows were too hot.
One bedroom has no windows, the others have many, but no curtains. From the deck or hot tub you would be looking into the bedrooms. There were curtains on the back walls of the bathrooms providing enough privacy except for the main floor master bathroom, where the tub touches the huge side window on the deck and has no curtain. There was no shower curtains or doors in all but one bathroom.
There is no garage and you cant leave garbage bags outside. Trash stays inside till you bring it to the dumping area. It was a 15 - 20 minute trip to drop off garbage. You need to remove all garbage from the home, including at checkout.
We didn't use the deck but it is huge with a lot of seating.
There is no garage and no mudroom.
There was a fox that made several appearances.
The property is stunning. Vaulted ceilings for days. Great kitchen with plenty of room for multiple folks cooking / prepping. Great table space for everyone to eat and play the many games that we brought. Well stocked kitchen with plates/utensils/gadgets/cooking equipment. 2 dishwashers made it super helpful for cleanup.
Some minor issues to keep in mind. No working fireplaces. No window coverings on many windows and porch is wrap around so depending on time of year you might see things. lol. Some folks in lower level were too hot while others were too cold based on which room they were in. People in the loft and the downstairs den share the same main level bathroom [or share with those in the suites]. Great communication with owners. Appreciated all the detail. Thanks so much!
Beautiful home, very accomdating for all of us to gather on Thanksgiving and get 3 days of skiing in. Home is well stocked, beautiful gift basket upon arrival, beautiful views and gorgeous bathrooms. Bedding is all luxurious. Very happy, will be back!
Great layout for a large group with both individual private space and great meeting areas - large great room, kitchen, dining rooms, large deck, loft for the kids, and fire pit.
We took easy mornings cooking breakfast, catching up on email, and enjoying the wonderful morning air on the deck, hit the area attractions including hikes, rafting, zip lines, side-by-side ATVs, Big Sky Resort, Big Sky Center, Bozeman, and trips through Yellowstone park. Spent the evenings around the fire pit roasting marshmallow s’mores and watching the stars.
Absolutely no issues with the property as it was well maintained and as advertised.
Lots of wildlife around the property including a fox and a doe mule deer that passed through each morning and evening. Chipmunks galore and swallows nesting on the eves. Very quiet area except for the helicopter shuttling construction supplies to the top of Lone Mountain during the afternoons.
We will definitely return for another visit.
The property was amazing. Both rustic and elegant at the same time. Massive beams and columns that were quite impressive. Virtually every room had amazing views of the mountain and valley. The master suite and adjoining bathroom were also quite impressive. The other bedrooms with king-size beds also had amazing attached bathrooms. The only drawback was there were no lights over the vanities in the master bathroom. It made the application of make up someone difficult. There were multiple light switches in the house that we found no corresponding lights to. The property is also billed as a ski in/ski out home. However, it’s a bit of a walk down to the ski lift, and the access back to the house is a little bit difficult to access from the slopes and you still need to walk about 50 yards up the street to get to the property. Overall though, we were very pleased. One additional thing to note, Uber and Lyft do not operate routinely in big sky resort. You will either need a rental vehicle or other transportation plans to get around.
Where to start? This house is just as beautiful as the pictures, if not better. We used the lodge as the venue for a small marriage ceremony and it was so perfect. And the hosts were UNBELIEVABLY GREAT! My husband and I wanted to spend another night after our family left and the host was quick to respond and super accommodating. We loved every second of being there and would return tomorrow! Highly recommend the lodge for any kind of event like ours or even just a very nice place for your family to stay at. Can’t say enough about this place!
We enjoyed our time together in this beautiful home surrounded by gorgeous scenery. This location was very convenient to activities that we experienced during our stay.
Thank you to Chris and family for helping make our vacation special.

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Nice house but you need to know some things.
This is, architecturally, the most beautiful house ever. However:
1: There is no air conditioning. We were not aware of this. For 3 days of our stay, it was hot and uncomfortable.
2: House is built for form, not function. It does not work well to actually live in, even temporarily. Examples:
- The entire front wall is mostly made of glass, but there are no curtains except in baths. So for 3 of the master suites, the loft, and the den sleeping area, there is no bedroom privacy. You can’t change clothes in your bedroom without being fully exposed to the people on the deck (main level) (no curtains in bedrooms) or in the hot tub (basement level). The bathrooms have some curtains on the front wall, but not on the side glass, and the deck is wraparound; so you can’t take a bath or shower or change clothes even in the bathroom without being fully exposed.
- The guest bath literally has a wet-bath style shower. The shower has no shower curtain and no shower base on the floor. Water goes everywhere, including on your clothes and towel.
- The fireplaces have all been closed so they are decorative only.
- The sinks are on too-high vanities and are partly obscured with decorative rocks covering the faucet and piping. You can’t get your hands in there to wash hands very well.
- In the middle master suite downstairs, instead of using a regular shower curtain liner like they did in the upstairs master suite, they got a huge sheet of poly, cut it with scissors, and hung that up. Nasty.
- Too much decor. It’s hard to use surfaces in the bedrooms and baths bc of all the decor everywhere.
Also: Main level floor had lots of standing water on it when we checked in. Safety hazard.
My bedroom had someone else’s old sock in it. Toilet downstairs wouldn’t flush if you used the sink, even with only liquid in toilet.
Grill was so dirty that it started a grease fire when we started it up.
Water damage on walls has been hidden with decor instead of repaired.
Log veneer had not been repaired where electrical work was done in staircase.
Gravel driveway. No landscaping or lawn at basement level where hot tub was.
Squirrel ran out of house when we checked in. Bats or squirrels are in the top of the main level ceiling/trusses and were making noise.
No rug pad or tape in great room. Huge, thin rug bunched up badly; safety hazard.
Kitchen is well-appointed. House is beautiful & luxurious. But it needs to be better managed.
Grandparents, three kids, spouses and nine grandchildren for the first family get-together in three years. Fantastic views, well-appointed house with space for all.
We had a wonderful visit on Big Sky. The location and views from the house are amazing. The house handled our group of 18 very well. We enjoyed the fire pit on cool nights with the whole family. The owners and house manager were very responsive and made sure any little issue we had was immediately addressed. I highly recommend this house and Big Sky for a great vacation.
This was the perfect space to spend a few days to relax and unwind. It snowed during our stay which made our time here even more magical. Seeing the the snow capped mountains and wildlife was just what we needed!
This house was great for a large group. The views were some of the prettiest we’ve ever seen. The owners were quick to respond. Great experience.

Why they chose this property
Location, views, skiing, golfing, pristine mountains and rivers. Exceptional Really! About Our Home and Big Sky Ski and Golf Resort: You may want to rent a vehicle in Bozeman at the airport where you land. (There are also car services and taxis that will take you to Big Sky but ideally a vehicle is the most convenient and will allow you the freedom to explore the area.)
The mountain views from our home are exceptional and our home is ideally set at the top of the mountain in the center of the ski resort. The Pony Express Ski lift is approximately 150 yards from our front door.
Big Sky Village is very quaint and is located at the bottom of the mountain. Here you will find a few main street and a few groceries stores, a theater and a 10 to 14 shops in Big Sky. There are also some wonderful restaurants along the river.
There is also the much larger town of Bozeman nearby where you can shop the antiques or stock up at Costco's (which we recommend you do on your way out from the airport) however, everything you really need you will be able to find right in Big Sky so there really is no reason to venture out to far unless you want to visit the wonders of Yellowstone Park (30 minutes away) or head down the canyon just to take in the scenery or perhaps dine at a lovely restaurant along the river.
We will be sure to send over our Big Sky Highlights and list the places not to be missed during your stay as we truly enjoy our location and relish the opportunity of sharing it and all of its wonderful discoveries’ with others.
Your more then welcome at any time :)
