Awesome location, very secluded & loved the lake access, perfect for our kayaks & so easy to get to! We loved this place & will be returning soon!! Thank you Steve for sharing your home with us and allowing for a relaxing vacation!!
The location was a perfect getaway as it was a peaceful setting next to the lake with easy access to state lands with nearby walking trails. The communication from the owner was excellent from my initial inquiry until the time we left the property. We were extremely thankful for the courtesy shown us by the owners and will certainly return to the property again the next time we visit the area. It was a great experience.
This was the perfect spot to hideaway quite cozy !! Lost power d/t storm manager checked on us brought more lanterns! Games played by candle lantern lights just perfect birthday weekend! Thank you!
This was our 2nd time staying here and we absolutely love the place. We caught 6 different species of fish, got some wonderful bird photos. We took our boat and had a great time exploring around. We fished after dark with a campfire and there was a live band next door, (not sure what event was going on?) it was AWESOME! We met some local people in our adventures, and they were so kind. We plan on going back next year.
Family had a blast. Cabin is clean, property is great, everything is easily accessible, Sharon was very nice and accommodating. Only good things to say.
Had an amazing time! The property is private and plenty of room for your dog to roam. Yet the owner is right next door in case you need them or have any questions. The kids (age 17) were able to pitch a tent on the sand by the water and sleep down there for a night. Thank you for an amazing couple nights. We will be coming back.
We so enjoyed our week stay! Never been so close to deer ♥️ Sharon was fantastic! Definitely recommend and hope to go back soon and definitely next year!
Great little camp house with a path to the lake. Super clean, well stocked. Two fire pits (one by the house, one by the water) Perfect for two or 3 people. They even had a garage to hang out in, in case of rain. Loved my stay & the owner is super nice & responsive.
Very cute place just enough space for me and my husband. Very clean and owner responds to any questions we had quickly. You can drive or walk down to the water. It is very quiet and peaceful. Loved it even when it rained
Our stay at Red Door Cabin during May was great. The cabin is clean, with obvious recent and on-going updates. The unpredictable cold weather hampered a couple plans but we are thankful to Sharon for checking on us and assuring our comfort. We loved the screened-in porch and lake view, perfect for morning coffee and bird watching. We were very happy that our little dachshund was allowed to be with us and thank Steve for being so responsive to our concerns as well. This cute little cabin on Hinckley Lake served us well as we visited family in the area and we would love to return again.

Great location
This property was located right by the camp I was volunteering at. I needed a 4 night booking. The online pictures looked good. I appreciated the linens and towels, not everyone does that. One really big issue was that it seemed like everything was sprayed w fabric refresher. . Not what I expected at all. Additionally, the laundry was washed in extremely strong smelling laundry detergent. I ended up taking my linens and towels to the laundromat because of the overwhelming chemicals and scents. A more sensitive skin type detergent would be a smart choice. I kept the windows open and the fans on to dissipate the fabric refresher saturation. The interior could use a more thorough vacuuming all throughout. My phone fell into the couch cushions and the crumbs and the amount of debris was surprising. I was disappointed the couch was advertised as a “pull out” but in truth was not. Extra blankets would have been a great addition as it was chilly overnight and I wasn’t comfortable running the electric heater unattended. The lake access was great. We swam w friends a couple of times.
All in all the proximity to my camp made the price worth it
fabric refreshed
My husband and I (and our small dog) have stayed at Red Door twice now and really enjoyed our stays. It’s in a nice private spot without feeling isolated, and the big yard is great for lounging in the sun, playing lawn games, and enjoying nightly fires. We also love that the garage is available for use so we could keep our outdoor gear in there. In addition to the big yard at the camp, there’s also quite a bit of space down at the beach, with terrain varying from grass to sand to rocks. One thing we’ve found during both stays is that there is a lot of broken glass around the beach, particularly in the grass and sand, so watch your feet and where you’re putting your picnic blankets down. The camp itself is small and rustic, but cozy and functional. The kitchen has all the basic tools needed for prepping meals but be prepared to bring all of your own consumables, including condiments, paper products/wraps/baggies, hand/dish soap, etc. I was pleased to see the bathroom has been remodeled since our last visit, and the provided linens are nice. Overall we’ve had a very relaxing couple of vacations here and would definitely consider returning again.
felt a little deceived but still ok. When life thrws you lemons, make lemonade
Overall, our stay was pleasant. Minor things go wrong everyday in life like running out of propane supply to the stove for morning coffee, bright lights coming on during a lovely pit fire, but all these annoyances were handled immediately and corrected when announced. Thank you Steve and Sharon. you were there when we needed you. What wasnt appreciated was the 300' of lakefront. Unfortunately we were not made aware that we only had access to 25% of it. And we were made aware immediately upon our arrival to the lakefront when we were followed by one of 4 homeowners to the lake and was made clear that they "pay" for access to the other 75% as we should stay to the right of the "red rocks" strategically arranged on the beach as to "allow" us this space. Also, the waterfront in "our" area is not shown in the VRBO picture of the lakefront as it is to the right of the trees and overgrown with weeds. The 4 homeowners have the mooring rights to the left of the pic so if you do have a boat, it was made clear that you must keep the Red Door's camp area. #1 peeve and turn off. However, we made our stay amazing regardless, seeing that we found other amazing lakes and beechfronts with no restrictions. Great hiking and biking. Fantastic restaurant in Rome, Vine & Fig, if you dont mind travelling the half hour for good food. Still, good experience, Thank you Steve for your hospitality and Sharon for your incredible spunk in getting things done when needed. The queen bed should be replaced

Not exactly as listed
Good points:
1. The cabin is clean.
2. Sharon, the property manager, was excellent. She was informative when we arrived, but didn’t bother us all week.
3. It’s a pretty quiet location.
4. Fire pits are well built and camp wood is available.
5. Very nice gas grill! Charcoal grill also available.
6. The garage is nice for storing bikes and stuff you don’t want to drag around.
7. Towels, linens, basic kitchen supplies were plentiful and of good quality.
8. Beds and furniture were comfortable.
On the downside:
1. The cabin is technically lake front, and you can see the reservoir through the trees from the cabin, but this is not a cabin on a lake. If you have trouble walking and you don’t have a vehicle that can tolerate a little off road driving, you may want to re-consider.
2. There is nothing going on within 20 minutes drive of the cabin. No restaurants, no bike paths, no great fishing, no organized entertainment.
3. Do not mistake this for a fishing cabin just because it’s on a reservoir. We couldn’t attract a single nibble from shore or from the canoe. We tried all of our lures and live bait and nothing. We decided to drive 1:45 hours to Oswego and we caught our limit of Salmon in a few hours.
4. Besides the canoe, there are no boats available for rent on the reservoir. Bring your own or be happy with the canoe for $20 a day.
5. Something lives in the ceiling over the back porch. It is especially noisy at night.
6. Neighbors like fireworks.
We went to Ny to visit family and be leaf peepers! It was a great time! The red door camp was absolutely lovely! We spent most of our down time on the porch watching the leaves fall. The walk to the reservoir was a bit of a trek (hill) but so worth it. Our dog who is a spoiled little girl didn’t want to leave and neither did we! Thank you so much!

Short
It was fine but we had to leave early due to personal issues. Wads rainy and dreary while there and if it had been sunny, the experience would have been better. Was not what we were expecting from the pictures shown.
Had a great time with my 5 year old boy. Steve was great and the place was as advertised. We caught 10 small mouth bass right from shore (top water since water was cooler). We hiked a few different trails and cooked on the grill a couple times. Smores at night!
Perfect little get away.
Booking was fast and easy. We had a relaxing time and enjoyed exploring Old Forge and surrounding areas. Steve, our host, was always quick to respond and even added a gas grill! Sharon the property manager would check on our stay and responded quickly when we had a problem with a light. Would stay here again.
Cabin and property very spacious. Grill and 2 fire pits. Kyack a for rent. Very close to lake. Would recommend.
