FAQS:

Q: Can we check in early or check out late?
A: It depends. Check-in is at 3 p.m. Ask me, and we will do our best to let you know as soon as it is available. We and our cleaning staff have strict protocols to follow, and they can only sometimes have the house ready before 3 p.m.

Q: Is there WiFi, and is it any good?
A: Yes, and yes! We upgraded our router in 2022. We've had many guests stay and "work from home," students complete their coursework from the cabin without a single complaint.

Q: Do we have cable TV?
A: No, not anymore. We have a smart TV with streaming services.

Q: Do we provide firewood for campfires?
A: There is unused firewood on pallets in the backyard; there is a limited amount, so you may need to buy some. You can purchase firewood at several local convenience stores and grocery stores for $5-6 per bundle if needed. You may also see signs on the drive-up to buy firewood at various residences. There are strict regulations against transporting firewood from other areas, so please don't do that. Previous guests often leave unused firewood behind, so you might get lucky and not need to purchase any. We also don't provide matches/lighters.

Q: Is the water safe to drink?
A: Yes! We are on well water that has an Aquasana whole-house filter system. So it is safe to drink and cook with. There is both hot and cold water. The faucet outside is not filtered.

Q: Do I have to clean up before I check out?
A: If you can, please wash and put away dishes, silverware, and utensils. Otherwise, we will take care of it. Don't worry about making the bed; we're replacing the linens anyway. Just put the used sheets and pillowcases on the floor in front of the bed. Please lock the door.

Q: Why is the cleaning fee so expensive?
A: It takes a while to change the linen, wash bedding, restock, mop, etc. We try to pay our cleaning crew a livable wage and add in the expense of laundry and common items we supply, and it adds up very quickly. We don't make or attempt to profit from the cleaning expense.

Q: Is it a contactless check-in?
A: Yes, it is self-check-in and check-out. You will receive a code to access the house. Please hold down the # till you hear locked when you leave. It's that simple!

Q: Can I swim in the lake? Is there a beach?
A: There is a beach by the park within walking distance. Head to City Beach in Clear Lake or State Beach for a true sandy beach about six miles from the house.

Q: Does the cabin have good heat?
A: Yes, it does! We recently upgraded to a mini-split heater/AC unit. A controller on the wall controls the heating and cooling. Please don't unplug them.

Q: Is there enough room to park a boat/trailer?
A: Yes! The parking area is large enough for several vehicles. If you have a trailer, you must back it in the driveway. The easiest way to do this is to drive up 245th St, turn left, get straight, and then back it up to the driveway. Please do not drive in the neighbor's yard. You can drive on mine while backing the trailer.

Q: Is there a boat landing?
A: No, however, there is a public boat launch about a mile away. You can launch your boat there.

Q: What kind of fish are in Clear Lake?
A: Musky, panfish, Bass, Northern Pike, and Walleye.

Q: Where can we rent a boat or canoe/kayak rentals?
A: Clear Lake Adventure Rentals or Clear Lake Boats are less than six miles away.

Q: Are there hiking trails nearby?
A: A bike/walking path goes around Clear Lake.

Q: Are there Snowmobile trails close by?
A: Yes. Trail access is just a block away on the lake.

Q: Can I ride my golf cart/UTV around?
A: Yes, but you must have a Ventura and Clear Lake permit. There are other rules you must follow. Contact Clear Lake Police at 641-357-2186.

Q: Are there any good places to eat?
A: Of course! We can't give recommendations but suggest you check out the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce site for local dining options.

If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them!
