Hood, this spacious and cozy custom built home sits on 2.5 private acres that make for a perfect mountain getaway. Facing south on a hilltop, the house gets a lot of light yet it is surrounded by a thick cedar and fir forest. The partially covered 500 square foot wraparound deck and huge picture window in the living room offer an amazing view of Hunchback Mountain. On clear evenings you will enjoy gazing at the star-filled sky from our new Tiger River Sumatran hot tub. The hot tub is conveniently located just steps away from the master bedroom but is also easily accessible from the wraparound deck. Both bedrooms have been outfitted with your comfort in mind and the kitchen is fully equipped for gourmet meals. We have outfitted the house with your relaxation and comfort in mind. Each bedroom has luxurious linens and is adjacent to its own full bath. The master bedroom has a Sealy Serta king size bed and is just steps away from the hot tub. The kitchen is fully stocked for all your gourmet cooking needs. We love to cook ourselves, so we promise to always keep the knives sharpened! There is also a charcoal grill for cooking on the deck or for the more adventurous, the firepit on the west side of the property. The house is heated with a wonderfully efficient wood stove that adds so much to the coziness of the place. We provide a free wireless Internet connection, a landline phone, and an iPod player. We will also provide you with a list of our favorite restaurants in the area as well as suggestions for hiking, biking, and skiing.

Built with love and with trees milled from the property, this modern home contains so much mountain charm. When you are not out playing on the mountain, we hope you will enjoy walking around the property and checking out the natural wonders and the pieces of sculpture that are nestled amongst the ferns and the cedars. We hope you experience all the pleasures of the 'Hilltop Hideaway!' STR370-01

Quiet mountain getaway

This was our second time to stay at Hilltop Hideaway. We returned because of the great layout of the cabin, the spaciousness and the location. It was just a quick 30 minutes up to Mount Hood Meadows and to Timberline for a couple days of skiing. We had what we needed to make meals at home and the cabin was cozy for board games and puzzles. The hot tub is fantastic! The owner was super responsive for any questions I had. Overall we had a lovely and peaceful stay making great family memories!

Wish we had more time there

This is a great place to stay. It is very quiet at night (though you can hear a bit of road noise during the day). It is close to some wonderful spots, and an easy drive to Portland. Loved it!

Back Porch Sittin

We enjoyed the solitude and serenity of this location. Even though we had rain, it was delightful to sit on the porch and enjoy the ambience. Everything was well maintained and convenient. We wish we could stay longer.

Great Mountain Cabin

The cabin was well equipped, comfortable & private. The view of Hunchback Mountain from the large picture window in the living room was outstanding. A new shower curtain would be nice. The wood stove provided warmth & ambiance. The location is excellent for access to hiking trails.

This house feels like a hug of nature.

Out of the way but easy to get to. The views from the deck are gorgeous! The area has so many trails to keep you out and active. Down the road is the Zig Zag Cafe. We loved the food and service. The kitchen is well stocked and easy to use. The wood stove heat was a new experience for us and we loved it. Host is very responsive. Could not have picked a better place!

Lovely home base for exploring Mt Hood in the summer

Exactly as described online, this worked well for us. Steep driveway, plenty of forest to walk the dog in, lovely deck. Fans worked great even when it was hot outside, wood stove definitely warmed things up at night. Washer is super loud so don't start laundry before a nap, LOL, but that's about it!

Nice quiet cabin

Very cozy cabin that was off the beaten path that made for a nice get away weekend for my wife I for our 10 year anniversary. Wood stove provided plenty of heat. The amenities were sufficient for the two of us. Definitely have four wheel drive or traction if you go in winter the drive way gets a little steep with a hard turn to the cabin. Would totally recommend it to anyone and would go back with our two boys to enjoy some mountain snow for a weekend.

A great human experience…

Got to the property late (10pm) only to find it was double-booked. Accidents happen, right? Contacted the owner who actually returned my call at almost 11 pm! She called and found a nearby motel which she paid for, checked to make sure. I arrived and had no trouble with check in and refunded my fees as well. Anne, you were great and thank you for going above and beyond to take care of me after i had finished a terrible shift, only to find myself out of town, In Unfamiliar area and suddenly no place to stay… faith in humanity restored! Oh, and sorry to the people I woke up in the middle of the night😳.

Love this Cabin

This was our third stay at this cabin and we always enjoy ourselves. It's the perfect spot to just get away and relax while taking in the scenery. The kitchen is by far the best stocked kitchen we've ever experienced when it comes to renting a cabin for the weekend.

Cozy winter getaway

This cabin was exactly what we were looking for! We took our children (3 and 7 years old) up to the mountain. We wanted to be close to the ski/sledding areas, have two bedrooms for better sleeping arrangements, and have a hot tub to warmup after playing in the snow. This place checked all of the boxes! It’s spacious with plenty of room to lounge. The wood fireplace kept the house warm and cozy. If you want to watch anything, make sure to bring your own DVDs; for board games I suggest bringing your own (games had some missing pieces). I personally loved that there wasn’t a TV in the main living area, but instead we could listen to music and read together peacefully. We had a wonderful time here making winter memories! Thank you!

The perfect getaway

My daughters and I wanted a place to just relax and get away from it all. Hilltop Hideaway did the job perfectly. We played cards and Yahtzee by the fire, soaked in the hot tub under the night sky and in the early hours , drank coffee under the heated lamp on the covered porch area, enjoyed our first snow fall of the season ,and slept so well in the comfy beds. Great Kitchen! Great views ! We will definitely be coming back. Thanks so much !!!

Pacific Northwest trip

Great spot to stay outside Portland and close to everything we wanted to see. We drove the Columbia River Gorge and spent time in Hood River while getting some hiking in. Hot tub was relaxing at the end of the day and remoteness of this cabin was perfect.

About the host

Host profile image
We are a creative couple, inspired by natural beauty. We live in Portland but spend as much time on the mountain as we can. We love to hike, bike, kayak, ski, cook, and entertain friends and family. We love our Hilltop Hideaway for doing all these activities and more!

Why they chose this property

We have been renting a cabin on Mt. Hood in the winter for cross country skiing for fifteen years. Then, in 2008, we rented a place in the summer and we were hooked. We fully understood how magical Mt. Hood is and how much it has to offer(skiing, hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing, golfing, biking) in every season. We started looking for a place in 2009 and quickly found the Hilltop Hideaway. We knew almost immediately that it was the place for us. It is secluded and private but close to good restaurants and stores. It has a fantastic view of Hunchback Mountain. The house was lovingly built by the former owners with wood milled from the property. It is well designed and just feels good. We are instantly relaxed the minute we arrive.
