*On March 14, 2012, the Trust for Public Land (TPL) announced negotiations to acquire the Ocean Meadows Golf Course. After escrow closed, the land was transferred to UCSB’s Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration. As stated on the TPL website:
“The Trust for Public Land is working alongside the California State Coastal Conservancy and the University of California at Santa Barbara to restore the Devereux Slough to its natural splendor.
Located at the eastern gateway to the Gaviota Coast, Ocean Meadows is the final acquisition in an open-space strategy known as the Joint Proposal that will link more than 600 acres of land together for people and wildlife to use and enjoy.”
