Perfect Stay!

We used this home for a girls trip. The house was perfect and the views were amazing. Dollar General is a short drive down the road and there are 3-4 restaurants close by that we frequented. Note that DoorDash does not deliver to this address, but that didn’t impact the trip for us. We had a great time and will be renting again if available for our next trip.

Family Vacay

Hunker Down was a perfect home away from home for our family vacation! There was plenty of room for the 8 adults &.a toddler. Great location on the beach & a beautiful back deck for drinking coffee, reading & relaxing! We will be back!

Hunker Down is the Perfect Name!

Well built, wonderful home with beautiful wood work, and plenty of space! The owners obviously care about their guests, as everything you could need is available. We’ve stayed in many homes in this area over the years, I can’t think of one we’ve enjoyed more!

Good stay

Great location. Comfy beds and seating. The house was well equipped. We cooked most meals in and had everything we needed (except a biscuit cutter, which I’ve never found in a rental kitchen). Most appliances are on the newer side. Key box is on the center pillar under the porch, not where our instructions said we’d find it. Housekeeping could do a little better job. The thermostat is higher tech and difficult to adjust. We’d certainly stay here again, preferably without a hurricane next time.

Needs Tender Love and Care

This house has an awesome location with a beautiful back deck, however too many problems. There are 4 beds in the great room...WHY? It would be nice to have that actually be a room, not just 4 beds in the kitchen. In addition, the kitchen is just a miss-match of used old stuff. The pizza cutter has a nut holding the circular knife on. The whole place needed to be wiped down - drink marks and dirt on the table and counters, burrs in the rugs, refrigerator and stove had food on them. The freezer wouldn't close so for the first 1 1/2 days we were without a working freezer. This house was really a disappointment; it needs tender love and care!

Cute beach house & beautiful beach

The house is cute, needs some updating though. The toilet upstairs was broken, the freezer drawer would not open except maybe 3-4in. Therefore we couldn’t use it at all, no ice for the time there. The washer leaked the first time I used it and the dryer completely shut down. It had a note on the dryer door stating to run it for 2 cycles. I would have loved one cycle. The doors leading to the back deck are not working properly. One set is tied off with a large heavy basket sitting in front of it. The other set of doors has 1 door that works. Both sets of doors have signs taped to them stating “Do not use, parts have been ordered”. Personally I think this is a hazard and should be dealt with immediately. Should there be a fire, you might not be able to exit the house because of the doors being blocked & not working. The kitchen counter is need of replacing, a large burn spot with Formica missing. I scrubbed the microwave, oven, refrigerator & counters because they were filthy. The cabinets need a good cleaning too.

Coastal shabby chic home

The positives first: beachy decor with cozy, classic wood pieces and unique touches to the home and comfortable beds, many updates throughout the home, steps from the sand with a nice deck, plenty of parking, plenty of beds for multiple guests, three full bathrooms, and everything you need related to linens and kitchen supplies and newer large appliances (and washer and dryer) Cons: kitchen countertops need to be replaced, freezer door sticks and is hard to pull in and out, fridge doors dirty, no coffeemaker (only a Keurig, so plan accordingly), blender needs to be replaced, lockbox very difficult to find and subsequently open and close (make sure you find the right one upon check in, there are multiple around the house), there are only TWO TVs in the entire home, so again, plan accordingly (especially if you have kids and teens who depend on TVs for gaming and streaming), most of the windows (and there are a ton of them) are uncovered, so be comfortable with being exposed and bright sunshine early in the morning (hope no one needs total darkness to sleep in!), and last but certainly not least, the air conditioner is not controllable downstairs, which is where the kitchen/living area/two master bedrooms are located—it’s a thermostat that can’t be adjusted (upstairs can be and was heavenly) so when it’s summer during a heat wave (and heat advisories in place outside), it would be amazing to go below 74°! I don’t know about you, but I’m a woman of a certain age and require cold temps to sleep and not sweat more than I already do—getting out of the shower to start sweating immediately is not my idea of a vacation home. Though Vacasa was responsive to my ongoing feedback during my trip, I requested on the first day that the thermostat be adjusted—it never was because they said they could never reach the operations manager. This detracted from my stay, and unfortunately, not only would I not stay here again because of it (albeit Vacasa’s failing), I will not book with Vacasa again. I am giving three stars because the house itself was fine, though there are some needed upgrades, not to mention the proximity to the beach, but everyone who stayed downstairs, which was the majority of my party, sweated through a week of stuffy, sweaty sleeping and had to go outside to appreciate the “coolness” of the inside.
