About this property

Woodsy/modern cabin, BIG VIEWS, firepit, close hikes, WIFI, 12 min to BR,

Hi! We're A&B Mountain Properties (Alison and Brad)!! Our cabin is about 12 minutes west of Main Street BR, spacious, and has amazing layered mountain views. We love our family business and there are no chores at check-out, so you can relax!

Our home is also close to Westglow, less than 5 minutes to the BRP/Price Lake/Moses Cone, and .3 mile to the Asutsi trailhead which connects you to ALL east side trails of Grandfather Mountain and is the only access point for these trails in winter.

Like our other property, Mountain Flower Hideaway, it is a beautiful, amenity-rich cabin that provides guests both seclusion and a fabulous location close to Blowing Rock, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone and all of the treasures of the High Country. The long-range, layered views are stunning, daily sunrises are unbelievable, and the property boasts ample parking for guests and tons of outdoor space for stargazing, mountain storm watching, fires in the fire pit, grilling, and walks. The inside is no less impressive. The first level is comprised of a bedroom with a queen bed and electric color-changing fireplace. The spacious bedroom has ample closet and dresser space. The laundry room is connected to this bedroom. There is also a full bath (with tub and shower) on the first level. As for the rest of this level, there is a 75" television, ample seating for your party, as well as a library/daybed area that can be closed off with a fabric curtain for extra privacy (particularly if someone wishes to sleep in that area).

Upstairs is where the kitchen and dining areas are located, as well as another full bathroom and two more bedrooms. The kitchen is a cook's dream! It is well-appointed with anything that guests could need and is pleasing to the eye with handmade counters and cabinets, as well as stainless steel appliances. We also provide you with our s'mores kit and delicious coffee. The dining area easily seats six and there is additional seating on this level to meet your needs. Near the kitchen and dining areas is a wood stove that is not intended for guest use. As mentioned, there is also a full bathroom on this level and two more lovely bedrooms. One bedroom has a full bed and the other has a queen bed. Both bedrooms have ample closet and dresser space, as well as natural light. Each bedroom has electric baseboard heat and ceiling fans.

The cabin has been lovingly (and extensively) renovated, cared for, and decorated by us. Guests will be delighted with the art, books, and personal touches that are located throughout the home. We personally handle every aspect of our cabin business, so you can be sure that the quality is excellent at every step of your stay. We look forward to hosting you during your stay at the Mountain Lookout Lodge.

*****Mountain weather is unpredictable and surfaces/roads can become snowy or icy very quickly. Also, because mountain roads are windy and at higher elevations, 4WD/AWD is recommended for traveling in the region during late Fall/Winter. We are not responsible for damage that occurs to guest vehicles/property.*****

Most amazing family Christmas trip

We absolutely loved our stay! The host was extremely welcoming. Even during the devastation of Helene we wouldn’t think of messaging to check on our reservation and in fact had came up with a backup plan for our kids Christmas trip. But she reached out and said she would refund our entire trip if we chose not to come but that their house and personal home we untouched and if we still wanted to come, they were more than happy to have us. We decided to go and so glad we did. The house is absolutely beautiful, in fact I want that kitchen in our new house the location is great, 15 minutes from downtown Blowing Rock. We have 5 kids (teens & preteeens) and had plenty of space. We didn’t get to use the fire pit bc it snowed and the wind was blowing like crazy but we definitely plan to come back and stay with her again! We ride our Harley on a lot of over night trips and stay in a lot of VRBO/AirB&B and this was by far our favorite. This house has everything you could possibly need to cook and I loved her dishes. We had breakfast at the house 2 out of the 3 mornings. We also loved the limited cell service and no wifi!!! It’s nice to disconnect and this is the perfect place to unwind!!

Perfect Mountain Getaway

The property had a large porch to enjoy the mountain views. The firepit was a great place to relax after the days adventures. It is beautifully decorated and was close to both Boone and Blowing Rock but far enough away to feel secluded. The beds were the most comfortable of any VRBO we ever rented. The owners were very quick with communication and great to work with. We will DEFINITELY be back!

10/10 pick

We chose this place for a long weekend getaway. Pics did not do it justice. It has everything needed and is close enough to Blowing Rock but far enough to avoid the crowds and traffic. We will definitely be booking this unit again very soon.

About the host

Hosted by Brad and Alison Gates

Host profile image
We are Brad and Alison! We live in Blowing Rock, are active in our community, are proud parents of a little boy and two old dogs, and we love hosting folks at our cabins. When it comes to cabins, we do it all and we're awfully proud of it - renovation, cleaning, maintenance, guest management, and every other aspect that makes staying with us a special experience. We are detail-oriented and living our own dream - y'all come see us!

Why they chose this property

This property is just a dream! It is a spacious cabin, complete with gorgeous grounds and warm, inviting rooms. The views will enchant you and there is nothing like watching a rainstorm or heavy snowfall from the many windows throughout the home. The cabin is well-suited for adult travelers or families with children. There is plenty of space to spread out in this cabin, three large bedrooms, a daybed/library, and wonderful kitchen, living, and dining spaces for cooking and making merry. We love how close this gem is to Grandfather Mountain, Asutsi trail (which will get you to all eastside Grandfather trails - Tanawha, Cragway, and Nuwati in ALL seasons), Bass Lake, Price Lake, and many other treasures along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

What makes this property unique

Because we live only minutes away and on a full-time basis, we are able to assist guests quickly with any issue or question that might arise. We also have NO chores for you at check-out :) This is a benefit that most rentals cannot offer because they are managed by property rental companies or out-of-town owners rather than local individuals. We are also proud to offer personalized advice to travelers about local attractions and events, hikes, and activities suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
