About this property

Charming log cabin for peaceful mountain getaway!

Our cabin is conveniently located just off the Peak to Peak Highway, Route 119, midway between the fun, gambling town of Black Hawk and the town of Nederland, gateway to the Indian Peaks wilderness, in the quiet mountain neighborhood of Meadowlake Mountain Acres. Located on almost two acres, Aspen Meadows has a geological rock formation at the rear of the property, where, after an easy hike up the pathway, you are treated to an almost 360 degree view of the surrounding mountain peaks, including the Continental Divide.

Cabin Features: Aspen Meadows' open floor plan is bright and cheery with large windows and easy communication between the living room, dining room and kitchen. A den/sunroom off the living room is another gathering place and can be closed off to serve as an additional bedroom with the comfy sofa that folds out to a full-size bed for one or two extra guests. A wood burning fireplace in the living room and a wood stove in the dining room will keep your family warm and cozy, (wood is provided). The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to whip up delicious meals, including staples and spices. (Nederland's B&F Supermarket is minutes away for convenient stocking up.)

The master bedroom has a comfy queen-size bed, an en-suite bathroom and french doors which open onto a private deck. The second bedroom also has a queen size bed and the kids' bedroom is equipped with a bunk bed and two twin beds. There is a folding twin bed stored in the kids' room closet for extra bedding.

More Good Stuff: In addition, there is a full bathroom near the kitchen and a washer and dryer for your use. On the main deck in the front of the cabin, there is a gas grill, along with plenty of seating, and the crisp, delicious mountain air abounds! Our cabin has a flat screen TV, a DVD/VHS player, an extensive movie library, an IPod dock, an additional TV with a built in DVD/VHS player and plenty of books and board games to enjoy while on vacation. Kick back, relax and enjoy the peace!

Pets are welcome at Aspen Meadows with an additional fee and security deposit. Although the streets leading up to the easily accessed and flat driveway of the cabin are quickly plowed after snowfall by the county, 4WD is still recommended throughout the Winter.

So Many Things to Do!: The property is one mile from the entrance of Golden Gate Canyon State Park and within easy driving distance to fabulous hiking, biking, fishing, sight-seeing, skiing, gambling in the mining town of Black Hawk, and so much more. Vacationers are within walking distance to the Gilpin County Library with free computers and internet access, and three miles down the highway is the first class Gilpin Community Center. Our Center offers an indoor track, lap & activity pools, basketball & volleyball courts, dance & fitness studio, cardio equipment, weight room, hiking trail, art studio, teen room with pool, ping pong and air hockey tables, meeting rooms, lounge, free WI-FI, seasonal events and more, all available to visitors for a small fee!

Enjoyed stay but. . .

As a previous renter stated there was a definite smell of pet urine and carpets were dirty. Kitchen was well stocked and layout was good. Would stay here again but only if carpets were all replaced and kept clean.

Bad neighbors

Next door is a car junkyard. Big barking dogs, young men yelling profanities. The property itself has a lovely lot. House is rustic tending toward needing some work. Carpet areas dark with dirt. Rugs in living room very pungent with dog pee. Fireplace grill broken and full of ash. Sheets on bed were clean, but over blankets and comforters haven't been washed in awhile. Nicely appointed kitchen and baths. This home is at very high altitude. Even family members from Denver were affected. We couldn't find the energy to do much. But being together in one place was enjoyable. We run an Arbnb in the Phoenix area.. So we know how much effort it takes to make a home away from home. This host I assume is contracting with a second party to do the general turn over.. We usually leave a more positive review when we travel, but the owners need to know what is going on.

Great Thanksgiving Away

Since we couldn’t be with family for Thanksgiving, this cozy cabin was the next best thing. Beautiful hiking in the state park minutes away and less than an hour drive to Rocky Mountain National Park. The wood burning stove was amazing and kept us nice and warm.

A Great Getaway

Such a beautiful property and so close to some amazing hiking. We didn’t realize just how close this place is to Golden Gate Canyon State Park so it was a great “accident” when we realized it’s less than a mile away. We ended up hiking over 40 miles in the park and loved exploring all over. It’s also between two cute towns that are worth checking out, Nederland and Black Hawk. Definitely would love to come back to spend more time to relax.

Amazing cabin in the middle of mountains

The house was impecable, and honestly, the photos Don’t do justice to the cabin. It’s extremely cozy and it has everything that you might need. We celebrated my birthday and it was amazing cabin for it. Viveca has a binder with all the information that anyone could need, and a basket with more pamphlets with info on many things. This was super helpful!! The rock mountain in the backyard was our favorite, and the backyard and variety of squirrels/chipmunks were the dog’s favorite. We didn’t get to use the grill, but we did use the fireplace to add ambiance. Definitely recommend this amazing cabin for anyone!

Great little house, not so great owners.

Myself and our family stayed here for several days. Loved how convenient it was to shops, town, and even Estes Park. Cabin had a nice home feel. Lots of supplies to use for cooking, games, and linens. Negatives - only "view" was from climbing the hill in back of cabin, which is stated in cabin description. Neighbor has a lot of items stored in yard. There was no water the last day of our stay. We had to go the the convenient store down the road to purchase water to do the dishes. Owner of cabin kept our deposit because there were extra linens to wash, but they charge an extra person fee per day which should have covered the cost of the extra time and linens. Owner also charged us for throwing away items in the refrigerator, but some items were expired and the check out book stated to throw away items and clean refrigerator/kitchen upon leaving. Also, flower pot on shelf between kitchen living room had leaked and left watermark on counter. This was here upon our arrival, and I even have photos showing proof. Owner still blamed us for the damage and kept deposit. Loved the area and location, but will look for other options for housing when visiting next time.

Exceptional Experience in a Quiet Mountain Setting

We were very reluctant as this was our first experience with Home Away and we were extremely happy and satisfied. The cabin was in a quiet wooded neighborhood near the state park. The cabin was perfect for our needs. Detailed helpful instructions at the cabin, along with very helpful owners who made sure our comfort was the priority. The book with the area info was great when we needed somewhere to grab some supplies, however we learned the cabin was already stocked with several of the day to day necessity items. It should also be noted how well visitors are recieved in this small community. Everyone we met were helpful and engaging. Our only foe was the blankets of pollen from the evergreen trees that blew through the valley, but nothing more that a slight annoyance. Thanks so much to our gracious hosts and we enjoyed our stay ! Hope to return soon.

Great property & location

The cabin was the perfect size for our family of seven. The outdoor area had ample seating as well as room for the 3 little ones to wander around and play. The location was perfect for the hiking trails in Golden Gate Canyon State Park and nearby attractions.

Cozy and comfortable

We felt at home as soon as we walked in. The weather was not as nice as we would have liked for outdoor activities so we spent time keeping the fire going and playing games with our friends. It's a great place to forget about our troubles and enjoy nature. There's a great view from every window.

Comfortable and well equipped

We spent a very pleasant weekend in this log cabin in Blackhawk. The owner, Vivica, was very responsive to our original request and easily accessible. The house and all directions for it were very well organized. The house is clean and very comfortable and well equipped. The kitchen has every piece of equipment that you could ever need. This cabin would be perfect for a family vacation since it is spacious and filled with games and other leisure activities. The only drawback to the house is meager internet access. But overall we Highly recommend this cabin!

The cabin and owner were both amazing! I would highly recommend anyone to stay here!

First off, the owner couldn't have been more helpful leading up to our trip. The cabin was really nice and had everything you could possibly need. The view from the back when you walk up the little hill was just phenomenal. I loved walking up there with coffee in the mornings and just relaxed. They had all the information you could possibly need as well when it came to what was around in the area and how to get to it. If you are on the fence about staying here, I would recommend you do so. I really don't think you will be disappointed.

Perfect cabin for family gathering!

I rented the cabin for a family gathering to celebrate my youngest daughter turning 30. The cabin was perfect for us. It allowed us to be together in a beautiful setting, lots of room, and still have private sleeping arrangements. Viveca was very helpful with directions to the cabin and letting me know about different restaurants and near by towns. If I had a question, she was quick to respond. The cabin was well stock, plenty of towels and linens and definitely plenty of dishes! All of my children were extremely impressed with the cabin and its surroundings - they loved it! It was an easy drive to Black Hawk & Idaho Springs from the cabin, which was where we were spending most of our time. I would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to get away for a while.

Perfect little hideaway!

Absolutely loved this place! We are a Family of 6 and we had plenty of room to spare this place is the bomb when it comes to being equipped! The kitchen has everything you could need including some spices and other things you always forget while on vacation! Even the bathrooms had plenty of shampoo and flatiron! I mean they even had extra jackets that we used when we went for a walk at night! Our group Being from Las Vegas and Florida wasn't as prepared for those cold nights as we thought we were! Overall everything was just awesome and the price is very fair! You are out in the woods for sure but there is a cute little town 15-20 min up the road with a grocery store and a great pizza shop!! Can't wait to go back!

Nice mountain home to stay

Overall great experience. Nature is directly out back of home. There are a rock hill that is only a few steps away. From this hill you can see a huge panoramic view of the mountains. No cell phone connections for Sprint but AT & T Ok. 15 mins from Nederlands. There are a few close restaurants as well. We also went into Idaho Springs which was about 30 min away.

Exactly what we wanted

A bunch of us wanted to get away for the weekend, spend some time in the Mountians, play a little golf, go see Balckhawk/Central City, and be able to grill out and relax. This cabin was perfect for that. Obviously we all wish we had more time venture around the mountains and see more towns. This place is 100% cabin feeling being tucked away a little bit and the inside of the cabin is awesome and extremely comfortable with a lot more space than I originally had thought. The cabin is perfectly located between a restaurant just up the road on 119 and a gas station down the road on the other side. Plus Central City was only about 8 miles away. We never had any issues the whole time we were there. This place was great!!!

My husband and I met in Colorado while skiing and try to get back here whenever we can!

Why they chose this property

We love Colorado and hope to move here when our youngest son finishes school.

What makes this property unique

We love visiting the cabin any time of the year! Each season has it's special attributes.
The summer is great for hiking, mountain biking and exploring and it's never hot!
The fall is beautiful when the fall leaves start changing and the weather is still nice for hiking.
Winter is the best. I love the dry Colorado snow and having a cozy fire. Eldora Ski resort is only 15 minutes away and is never crowded.
The spring is a treat since you never know what the weather will bring. We had snow May 30th one year! Of course it was gone in the morning when the bright sun came out.
I usually make a pot of coffee in the morning and then take Jax, our goldendoddle, for his morning walk around Thorn Pond while the coffee is brewing.
