The renowned Via Maggio not only gives easy access to many of the city's museums, churches and art galleries but is in the heart of the artisan neighborhood, home to skilled local craftsmen and fascinating workshops excelling in leather work, jewellery, made-to measure shoes, marbled paper and other custom goods and services.
Within the area, in easy walking distance, you will find an array of trendy restaurants, highly rated gelaterias, quaint wine bars, charming osterias and gourmet bistros, supermarkets, grocery stores and other independent retailers.
If your interest is antiques, you will be spoilt for choice. Via Maggio is recognized as Florence’s antique quarter, where you can browse the windows of master-restorers and admire a wide range of antique furniture. Does your passion include shoes? If so, the Oltrarno neighborhood, from Via Maggio to San Frediano, has an abundance of small workshops offering the finest craftmanship in tailor made quality leather shoes. If you are travelling with children, be sure to book a marbled paper demonstration at one of the local marbled paper and bookbinding workshops.

Arriving in Florence:
Florence is well connected to all major cities in Italy (Rome, Milan, Naples and Venice) by extensive, well maintained motorways and efficient and fast train connections.
If you are travelling with young children, have lots of luggage or wish for a completely stress-free experience, we recommend booking a private car with driver service (see info below).
Travelling by train:
Italy has an efficient and fast train network. So, if you are arriving into airports in Rome, Milan, Bologna, Venice or Naples, you can catch the express train (Trenitalia Frecciarossa or Italo) which offers direct services to Florence. Please note that a change may be required from the airport terminal to the train station and then once in Florence you will need to take a taxi or hire a car to reach the apartment. If you decide to travel by train please note that the high speed train fares can vary and it can be very expensive to purchase train tickets last minute. Going by train is usually quicker than travelling by road, but please take into consideration the stations are often very busy and Italy is famous for its frequent train strikes.
Arriving at Florence or Pisa Airport / Train Station:
Florence Airport: 25 mins. drive from the apartment by taxi or private driver / 25 minutes tram journey to the main train station + 25 minutes by foot or 10 mins drive

Taxis:
Getting around Florence by taxi is not difficult, but you do have to know ahead of time that in Italy taxis cannot be “flagged down” as they pass you along the street! Taxis are instead "stationed" at special taxi parking stands in most of the major squares and they can be requested by phone. Please make sure you either book well in advance or allow plenty of time to call a taxi. In Florence, the numbers for calling a taxi are: 055.4242 / 055.4390 / 055.4798 / 055.4499. There is also an app called Taxi App available on the App Store / Android.
You need to dial 0039 in front of these numbers if calling from a foreign phone.
