About this property
Spacious 7BR perfect multifamily getawayl Hiking trails, gameroom, firepit, pool
Gather friends/family & escape to a quiet, country getaway with plenty of room to find your own space! Over 5200sf 7BR home including: multiple game rooms/living areas/garage play area; a large, heated swimming pool; firepit; & 50 acres of wooded trails & creeks to explore. There is something for everyone! Secluded yet drivable to nearby wedding venues, lakes, Mammoth Cave National Park, Corvette museum, and KY Derby! Disability friendly & with guests of all ages kept in mind! Come away- rejuvenate here!
The house is spacious and roomy yet with many smaller, intimate spaces for quiet conversations or restful solo moments. We have a variety of bedrooms from a master suite with king size, adjustable bed to an extra large queen room with lots of extra space for children to room in with, to two children's themed rooms of twin beds. The home also includes a large playroom/basement living area with a full kitchen and adjoining bedrooms. There are several living room/gathering spots on the main floor as well, including the living room with a wood burning fireplace perfect for those fall and winter holiday gatherings. The main floor kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, small appliances, 2 ovens, microwave, dishwasher..... all that you would need for cooking for a large group! Included on every floor are toys and games to entertain the children in your gathering. From coloring supplies in the kitchen pantry to a play kitchen nook under the stairs, dolls and cars and toys and puzzles, we hope your kids have plenty to keep them occupied. We know that will indeed help the grownups get their quiet time! Our garage is set up with hiking supplies, wheeled toys, yard games, and extra fold up tables for use wherever needed. Plenty of room for play even on those rainy days!
Outside we also plan for fun AND rest (think loungers and hammocks) as well. The property includes: an extra-large, heated pool available May through October; ample yard space for games; multiple decks (some covered) for entertaining and gathering (includes a propane gas grill, propane firepit table and propane heater); a wood firepit area in the yard complete with adirondack chairs and firewood; and 50 acres of wooded hiking trails. Creeks, a waterfall, an old homestead and a large, dual level platform in the woods where you can stargaze, await you as you explore. If you're quiet enough you may even see some wild turkey or deer wander by.
This home is unique and designed by the original owner who we purchased it from. Of particular interest is the flooring in the formal living room that was hand restored wood from an old general store and reverse stenciled. Also of unique interest is the barnwood used in the basement that is from an old homestead located on the property. You will see a wonderful mixture of styles and eras in the furnishings and decorations; from family heirlooms to modern. All are chosen with comfort and welcome in mind. (You can see more about each room by clicking on the listing photos!)
We have tried to meet as many needs as we can and have something for everyone! Even people used to rural areas comment on the quiet that they experience here. We really hope our home will bring true rest and rejuvenation to all those who honor us with choosing us for their getaway!
This is a rural property so use normal precautions when hiking in the woods such as using bug spray and wearing suitable shoes. Be aware that there are muddy areas at times so wear clothes and shoes that won't be harmed by a little 'ole country dirt and mud!
Please note that we are handicapped friendly but not fully accessible. We are also family and child friendly but not totally child proof. Please check with us for further information!
Please also let us know any other special needs we might need to be aware of.

About the host
Hosted by Alan & Elaine Hardwick

Alan and I moved to our KY home in 2013. We were born and raised Arkansas and started raising our family there, then on to Ballwin, MO, followed by a move to Sacramento, CA before our move to Kentucky. Getting the opportunity to move to KY and live in this beautiful home, we believe, was a definite gift from God and a that we want to now be able to pass on to others! It was an amazing set of circumstances that we feel that God orchestrated for us to land in Big Clifty, KY. It was a unique journey that was beyond what we could have ever imagined.
As we enjoyed our time in the wonderful state of KY, we were also looking to the future and what retirement for Alan would look like. With no family in KY and grandchildren in St. Louis, we decided to build there for our retirement years. Our KY home was still precious to us, though, and a gift we were not ready to sell. After research and prayer, we decided to turn our wonderful, quiet, restful property into a vacation rental in the hope that we could share its blessing with others as well as be able to keep it for our own family to retreat to!
Our long held dream of offering respite has come true as we are not partnered with A Mother's Rest non profit organization to offer respite weekends to those who faithfully serve as caregivers: parents, siblings, children, spouses, and clients. People who are caregivers to others, paid or not, are frequently worn out and at the end of themselves. Our place is a perfect place to rest and rejuvenate.
So whether you are coming to an official respite weekend or a fun getaway with family and friends, we feel blessed and honored by those who choose our home and all it has to offer! We pray that it will be enjoyed by all who come!
God bless,
Elaine (& Alan) Hardwick
P.S. You should also know that we have the most awesome property manager, Christy Wayman, who joins us in our journey and our philosophy. We truly could not make this work without her. She's the absolute best!

Why they chose this property
One of the things that stands out when people come to stay at our place is the quiet. We are far removed from any busy highway. Our rural road gets little traffic and we have only one visible neighbor. Our home sits on over 50 acres of woods with creeks running through it. Those woods are also surrounded by other wooded properties. It is so peaceful to sit on our decks, hang out in the yard, walk the trails, or sit on the star gazing platform. There are places to sit near the creeks and just absorb the beautiful sounds of the rippling water, birds chirping, and wind in the trees. This home and property are definitely a place of rest as well as a chance to get fresh air and exercise!
What makes this property unique
Unique, this property is definitely unique and most people say that our photos really don't do it justice. The home is very large with 3 levels. Although it is large, it's full of cozy spots. There are places inside and out for everyone! If you like a well lit morning sun bedroom or a "man cave" bedroom where you can hibernate and sleep late, we've got it. If you want to get lots of exercise and fresh air, hit the trails; or sleep hours in the sun, pull the hammock wherever you like and sleep away!
In summer we have the extra large heated pool with all its benefits. The decks and pool have sun and shade to offer depending on your preferences! The decks and yard give everyone a place to spread out and yet be gathered together.
In the house we have toys and games for all ages EVERYWHERE on every level. And near every toy/game area we have comfortable seating for those keeping an eye on the littles.
The house has so much room for holiday gatherings and ample kitchen space, appliances, supplies for cooking all your favorites!
I think to summarize, this home is perfect for large families or multifamily gatherings and has a little bit of something for everyone in the group. It's a great place to get away from the cares of the world, put away electronics, enjoy nature and regroup before heading back into normal life.
