About this property

Beautiful Lakefront Home, Great for a Peaceful Getaway...

Beautiful 3 bedroom, 2 bath waterfront saltbox on a small, quiet lake in upstate NY in the town of Hampton (not on Lake George), 3 mi. from the VT border, 35 miles from Lake George village, with a screened in porch. Open floor plan, private home, available year round. Enjoy a good book on our deck while the setting sun reflects onto the water. In the fall, the foliage mirrors onto the lake; in the winter, the woodstove keeps you cozy and warms you up when you come in from skating or x/c skiing. Our leather sectional is a great place to watch a movie at the end of your day, or read a book as your kids work on a puzzle on our large coffee table. Enjoy the private lake on our canoe, kayaks, paddle boat, paddleboard or rowboat. It's a great family vacation, that can include your well mannered family dog, if you just can't bear to leave him behind. Please identify the pet(s) you would like to bring and read our pet policy at the end of our rental agreement, and email the pet breed(s) you would like to bring and that you agree to our terms. Our master bedroom with a plush, king-size bed and main bath area are downstairs, with two additional bedrooms and another bath upstairs, making it easy to share with another couple or family, while still having privacy. You can chill out and enjoy the peaceful setting, or when you're re-energized and ready to explore, Lake George Village is just over a half hour away, with large Riverboats to tour the lake, restaurants and outlet shopping. Manchester, VT is a Designer Outlet mecca, or take a day trip to charming VT towns like Middlebury, Ludlow, Brattleboro, or everyone's favorite, Burlington. There's great Horseback riding and a seasonal rodeo at Pond Hill Ranch just 20 minutes away; Poultney, VT has a rail trail for hiking, dog-walking, biking, x/c skiing or snowshoeing, just 10 minutes away.; beautiful golfing at Milestone Golf Club just 10 minutes away. No prom - weekends or college spring break rentals; minimum rental age: 25.
***The months of July and August require 7 nights w/ Friday to Friday. Occasionally, there are shorter timeframes available (ie, when someone books 10 days) so that may show up on the calendar.

Lovely getaway.

Cozy cottage tucked back on a lovey private pond. The dogs swam to their hearts content and we had a great time fishing. It sits on a hill, and is a little challenging to access, but totally worth the effort. We loved sitting out on the screened porch in the evenings. The bed was very comfortable. We would definitely come back.

Perfect family get away

Loved staying here. It was so nice having a fully stocked kitchen for cooking purposes and being right on the water was even better. My family and I had a great time here and would definitely rent again I loved that there was a VHS player there with a bunch of VHS tapes to watch! Thank you!

Relaxing Get away

This is our third time stay at the lake. It’s so relaxing to sit on the dock and listen to and watch the wildlife. We enjoy using the kayaks and paddle board on the premises and cooking out on the grill. We have to bring very few things with us as the house has most of what we need for our stay.

Beautiful property

We had a great stay. Only downfall was that I was unable to go down to the lake often because of the steep incline. But the rest of my family loved it!!

Wonderful place to relax

Great house on a small pond (only abut 11 houses on pond). Lots of fun activities on water from kayaking, paddle boarding, peddle boating and fishing. House was excellent and pond was quiet. Fun for whole family.

Comfortable stay

This is a great house in a beautiful location. Very comfortable with everything we needed. Each room has it's own thermostat which was great for the winter months. It would be wonderful in the summer with the lake and screened-in porch. Overall we were very happy with our stay and would rent again.

Nice space for 5 large adults.

Loved the screened in porch there were lots of birds and wildlife. Beach front was great for the grand kids that came to visit for a few hours. Enjoyed our stay very much. The beds were comfortable. Nice deck and beautiful waterfront. That walk up from the waterfront was a killer but well worth the haul. All in all a very comfortable home. Thank you for a great time!!

Peaceful Getaway

Despite the weather not being the best, we had a great time. We enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding, and just sitting on the deck enjoying the multitude of birds and wildlife. This was a quiet spot, great for getting away and relaxing. The house had we needed and everything was labeled to make it easier to return things to their proper place. Thanks for sharing your lake home!

Quiet retreat

A very quiet location with parking for two cars. The house is cozy and the beds were comfortable. It was fall and there were many orchards with pick-your-own options. The only down side is the house is on a steep slope so loading and unloading the car was some work as well as getting to the water. Enjoy feeding the jays peanuts. They'll remind you.

Beautiful area for outdoor fun

The place was nice and the outdoor space was beautiful and just what we needed to unwind between visiting family. The pond was so much fun even on the off season. My only true concern is the overall cleanliness, in leu of Covid the house was just not very clean. It appeared as if someone had not been in the home for a few weeks and certainly hadn't dusted or freshened the bedding. We killed many spiders and removed many cobwebs, the downstairs bedroom was so dusty I couldn't sleep in it as I couldn't breath and ended up sleeping on the couch. If you have dust allergies maybe this home isn't right for you. Otherwise we did have a wonderful time with the outdoor space.

Beautiful, peaceful and fun!

The house is spacious and comfortable, very well furnished, with comfortable beds. The kitchen has everything needed for meal preparation. We particularly enjoyed the screened porch, where we enjoyed the views of a variety of birds at the feeder, hummingbirds at their dispenser, and the lake at the bottom of the hill, while playing board games and eating meals. The lake (Melvin Pond) is small. It was very calm most of the time, being in a basin, with hills on both sides. About half of the shoreline is wild, making for interesting places to hang out in a kayak to observe the fish and birds. It is also quiet. While we were there, there were often a few others fishing or kayaking or swimming, but in the distance, and not loud. The most noise came from the occasional weed wacking or lawn mowing — and from some spectacular thunderstorms. The small sandy beach provides access to the water for launching boats or swimming. The footing is a bit tricky, but it’s possible to walk in gradually until the water is about knee-deep. Then it turns mushy and filled with underwater plants, so we preferred to swim out a bit to where it becomes deep (over my head at 5’6”). The house is not suitable for people with mobility issues. The house is a full full flight of stairs below the parking area (there’s a wooden staircase and a gradually sloping gravel). To get to the lakeside, there is a very long, very steep grassy hill. Helen was great. Very good service.

Highly recommended!

Our family (myself, my husband and three children 16yrs, 14years, 12years) at this wonderful lakehouse for a week. The home is very nicely appointed with all you will need! Linens and bath towels are provided (such a plus), kitchen is well stocked, home is very clean (I was concerned about possible dog hair when booking because the owners do allow dogs, I am a dog lover but leave my dog home on vacation, but I can assure you there was no sign that dogs were here-VERY clean, not a hair to be found!). The screened in porch is amazing, we ate most meals there and played many games. In addition the deck off the living room was another area to eat (picnic table with umbrella) and the two Adirondack chairs on the deck are the perfect for reading or morning coffee. The doors to the screened in porch are beautiful carved wood-many nice touches! You will love all the birds and chipmunks! The lake was fabulous!!! We stay at lake homes every summer-often in the Pocono mountains, this was by far the best lake ever! The dock at lake offers lounge chairs and a huge umbrella! You can swim in the lake, very clean--no "lake weed" at all near the dock! There are so many "toys' (peddle boat, canoe, 2 kayaks and a paddleboard). We spent HOURS down at the lake! Of course we brought our fishing poles and were amazed at the number of fish we caught right off the dock!! It's a small, private lake "Melvin Pond"--perfect size. It is a bit of a workout walk down/ up but we are from Long Island so maybe we are used to flat ocean type landscapes...or we are a bit out of shape! We did venture out a couple of days-we went to Lake George(about 40mins) shopping, lunch, Minnie Ha Ha Steamboat, we went to breakfast one day at The Silo Restaurant (about 30mins away-delicious and a very nice, large gift shop while you wait) and to play mini golf/ice cream one night. Helen sent us a list of many places to visit in the area (you are about 10 mins from the Vt border) but we really had the best time in the lake, and did not go out much. Helen is very organized with sending all the information before we left for the trip for the specifics of the home/area which was so helpful! There is no AC in the home, there are fans in all bed rooms and ceiling fans is the LR and the screened porch, it got cooler as the week progressed so did not use the fans later in the week at all. Helen is amazing to deal with! The deposit was returned within days of our return home. Highly recommend

Great place for a get-away!

We had a wonderful weekend away from our busy lives. The house was well-equipped and clean. The woodstove kept us toasty warm and we could enjoy the view of the water below. Though there were neighbors on each side, they were a decent distance from the house, and the woods in between the properties gave us privacy and we felt secluded. The king size bed was very comfortable with cotton sheets and we slept well. We want to come back when the weather is warm to enjoy the screened in porch and the lake. A very sweet spot.

About the host

Hosted by Helen Krieger

Host profile image
We love our times here at the lake, but can only enjoy it occasionally. We'd love to find people that will be able to come up and enjoy this little slice of paradise, instead of having it sit empty, waiting for our next visit. We are empty nesters, until the kids and grandkids all come back to visit, so we're always on the go. When we're not working at our IT desk jobs, we love biking, boating, x/c skiing, kayaking, and just about anything outdoors. We go every other year to Europe on a bike and boat adventure; that's our favorite way to combine our love of boating and the water, along with biking.

Why they chose this property

We wanted to find a lake that was peaceful and not crowded with everyone on top of each other. Compared to other properties we looked at, this one couldn't be beat.

What makes this property unique

We love that we can enjoy it year round. My husband is a swimmer, so once the water warms up, he swims from one end to the other every day we're at the lake. In the winter, our grandkids come up and tube down our hillside onto the frozen lake, and we skate, snowshoe and x/c ski. In the fall, the views of the foliage are great, as well as the hiking at Haystack Mountain just 25 minutes away.
