About this property

Renovated Church Sanctuary: Ski and Swim, Relax, Cook, Gather.

I bought this church from the Roman Catholic Diocese 15 years ago.
25 foot cathedral ceilings, six burner cook stove, soapstone farm sink, double shower heads, two full baths, original stained glass with beautiful morning light. House yoga mats, gas fireplace, 40" flat screen with cable and couch and stuff chairs for lounging and talking, 9' cherry dining table
The stained glass is original and is illuminated each morning by the sunrise coming up over the hill. This stunning space is the result of a three year renovation. The curved walls and archways create a true sanctuary like space that is hard to leave once you are there.
Stratton Mountain is 30 minutes to the access road and under 35 to Mount Snow. Brattleboro, just five minutes away, has been voted consistently as one of the best small towns in America to visit. If you want to ski, snow shoe, shop, eat, sip local brew and explore the town, or never leave the Sanctuary, this is your spot!

The master suite is up in the extended 'choir loft' that I built out to make a spacious bedroom and dressing room, and has it's own full bath with double-headed shower and 54" claw-foot tub.
There are two beautiful, very small private rooms to the left and right of what used to be the altar. They feature curved walls, queen beds, and a large skylight in each. There is a full bathroom for these rooms with European style shower as well as full laundry for the house.

The kitchen is a chef's delight with a six burner, two grill, double oven Garland Restaurant gas stove, double soapstone farm sink and beautifully detailed concrete countertops. Lots of counter space and a large farm table island in the middle provide adequate prep, serving and 'hang out' space (everyone seems to love to congregate in the kitchen!).

The heat is radiant floor which is wonderful for this space with 25' vaulted ceilings. There is also a propane instant on-demand glass door fireplace on the 'altar' for ambience throughout the space and cozying up to after a day on the mountains.
The TV lounge under the choir loft has couches and a lounge chair for watching movies, reading and relaxing. We have cable, Netflix and Amazon capability through the Blue Ray player, and of course, high speed Internet.

There are country roads for walking, a wonderful river to visit nearby, a great neighborhood if you want to make friends, and the US post office right in the village.
The Church is a most welcoming and generous space for one to six!

VT at its most quirky and artistic!

Natalie’s home is a unique architectural, historical and artistic experience. The place is very fun and it’s exciting to cook on a giant ten burner antique stove just as it’s cool to shower in her bathroom finished in true artisanal tiles. Loved it.

The Church House

The Church House (as we called it) was an amazing space that held our family both physically and metaphorically with love. The space is open and gracious and the accommodations were very comfortable. This is truly a unique experience and one that I would highly recommend.

Fun, Artsy, Clean and Comfortable

My husband and I loved spending the winter weekend at this fun and comfortable converted church with our 2 teenage daughters and a couple of their friends. It was the perfect retreat - spacious and warm (radiant heat in the floors works great). It has a large kitchen island and dining table for enjoying meals and several cozy seating areas for relaxing. Location was perfect. Mt Snow was only about 30 min away and Lots of good restaurants only 10 minutes away in Brattleboro.

Perfect

This place is a gem. We were looking for a getaway that allowed us downtime, relaxation and was centrally located to our interests. (Outdoor activities) Not only did we have those needs met but the kitchen was well appointed and the space is so beautiful that it helped us recharge in ways we couldn’t have imagined. Natalie is a friendly, responsive and easy to work with host. We will be returning!!

Unique property in a great location.

My family (including our two dogs) booked a post Christmas week vacation at the church. Was an easy experience with the owners from start to finish. They even came over to help dig my car out after some snow. The property itself was open and welcoming. Very unique! More than enough room for 3 couples. There is much to do in the surrounding area. Ski, hike or just enjoy the peace and quiet. Close enough drive to town for dinner or drinks. We had a wonderful time. Thank you Nick and Natalie, we will be back!

Family Birthday

My partner is from Vermont so we selected a place where the family could gather to celebrate his father's 86th birthday. The home is full of art and lots of treasures to behold. There is a tenant downstairs, so be aware. There is a library/community space behind the home for extra parking and space for little ones to play. The rules are very specific so just check in with the owners beforehand if you have little kids.

Fantastic Converted Church & Location

The church property is as amazing as it looks online: big, open space with two private bedrooms and a loft for the master suite. The upstairs bathroom with shower is literally a work of art, and the owner's art graces the home throughout. We also liked the small town very much, and our dog loved walking the adjacent playing field each day. Not much to criticize. The check-in process was bumpy but soon resolved; the refrigerator is located in the entryway, which is a bit of a pain; and the wi-fi was spotty throughout. But overall the place is extremely cool.

Vacation in Brattleboro

The sanctuary is as advertised: striking in looks, very nicely appointed and quite comfortable. In addition, there is an impressive collection of interesting around around the home. I have to point out how responsive the owners are. The internet went out on a Sunday morning and Natalie was by to reset the modem in 15 minutes - incredibly thoughtful. Highly recommended.

Serenity

This property is unusual in the best possible way. We--spouse and two teenagers-- stayed for a long weekend and came away relaxed and rested. Natalie was a helpful and accommodating host, who provided excellent tips about how to make the most of the natural beauty of the immediate area (short hikes and bike rides) and where to eat out. The living space is full of interesting art and books with several comfortable spaces to enjoy them and be together The location was very peaceful and quiet. We would definitely return and look forward to another chance to do so..

A wonderful renovated church. So unique, peaceful and comfortable. Lots of room ! We walked everyday thru quiet peaceful areas a few yards from the front door. It’s so quiet I had the best nights sleep every night. Everything you need, well stocked kitchen for lots of dinner guests and the awesome stove/ oven, a chef’s dream. Exceptional Experience

We are finding it hard to leave this beautiful, artistic, sanctuary. A perfect location for trips to several mountains for skiing, quaint shopping towns and then all the benefits of Brattleboro, of which, there are many. We fell in love with our hosts, Natalie and Nick, who are incredibly hospitable, always available and checking in to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The church is beautifully appointed.. a masterpiece of fine art and objects of art, beautiful handmade plateware, truly a gourmet kitchen with every utensil you will need to create...ultra comfy beds...all of our guests marveled at the exceptional experience as well. Namaste, Natalie and Nick...until we meet again!

Lovely and. Unique Home

We visit the Brattleboro area annually to visit family, and we found Natalie and Nick's lovely home for our recent visit. The house is spectacularly decorated and appointed. The beds were cozy and it was a quick drive into town. They were also easy to reach with questions or help finding anything. Highly recommend.

About the host

Host profile image
The church has been my home since 2001. I am a ceramic artist
I co-own a contemporary craft gallery three miles from the house called Fire Arts Vermont which is three miles from the house-- a twenty artists collective showing my ceramics, furniture, blown artglass, jewelry, lighting and more.
My partner Nick bought and renovated the home next door, and we live in both like Frida and Diego. The church is technically my home, and the house next door his.
We love cooking, and therefore great kitchens, and most of all, we love to create great spaces so that friends and families can let down and have a great getaway.

Why they chose this property

Because it's a renovated church, and it's a womb. It loves having friends come to stay. I have had so many guests stay, and we all agree, there is a vibration in the space that feels like home, and loves you up with all the beautiful colors, art I've collected, stained glass, and places to lounge, stretch on the floor, or site by the fire.

What makes this property unique

Beautiful, full of art and intrigue
Comfortable
Cozy
Easy walks to beautiful places all year round.
A great middle point between a great art town with great restaurants and shops, and the ski mountains.
Close to Brattleboro--- named #8 best smal art towns in America
close to all kinds of Vermont activities, from skiing to apple picking to summer festivals and swimming....

We look forward to your stay!
