We had a great weekend at the Log Cabin in Maggie Valley,North Carolina! We will definitely be back,soon!2
The cabin was nice and convenient; however, the kitchen could use a few more items to make the stay more enjoyable such as muffin tins, small baking ware, slow cooker and a few more utensils for cooking. The property manager was quick to address a small issue. Thank you for a nice stay!
We stayed for 4 nights during Thanksgiving and it was a great experience! Cozy and great location!

Reviewer Comments:
There was a potent chemical smell in this home when we entered With a 1 year old baby and our 4 year old. After an hour we had headaches and we were all very nauseous. It was also hard to breathe and our lungs were burning. We ended up looking around obsessively and finding multiple large open bags of probably over 100-200 mothballs in multiple locations. The gentleman next door did move us to another home the next day and did refund us our first night for which we were grateful as we were not staying there any longer, but we were only in Maggie valley for 2 days and dealing with moving homes and packing up....we didnt even get to enjoy our vacation with our kids which we desperately needed. On a secondary note, I have owned a property management company for over a decade. I was told by the nice gentleman they were "totally unaware of the mothballs, the previous tenants must have put them there". Well let me tell you....you SHOULD have been aware. its called a spot check between tenants...and it is called doing your job. We found this just by looking around really good for about 10 min. By the way, there were also used tissues and tooth flossers under the bed....may want to have the cleaners check under there as well. We did appreciate the refund. That was good business. thank you.
It was cozy and clean. The only negative is that the heat was very low when we first arrived and it took several hours to heat up to a comfortable temp. The outside temp was in the 20s.

Liked: Cleanliness, communication
Disliked: Location
Outdated
Heat not adjustable, had to leave windows open to cook or smoke alarm went off, holes in bathroom wall stuffed with toilet paper
It was very close to everything you may need. Which also means if you want solitude, this isn't it. But the cabin itself was very nice. We had a fire in the fireplace which was very nice.

Reviewer Comments:
When we first entered it was freezing inside, by the third day I was sweating. The temp was hard to regulate with the outdated heaters. It was not very clean, spider webs needed to at least be swiped down. It was cozy and nice for our two day stay. Beds were comfy.

Dirty, dated and dilapidated. Lots of cleaning and updating required.
Started off bad when previous occupants and housekeeping left a trash can full of stale cigarette butts under the counter. Should be on a checklist to check the trash regardless of the occupant rules. Smell stayed for days in spite of open windows and air freshener. Very gloomy, tired and dirty. We are not that picky having stayed in some pretty gruesome places around the world, but the housekeeper here needs to go back to school. Food residue and dirt along the baseboards looked like it had been there for months. Fan blades were throwing off dirt onto the furnishings, which are also pretty tired, as is the paint, the carpet, the wall paper, etc... The gutters are falling off the soffit and you can see where the ceiling has had some leaks in a couple of rooms. Even the vacuum looks like it belongs in the Smithsonian and it would only run 2 minutes before it would trip the current limiter and shut off. Sure, the price is right for the place and we survived, but with the rental market in Maggie pretty saturated, there are many places to choose from. We think both the managers (Carolina Vacations) and the owners share the blame for the condition of this property and if they don't want to bring it up to standards, then it should be taken off the rental market. After a week of scoping out other places, there are too many other places that are more attractive, and much cleaner that, while they may cost a little more.....well you get what you pay for. One last note, if you are a biker, this is not a real friendly biker place as the grading and slopes are tricky, especially with leaves covering everything and the drive is pretty steep at the road, with one entrance being better than the other. Parking was good since it is at the end of the street, as we had two trucks, two MC trailers and three Harleys with us and could not have done that at many places around town. There, I found something good to say. Also, while the bed looked thin, it was comfortable for us and we both have gimpy backs, so that is two good things. Porch was nice too and we enjoyed watching the squirrels try to hoist huge walnuts back to their nests....three things....on a roll.

DIRTY
Very nice location, large cabin, well equiped, very reasonable. We spent a week there, upon our arrival, we were overwelmed by the dust. It took us about two hours to clean the kitchen ,living room, front bedroom , and bath. We then closed the door to the rest of the cabin , and did not go in there again. Other than vacuming , changing linens, and wiping off surfaces , I dont think the place had been cleaned since it was built.
