Great Cottage Near Downtown

My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Mint Cottage. It was in a great location. Close to downtown Asheville, near the Biltmore, and near some great parks. We enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving here and plan to visit again in the near future.

Great cottage in great location

We really enjoyed our month of July stay at Mint Cottage. Check-in was a breeze and we found it spotless upon arrival. Although a bit dated here and there, it was adequate for our needs. Loved the porch, back deck and fenced yards. Location to downtown Asheville was excellent. Even a bus stop a block away to whisk you there if you don’t want to deal with downtown parking. Our wish list for our next stay would be faster wifi and cable tv.

Great trip!

Wonderful home in a fantastic location. Everything you need for a home base in Asheville at a fair price. It was also great to bring the dog and enjoy the yard. Thanks again!

Great Bungalow, close to downtown and UNCA

We stayed at the Mint Cottage while visiting my daughter in Asheville. The cottage was close to downtown shopping and restaurants as well as UNC Asheville. This historic bungalow has everything you need during your stay — a nice kitchen, comfortable beds, spacious living areas, and a nice yard with a deck. We will definitely make a return trip to the Mint Cottage.

Artsy in Asheville

Great location. Just 5 minutes from downtown Asheville. Situated in a quiet residential neighborhood. Harris Teeter and Trader Joes just 2 minutes away. Great fenced in front and back yards for dog owners. Very clean house with everything you might need. Decor is very artsy. We will definitely return.

Fall in Asheville.....beautiful!!

Our group enjoyed the wonderful setting of Asheville coupled with the cozy Mint Cottage that we came to call home over our 4 day stay. This is not my first on a VRBO prompted property and it was so good like most of my stays have been! The location was awesome as we spent most of our time in the downtown area. Our access to the property was awesome so that different members could come and go without worrying about access to the property. The peaceful neighborhood that surrounded us and the added bonus of feeding the birds made our stay so special!! I love seeing the yellow shafted flicker come right up on the porch for his morning meal. Next time we hope to use the bikes that are available, and it should be noted I said next time. We would stay here again and again!! Thanks for opening this sweet haven for us!

Cute cottage in great Asheville location!

We very much enjoyed our weekend at the Mint Cottage. We have a small dog that is our child that we take everywhere. He doesn't do well in hotels when left alone as he can hear noises outside the door so he barks until he drives everyone crazy. Not the case here, the cottage is on a nice quiet street with a fenced backyard. He never got anxious and that left us to enjoy our weekend. The Cottage is nicely appointed, very clean and well decorated. We walked from the Cottage to all over downtown Asheville. It would be easy to walk or bike from this spot and leave the car behind. It served our needs perfectly - three couples in Asheville for the weekend. We would highly recommend this, especially for families with pets, and we will be back sometime soon!

A Real Charmer

The cottage was very comfortable for all of us to enjoy our visit. Loved relaxing with my daughter’s on the front porch in the evenings while enjoying our wine, knitting and each other’s company. I was fascinated with seeing Fire Flies for the first time. Neat little creatures. We took advantage of the cooler weather and the neighborhood’s eclectic appeal exploring the hilly streets with the distinctive mix of homes and apartments throughout with several walks during the week. We had fun together cooking in the large, well-stocked kitchen and also had fun BBQ-ing on the back deck. The cottage is centrally located and found the location convenient for our day trips we took to downtown Asheville, Black Mountain, Brevard, Hendersonville, Dillsboro and Lil’ Switzerland. We will definitely consider renting this cottage again for future Asheville visits. Thank you for making our family feel so welcome!!

Like home

My husband, dog and I spent from mid-October through November at the Mint Cottage. We really enjoyed staying in a place that felt like home. We work remotely, so the house was a perfect size for us. We used the 2nd and 3rd rooms/ bedrooms as offices. We loved the backyard. Even though you are walking distance to downtown Asheville, the backyard makes you feel like you are far from town. The property backs up to a creek and a wooded area. We loved the location. You can walk to the grocery store (there are two!), the Asheville Yoga Center, High Five coffee, and a few restaurants (HomeGrown, Luella's BBQ). It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk to downtown and it is hilly. We loved this area so much that we moved into the house right next door! So, please feel free to say hello if you stay at the Mint Cottage! We are in the bright blue house :)

Quaint and Walkable

Loved Mint Cottage! Perfect for my husband and I although it could hold several more people with 3 nice bedrooms. Great fenced in yards in front and back for our dog. Neighborhood is wonderful. You can walk to pubs and restaurants nearby and downtown for a bigger variety. Would definitely stay again!

The property is charming and eclectic.

We enjoyed the neighborhood, and walking our dog to the park. The library stops throughout are a pleasure too. You can walk to Asheville Yoga Center, restaurants, and the veterinary clinic (of you bring your pet). The home has some quirks, but you get used to them. We stayed there for five weeks, and felt right at home.

Great Summer

I have spent the past two summers at Mint Cottage and have so enjoyed my time there. The location is perfect for walking to town and also the many neighborhoods restaurants. After spending the summers in Asheville I realized that I needed to live here , therefore I bought a home. So now the rest of you have the opportunity to experience the joy of staying at Mint Cottage for the summer. I know you will enjoy it as much as I have.

Cozy home with everything you need for your stay

I had the most wonderful experience staying at Mint Cottage. I felt so comfy, cozy and at home there. You really just need to bring you clothes and toothbrush - well I brought my Keurig (never leave home without it). The area is perfect to walk downtown in about 20 minutes. The neighboorhood restaurants are fantastic too. Be sure to try Homegrown - best southern fried chichen, Vinnie's - best Italian. And don't forget to walk a block to "Ultimate Icecream". I made that walk a few too many times!!! Thank you Meryl for making your home feel like my home too. You can be sure I'll be back next summer.

great place

We liked the location of this very much, so close to downtown. We walked some of the neighborhood and liked it as well. We have dogs so it was a nice get away with them and they liked the doggy door,we may have to get one! It's such a nice house that we want to get back there. We had a fire two of the nights in the fire pit area and grilled a couple of times. We were very comfortable!

About the host

Hosted by Meryl Weber

Host profile image
Jeff and Meryl live in Charleston, SC. We have been married for 44 years and have two children, 4 grandchildren, and a dog, Cashew. We love to travel and met while backpacking in Europe when we were in college. Having a place in Asheville gives us the best of both worlds-Beach and Mountains. Meryl is originally from NJ and is an artist and Jeff is a proud Kentuckian, loves gardening and bicycling.

Why they chose this property

We purchased our Asheville house when our daughter was a student at UNCA. After she graduated we decided to renovate it and use it as a mountain getaway. We love the character of a 1912 home but with all modern conveniences. We love the cool mountain weather and the abundance of activities in and around Asheville. It is great to stroll around downtown and see what is happening-there always seems to be a festival, a street fair, or other excitement going on. If you love the arts, there are plenty of galleries and the new River Arts District. There is every kind of outdoor activity-on a recent trip we went tubing and berry-picking. If you love craft beer, Asheville was just voted #1 Beer City in the US!

What makes this property unique

You will love Mint Cottage, appropriately named for the abundance of mint growing in the front yard. It is a lovely location in a residential neighborhood, but walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops and Ultimate Ice Cream-the best in Asheville!! The house is comfortable, snug and very clean. It is colorfully and artistically decorated with many of the artist owner's personal touches. We are dog-friendly, with fenced front and back yards and a doggy door. We have a notebook of menus from our favorite restaurants as well as suggestions of where to shop, what to see and what to do! There is a deck for outdoor relaxing. There is off street parking for two cars.
