My family enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It has the classic Maine vibe that I remember from my own childhood. And the location is incredible. It's tucked up into a pine forest with gorgeous views out every window, and it's a very short walk to Hendrick's Head beach.
Southport is our favorite place in Maine. Love this cabin, and its location. Stayed here 7 years ago, and it is evident that it is loved and well cared for. Looking forward to returning. Our happy place !!!
There were several issues from day one, however, the owners were great at communicating with us and resolving them. The cabin is perfect for all things "Maine" and nicely situated in the woods with a five minute walk to the beach. Great for families, kids, and adults alike.
Just like it was advertised, classic cottage.
We were pleasantly surprised with the property. Everything better than expected. Our dogs loved running around outside and going to the beach on their morning walk. The area was walkable and many people did just that. The kitchen was well equipped for someone like me who likes to cook, even on vacation. There are 19 hiking trails close by. Many activities for the whole family. Shopping-there is something for everyone from farmers markets to gift shops to thrift shops.
A simply gorgeous and airy cabin that feels private and secluded, yet is just a stone's throw from Hendrick's Head Beach. Spotless with thoughtful touches throughout, plenty of boardgames and beach toys, and an ample kitchen. Plenty of room for a family to stretch out, relax and enjoy everything Southport and BBH have to offer. My wife, my five-year-old twin daughters, and I had a wonderful time during our week's stay -- HIGHLY recommend. Even soft music on the radio was playing for our arrival. Exactly what Maine with the family should be all about.

Great summer cottage, close to the beach
Great cottage surrounded by pine trees . You feel like you are a million miles away from the hustle and busel. Wild blueberry bushes surround the cottage and you can pick away if you are there at the right time of year. Only a short 3 minute walk to the a great beach. Cottage itself has a lot of charm, all the amenities and many sleeping options with a seperate sleeping cottage just outside the main cabin. Morning walks to the Southport general store make you feel like you are back in the 60's. Boothbay harbor is just close enough for some shopping and great restaurants. This place is a hidden jem, shhh don't tell anyone!!!
We loved our stay in West Southport. We have rented many cottages throughout the Northeast, and this was our favorite. It reminded me of cottages of my childhood. It is homey and cozy so feels like a beloved family cottage rather than a sterile rental. The location is incredible. The sunroom and rooftop deck just add to its perfection.
I very much enjoyed my stay in this quintessentially Maine cabin! The location is ideal to relax and enjoy the many wonderful aspects of Maine including easy access to the beach, lighthouses, hiking, and of course, great seafood!
We enjoyed our stay. Nice, rustic cabin within a 5 minute walk to dog friendly beach with a beautiful view of Hendricks Head Lighthouse. Kitchen has all necessities. Very friendly neighborhood for walks and just a few minutes from Boothbay Harbor for amazing restaurants, boat trip and quaint stores. Wifi worked great for us. We picked up cooked lobsters right down the road and brought them back for dinner. Check out the General Store for minor needs just a short walk up the street and Farm 23 in Boothbay Harbor for a great bakery.
I hesitate to write a review because I want this place all to myself. It was the most perfect time, ever. We walked to the beach everyday and spent the evenings reading in front of the fire. The kids had do much fun crabbing and jumping from the "island". We cooked/grilled at the house most days, but Boothbay harbor is an easy drive and there is lots of sites to explore. I grew up spending every summer of my childhood in Boothbay. It's so nice seeing my kids enjoy the same thing. The house was everything we could possibly want. Oh...yes, there is internet access, but I told my kids there wasn't any. Thank you so much for an amazing time. we've already requested for next year.
The hosts were very nice. The cottage was a great place to spend a week in the woods. Quiet and relaxing location. Short walk to the dog friendly beach. Highly recommended !!
We loved the property. It is in a great location for a quiet family vacation yet also near to various activities. Our kids are 6&8 and they loved playing in the woods as well as the beach nearby.
First, VRBO had wifi on the list of items available. It is NOT. NOT on the property. 7 minutes one way, 12 minutes another. Hoping next year it's available on the property, or closer by. Otherwise, owners are friendly and helpful. Place was amazing, in that a comfortable cottage, really good kitchen and bathroom, situated in the woods, with a view of the water, and an amazing beach to walk to. Good prices. Overall very good experience, totally enjoyable.
I really enjoyed my stay here. The cabin is up in the trees, so it was cooler than the surrounding area. It has lots of space, and anything you could want for cooking in the kitchen. I didn't realize until I heard from the owner two weeks before my stay that I would need to being my own bed linens and towels. Also, the refrigerator contained only a few condiments. Not a problem, as I usually get my own before I arrive, and prefer not to use other people's items. The walk to the beach really is only 5 minutes, and it's dog friendly! A little on the rocky side, but one can find a place to sit. My son swam to the small islands to explore during lower tides. All in all, it was a nice stay.

Cottage was in a very quiet area on a back road, just barely a block from Hendricks Head beach.
Close enough to town, but faraway enough to be peaceful, quiet and relaxing.
Perfect for families with kids- the 12 and 10 yr olds with us spent nearly every waking hour beach combing and climbing the rocks at the beach. @peace&quiet4adults!
The cottage was easy to keep clean, well equipped and tucked back off the road.
The high point for me was seeing all the Osprey nests and hearing the song of a Swainson's thrush each morning and evening. Oh, and the lobsters we ate every single day- fabulous. Fortunately, none of the 3 kids we brought liked seafood--chicken strips are cheaper than lobster.
The one cool, rainy day we had was spent at the Southport Island library and Boothbay Harbor. We also really enjoyed the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse.
There is a Southport Association that has formed to preserve some island properties and develop them for educational and historical purposes. Bravo!
Our hosts were very gracious and if you stay here, be sure to visit Oliver's restaurant.
Thanks, Susan, for the restful week that my sister and I were hoping for.

Wonderful cottage near the beach
We enjoyed our stay at this cottage. The cottage is well equipped and our teenage boys loved the loft sleeping space. It is a 5min walk to the beach which we explored every day. We brought our dog and she loved the dog friendly beach. There is also a small walking trail near the beach which we explored. The owners were at their own cottage across the road when we were there and were very helpful when the power went out briefly during a rain storm. Boothbay Harbor is worth a visit and this cottage made our stay even more enjoyable!
