Wonderful

I stayed with my twin daughters (18y) and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Falling asleep to the crashing waves, enjoying the deck at sunset, and the hot tub before bed made it a truly relaxing experience. The location was great for day trips to Monterey, Santa Cuz, Miss Landing, even hiking Big Sur if you leave early.

Thanks goodness for the hot tub!
This a wonderful 3 level house on the beach. Even though the house is a bit dated instyle it was perfect for my family vacation. Since it's is foggy and cool in the month of July, my kids welcomed the hot tub after freezing in the ocean.
While slightly funky this property has an amazing view, fairly easy access to the beach, a hot tub (!), and is well apportioned. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Loved watching the ocean, the birds, the seals, the porpoises etc. The fireplace was so cozy and easy access to Santa Cruz and surrounding cities.
Very unique house. We loved the location and beach. The views are amazing no matter what room you are in! A few negatives would be.. having to pick up and drop off rental keys at the property management office. A cobo lock would be much more convenient. We use it for our own vacation rental on Maui. The bedrooms have no closets or dressers (rooms are small) and the stove/oven is tiny. But all in all we loved the house. The hot tub and sauna were lovely.
The view and beach access is excellent! I loved the hot tub and sauna and would rate this location 5/5 even with my few complaints... I do have a few nit-picky complaints though: We cooked while we were there and the cooking equipment was nasty and the cookware and cooking utensils left a bad taste in my food which isn't great. I would consider replacing the cookware with something durable like steel or hexclad. The downstairs kitchenette is disheveled and the cardboard topper above the mini-fridge cannot support much weight and it is stained and gross looking. It discouraged me from using the kitchenette altogether. Also, one of the bed's sheets were very starchy and not soft at all. If the rental is going to be so expensive, I would invest in softer sheets. Other than that this place is perfect :) I would recommend it to anybody and, if you replace the cookware so I have something safe to cook with, I'll book again!!!
Funky layout, but great for two (maybe 3) families!
We really enjoyed the location, and it was nice that two couples could each have a floor, plus the kids in their own space! We made good use of the spa and sauna, and loved the easy access to the beach.
Be aware: there are A LOT of stairs - each floor has high ceilings, so maybe more stairs than anticipated. And the spiral staircase to the bottom floor is fairly narrow, so carrying luggage/beach toys to the bottom floor might be more easily accomplished by walking around!
Pros: Captains Cove isn't your ordinary attempt at a boat theme...the craftsmanship of the condo and custom wood work is amazing. On the beach location, quiet neighborhood, beach was never busy or congested. Plenty of room for family or two couples. Appliances and lights and hot tub all worked. Boogie boards and chairs in closet were a hit.
Cons: Smoke detectors aren't working (please check into this). No where to dry wet towels because of all the wood. So many stairs, FYI! Only one TV on bottom floor which is also a bedroom so one lucky occupant gets the TV, but signal isn't strong and shows kept buffering and freezing up anyway. This condo really needs another, functioning TV; otherwise, we just stare at our phones...boo. The only functioning water hose to wash the sand off was on second floor balcony so we used the fire escape to get there, which was awkward.
Overall, loved the condo. We'd be back if they fix the TV situation.
This beach house us setup for maximum enjoyment. All three levels have spectacular oceans views. The pirate ship theme is creatively incorporated into every space. The in door sauna with ocean views was a huge hit with our family. The main level deck was our favorite place to enjoy the perfect sunsets. The wood burning stove gave us a cozy cabin atmosphere after dark with the ocean sounds soothing us all night long. Beach access was great - we loved long walks and great afternoon sun. Will definitely be back!
Unique property with lots of little charming touches. Great location as it is right on the water! Overall our stay was great but I wish the listing would have said the hot tub was out of order due to Covid-19. We were very disappointed since that was one of our search criteria.
The house had a terrible mouse smell. We called and complained. Someone came much later the next day and did nothing but put out smelly plug ins. We removed the bait stations ourselves, but the smell was still really terrible in the kitchen area. When we turned on the dishwasher it was actually horrible. We couldn’t eat at the house. Didn’t ruin our trip, but sure made it a lot less fun!!! I thought 50% discount was fair. I received 25%. I would not recommend this rental ever.

Perfect Relaxing Getaway
My business partners and I have a Strategy Summit at the beginning of every year and we try to find a relaxing, quiet place where we can hole up for a weekend. This house was perfect. The setting was spectacular and what better way to disconnect and focus than while being right on the beach overlooking the Pacific. The only negative thing to say is that the room on the ground floor is noisy since the balcony is shared and leads to the beach stairway. People walking across are not always considerate with the noise they make.

Not worth the cost
Location is great on the property and I appreciate the old pirate ship theme of the interior. However, for the price I expected more comfort and function from this home. Some of the window shades were broken, thus blocking the ocean view, seating in the T.V. room was wicker and uncomfortable, no hot water in the bathtub, which was dangerous to get in & out of (built on a raised platform), sink in downstairs bath was cute but too small & hard to use, super dim lighting throughout, and no windows that open for ventilation. Also, very strange level variations in the downstairs room. I would not recommend this rental!

Almost like sailing the ocean
The ocean views and the all-wood, nautical-inspired interior gave us moments where we felt like we were sailing the ocean during the five wonderful nights we stayed here.
This Tri-level townhome sits in a row of about 30 connected townhomes lining the beach. There is easy beach access down a shared walkway from the bottom level and via a flight of stairs.
The interior was unique. It was like being on a small ship. If you enjoy wood and don't mind stairs, including a very tight, steep spiral staircase, you'll be able to navigate the interior with no problem. We especially enjoyed the large windows that allowed ocean views from all three levels. I happen to be tall - 6'3" - and I found it challenging to move to/from the small dining area due to a low beam that sits in between the two rooms. as long as I ducked my head I was fine. My 5'6" family members had no issues.
The kitchen was small but had the appliances and cookware we needed to make home-cooked meals and morning coffee. The powerful gas BBQ on the balcony worked great.
We used only the bedrooms and bathrooms on the top two levels. The queen-sized beds were comfortable. The bedroom on the top floor is small but sufficient. There was no place to hang clothes and no dresser. A case with pullout wicker baskets served as our makeshift dresser. The balcony just outside of this BR houses the hot tub.
The bedroom on the second level is immediately off the dining room. It has no windows and was just large enough for the bed and a small cabinet. Glass French doors separate the BR from the dining room and curtains allow for privacy.
The bedroom on the bottom level was the most awkward and the one we all avoided since we didn't need it. It's accessed by that narrow spiral staircase. It also had a mild moldy smell. The instructions said to keep the dehumidifier running, but we couldn't find one. The bathroom is unique and awkward. All of us, on multiple occasions, tripped when moving from the bedroom area to the bathroom door because of a small, unexpected change in the level of the floor. The bathroom has a tub that is perched so high that a only a 5-year old can stand in it.
None of the windows opened. They are all sealed. On the warmest adternoons we opened the doors and turned on the fans, which kept us comfortable. When it was cooler, we weren't able to enjoy the sound of the ocean with the doors closed.
Overall, the home was comfortable and we had a great time. I'd go back.
