Smithfield, VA

On a cold, snowy weekend in February, the house was a warm and welcome retreat, lovely in its isolation, with the water and the woods, yet close enough to amenities in Smithfield. The gas fireplace kept the living room cozy…The kitchen and dining area were large, more than adequate for our family of 4, and well equipped…The owner, Ches, was a pleasure to work with. We spoke several times before our arrival, because of the forecast for snow; he kept us up-to-date on conditions in the area. I highly recommend the house, and especially the ease of working with Ches.

A Hidden Gem

The property was an absolute blast to stay at. We attended to celebrate my wedding and I had a group of groomsmen and my Wife stay with me. It housed all 8 of us with ease, with room for more. Though I will say if you are looking to stay here with couples, it may not be ideal given the sizes of beds. The amenities were amazing, whether needing an EV charging station, a hot tub for late night relaxation, or a cozy piano corner to enjoy some calm melodies, you will have a fantastic stay with plenty of things to do. I would come to stay again if given the chance and I can’t wait to see their finished Dock being constructed.

Great stay in a quiet slice of the Virginia woods!

Excellent place to stay with all the requirements for rest, relaxation and a fully stocked kitchen. Stayed during Christmas during a cold period, but the home stayed comfortable - FYI the wood stove is chained shut, but there is a gas fireplace. The kitchen was great with on demand hot water. Maybe the addition of a tea kettle to heat water for tea would be a nice add.Did not get to use the hot tub, but did spend time on the pier watching ice floating down the river. The fire pit was wonderful. Sleeping accommodations were perfect, with plenty of linens/towels. The downstairs bath gets chilly, but had a space heater to use during the day. Probably perfect in warmer times. Communication was awesome, with Ches on check-in and out. Would definitely stay again if the opportunity arose.

Great place to get away from it all

I stayed here with a friend for a function that we had in Smithfield for the weekend. The closeness of the property to the town was excellent. The place was extremely clean and inviting. On our arrival we noticed that the place was huge. The kitchen was my favorite room. We spent a lot of time there just having great conversations. At first I thought the place was going to be cold, but it was extremely cozy and because heat rises, the rooms were comfortable to sleep in. Most of the rooms were upstairs sharing a bathroom. There was another downstairs bathroom and sleeping space on the porch.I am a college professor and it was the perfect place to grade papers. There is also a nice desk area where I could set up my "office" in the master bedroom. If you like to watch TV, the only places you will be doing this is in the living room and on the porch. You will need to stream your TV through your own account. Wifi is strong.Though this place was good to visit in the winter, I think in later spring or early fall would be the PERFECT time as you could add on many activities outside. Ches, our host, was in constant touch and available when we had questions.

My wife and I are actually from Smithfield! We have poured our love into creating a one-of-a-kind serene space where you can reconnect with family/friends and recharge! We can tell you all of the best places to eat and shop as experienced Smithfieldians!

Why they chose this property

This location is gorgeous and serene. It is a destination in and of it's self. You can take a quiet stroll through the woods or reflect and do yoga down at the river's edge. You can enjoy a dip in the hot tub and not worry about any visitors other than maybe a visit from our two outdoor kittens Onyx and Sweet Pea!

What makes this property unique

This is a perfectly restored log house built in the 80's. Inside you will find modern well appointed comfort in a gorgeous natural wood cabin!
