lakefront getaway

The view of the lake is incredible! The bedrooms were a good size, and the house gave everyone space to be together and occasional alone time. The kitchen is beautiful and was well equipped for cooking, important to my chef daughter! The lake has a sand bottom, not murky at all. Loved the sunroom! Firepit was great for s'mores, and great seating for enjoying the outdoors. the property has seating with a table for dining close to the water which was amazing. Lots of trees were nice for seating and enjoying the outside around the property.

Beautiful and historic piece of heaven

We had a wonderful vacation at this property. It met all our needs. Plenty of space inside and out. Great deck, and dock for fishing and swimming. We actually caught a nice size bass! The sunroom quickly became a favorite hangout. Very conveniently located to the cross in the woods, as well as Indian River. Thank for the fabulous memories!

Relaxation at its Best!

We had a wonderful time, despite the weather! The house was clean and welcoming and we took advantage of all that the house and the area had to offer. We had two days that felt like summer and we enjoyed the lake both days. One day we just hung out on the deck and dock and enjoyed the fire pit. The other day we rented a boat at Indian River Marina and cruised around Burt Lake, Indian River and Mullett Lake. On the rainy days, we enjoyed the fire place and went to Petoskey, Odon Fish Hatchery, and drove the tunnel of trees. It was a great house and we are taking great memories home with us!

Beautiful cottage on Burt Lake

We had an wonderful weekend at this cottage! My favorite part was the sunroom looking out toward the lake. Outside there was a great bonfire pit, deck overlooking the lake, and a dock. You can walk out for quite a ways into the lake before it gets deep. It was so quiet and peaceful the whole weekend. We would definitely stay at this place again in the future.

Beautiful and tranquil

Dave (owner) was very attentive and communicative. Close to everything and yet nestled away in a stunning setting. The house is well designed with the master on one side and the other bedrooms on the other. The new kitchen is pretty and very functional. The fire pit is perfect and can be used as a charcoal grill as well. There is an outside dining table with a full view of the lake and steps from the house. We also spent a lot of time on the porch relaxing and gazing out on the water. The sunsets were amazing and the night sky stunning (more stars than the city lights allow)! Perfect place for a wonderful vacation!

Perfect Northern Michigan Getaway

This was the perfect rental home for our family -- with 3 kids under 12 and the grandparents in tow, there was ample room for everyone! The house was stocked with every convenience you can think of -- including some food spices. The house was right on the water -- spectacular views greeted us every morning and every night. The lake was a nice sandy bottom and only waist to thigh deep for a long probably 100-yards or more. Perfect for the little ones, and idea for any other family with elementary school kids. The outdoor areas included a large fire pit, hammock and a nice outdoor dining table that overlooked the lake. We had s'mores by the campfire just about every night. The home is also in the perfect location -- short ride to grocery store and downtown Indian River. It was close to Petoskey, Cheboygan and Mackinaw City. The owner, Dave, was super responsive to all of our questions leading up to our visit and when things popped up during our stay -- they were addressed quickly. The one issue we encountered was with the pontoon boat and the build up of sand that made it difficult to get the boat in and out of the hoist. Outside of that it was the perfect family vacation and I would highly recommend this house to anyone! Oh, and I noticed a review talking about the lack of air conditioning -- we had some very warm days (upper 80s) but once the sun set, a nice cool breeze came off the lake and made it very comfortable for sleeping. Thumbs up all around for this place!

Amazing and unforgettable`

If we make our way back to Indian river we will not look any further for a place to stay. This place is simply awesome and really felt like home during our stay. Two elders, three of their adult kids, and plenty of teenage grandkids the first couple nights so we were tight but didn't bother us a bit. Monday some went home. We brought a couple small boats(16ft) with us and had no problem leaving them floating in the water with an anchor. The first couple days were fairly warm so we spent most of the days floating in the water. Boat rides through Indian river are a must do, if you don't have a boat rent a pontoon. Indian river is no wake so that is a slow cruise but so fun and lots to look at along the way. Crooked river was a fun surprise as this one allows wake before or after housed areas. Cruising through the water alley's cut through vegetation was unforgettable. We had to slow down at one point because a deer jumped in the river to swim to the other side. That was neat. We cooked in most nights, that grill over the fire pit was so awesome and we made good use of it. Early evenings seem to get windy and choppy on water but about sunset it is so calm, nice breeze, and the sky filled with stars made perfect fire pit nights with the entire family. Just can't say enough how much we enjoyed our stay here. What this house has to offer is well beyond our expectations. This kitchen is well equipped, but for my dad's amazing margarita's on the hot day's we were in need of a blender so we bought one and left it behind to share. I wish I would have wrote down the margarita recipe and left it inside blender! Thank you McDade's for sharing your beautiful home with us. Side note: We are a Sparty family and noticed this was a divided home. Love it, but we were saying Go Green the entire week, haha.

Relaxing Times at Aquemok

The property is well maintained and the location on Burt Lake is just about perfect. My goodness, you can walk out so far before the water even hits your waist. The kitchen, flooring, and deck improvements are great! The dock is great for sunbathing. We had a lovely time. The steps going down from the yard to the first part of the deck might need a railing? Liability? As you know the weather was unseasonably hot this year and the girls were saying "why don't they have air conditioning??" in typical 12 and 8 year old fashion. As I took a walk in the evenings down Argonaut trail, I could see that maybe only 1 house has AC. The kitchen is hot. The girls also wanted fans in their rooms. Anyway, all those things are a tall order, and would involve some serious thought on your part. The first year we were there, it was not hot like this. Well, it's Michigan, no one usually needs AC. But yes, overall, we loved it. :)

Very nicely designed and outfitted house in a great location

Aquemok is a well-designed house right on Burt lake at the end of a small road. Our family of two adults and two kids rented it along with my brother's family of the same. The owner, David and his wife, have the house well-outfitted in the kitchen and laundry room and the bedrooms. Two 'adult' bedrooms, and two suitable for kids worked great for us. The common area is also nice with plenty of room for our two families. We rented the place in the dead of winter during very cold weather and the house was nice and cozy with good heat and a fireplace. We skied nearby at Nub's Nob which was 30 mins away with road speed reduced due to snow. David was very helpful and responsive and answered all our questions. We had a great time and recommend the house!

Perfect in every way!

We rented this house with friends and it was perfect! Beautiful view, privacy, wonderful layout, lots of room and places to relax outside. We brought a speedboat with us and although we didn't dock it, there was plenty of space for us to park it in the driveway. The location is absolutely perfect! Close to the waterway - we took a trip from the house all the way to the Mackinaw Bridge and back and made it in 8 hours (could have been shorter had we not had to deal with 5-6 foot waves on Lake Huron). Lots of good restaurants and bars nearby - some local gems too! We had one rainy day so took advantage of the non-boating weather to visit some local wineries and breweries and ended up following the wine trail up to Petoskey which was a beautiful drive and we found some wonderful bars and restaurants up there as well. Dave is wonderful to work with, very helpful in answering all of my questions and very knowledgeable about the area. Would highly recommend this home! We plan on renting again, and are also looking forward to bringing our children next time!

Perfect Family Vacation Spot

This is the third year that we have stayed in Indian River and the third house that we have rented here, it is without a doubt the best! It has been difficult in the past to find a beach that is suitable for kids. There are only a few steps down to the water and there is a small area of sand that the kids can play in. The house itself is very comfortable and well equipped with everything you need during your stay.

Amazing and perfect location

This by far was one of the best trips to Indian River (Burt Lake) since my grandparents lived up here many years ago. Amenities and layout of the house accommodated all us 7 adults (8 over the weekend) and 1 dog nicely. The views were amazing! The property itself was fantastic, had a bonfire every night and swam most days. The home is a great location to Mackinaw, Petosky, there are wineries in the area now and you could walk to the Shrine. Vivios is a must while visiting!!! My family and I had a wonderful trip and would recommend "The End of the Trail" home to anyone. Will definitely return!

Great stay-too short!

We have rented lake homes for the last 16 years on Black, Mullett, and Burt Lakes. This gem was the best by far. Many times a home is advertised as a four bedroom, but turns out to be a two bedroom, a closet, and a cot in the living room. This place was roomy and well laid out. The lake view was amazing. I would definitely recommend and hope to return next year.
