This beautiful cottage sits on top of a dune, 50 feet from a tranquil beach on Lake Superior, in the heart of the unspoiled Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is just 12 miles east of Marquette (the largest and most vibrant city in the UP).
The cottage was completely updated (2012) and is furnished as a cozy home… not as a vacation rental. The spacious living/dining room (30’ x 18’) opens onto the large deck overlooking the lake and beach. The IKEA kitchen (10’ x 18’) is fully equipped. The first bedroom is on the main floor and has a queen sized bed. The second bedroom is upstairs and has a queen sized bed and 2 adorable built-in twin beds. All of the beds have comfortable memory foam mattresses. Upstairs there is also an office space with a futon that can be used as an additional sleeping area. There are 2 bathrooms, one with a shower, the other with a claw foot tub.
The location is incredibly peaceful, ideal for swimming, hiking, bird watching, and relaxing. Watch beautiful sunsets, Lake Superior in all her many colors and moods, and if you're lucky, the Aurora Borealis (the Northern Lights), all from the cozy living room or back deck overlooking the lake. Nearby Marquette is a college town that is bustling in the summertime, with local cafes, bakeries, restaurants, music venues and festivals, breweries, a food co-op, art galleries, museums, attractive harbor with a beautiful public park, and a wonderful Saturday farmer’s market. There are opportunities to fish, sail, play golf, kayak, and mountain bike on a very well-maintained, extensive network of single-track trails. The area is home to many pristine waterfalls, lakes, and the North Country Trail. You can also explore the nearby Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore hiking, kayaking, or cruising in a boat. The park is 30 miles to the east. The nearest gas station, grocery store, and drug store from the cottage are 6 miles away in Harvey.
