Amazing !!

The lake, cottage, location were all fabulous. We love our northern Michigan get aways and this one is now towards the top of our list. Crystal clear lake for swimming, fishing and water sports. Close to a tubing trip down the Manistee, a visit to Shortts Brewery, the Hideway bar (great food and service), and so much more. Definitely recommend.

Wonderful location; less-than-desirable cleanliness

Loved the location (we've stayed on the same lake many times over decades, so were familiar with it) and the property is cute, in a retro sort of way. Cottage was not clean upon arrival. Host was kind and apologized for lack of cleanliness, but did not offer any kind of reimbursement. Worked very well for our five people, but upstairs loft has a very low ceiling, so would have worked better for small children.

Beautiful quiet lake with everything you need in the cabin.

We stayed in October so not a lot of noise on the lake. Very pretty fall colors & sunsets. We would like to go again in the summer to enjoy the lake more.

Cozy cabin on Big Twin Lakes.

Cozy cabin on big twin Lakes. This cabin is perfect for a midsize group who’s planning to be outside all weekend. Property could be updated, and some small things could be added to make things more comfortable, such as a dehumidifier and better toiletries and towels. The lake is beautiful and quiet, the rowboat supplied was out of commission, but overall we had a wonderful time.

Amazing place

What an awesome cottage! My family of 4 stayed there. Not big but plenty of room for us. We brought our 18ft searay, which fit perfectly at the dock....make sure you bring bumpers and good ropes as the lake gets rough with boat traffic during the day. No wake before 11am and after 730pm which is njce for night crusies or fishing. Everything you need is at the cottage, the only thing that could be upgraded is the grill....it is a small tabke top camping grill, that uses the little green camping propanes. I grill a lot and it worked perfectly but is very small and would have been great to have a larger one so i didnt have to cook in shifts. That would be the only negative.

Family Vacation

Very quiet and relaxing vacation for our Family of 4. Cabin was clean & outfitted with all the necessities. Beautiful lake, fantastic view off the porch, through the trees, especially at sunset. 1 1/2 bath was convenient. WiFi and satellite worked well. The top deck was great for morning coffee, listening to the loons, books in the afternoon. Dock was the best for stars and sunsets. Could use a new stairway into the water. Clean, clear, sand bottom lake was spectacular to be understated. We brought kayaks but the provided rowboat was a plus. Very little boat, jetski traffic on the lake. So a row to the middle for a beer and some fishing was calming. Boat could use a new oar guide. Overall vacation was a winner. Would recommend this location.

Great Escape

My husband and I had a relaxing week to celebrate our anniversary. The cabin was clean and cozy, and the lake was gorgeous. Reading a book on the porch while we listen to loons and seagulls and the wind in the trees was the perfect escape from the regular busy grind. Communication with the property manager was quick and easy, too. Would absolutely stay again.

Great place to stay

We had a great time. The lake was beautiful, and crystal clear, and the cottage was just as it shown in the ad. Tressia was very responsive when we needed, but otherwise left us alone to enjoy our stay. We would definitely come back again!

Peaceful stay on a beautiful lake.

The cottage was very much like my childhood cottage, so it was a treat to see my grandsons enjoy it. We even enjoyed the Fourth of July boat parade from the dock. The young grandsons all caught lots of fish from the dock. I enjoyed floating on my raft and watching everyone play. The paved road was great for morning walks around the lake. Thanks for a great time.

Relaxing Family Vacation!

We had a wonderful time at the Wickwood Cottage. Was so nice to relax and enjoy the peaceful lake. The home has everything you would need. Kids loved the upstairs loft. Beds were comfortable. My only complaint is the dock. Had a few cracked pieces of wood which made me a little uneasy. Overall, this is a beautiful cottage on a gorgeous lake. Would definitely come back!

very peaceful great fishing and swiming

Beds very comfortable, slept great every night. Very cozy living room and kitchen. Had everything we needed, cable tv, internet plenty of hot water. My granddaughter slept upstairs in the loft, loved it. Water is up about 3 feet, so you can swim right of the end of the dock. As for fishing 3 of my younger grand kids and I caught about 200 fishes for several sizes and variety, including 5 18-20 inch large mouth bass, one my 11 year old grand daughter caught on a $8 walmart kids fishing setup. My advice is 1/2 of a night crawler with a bobber, with hook 2 feet below surface and a small weight to hold the line down. You will get bites every time, but be patient and let the fish nibble a while. I caught the big bass and big bluegills on spinners and rubber worms. Great time with fire in the fire pit. there is some wood there but it needs to be split. Don't buy wood at the store, there are alot of people selling wood on the roads leading to the lake, and will sell you 1/4 cord for $20, and it will last you 7-10 day. Terrisa is great. Have a great time, I will be back, if they will have me. One word of advice, walk slowing down the outside stairs, they are a little steep.

A Pleasant But Not Perfect Fall Vacation

Our week at "Wickwood" (during the first week of October), in expectation of "leaf-peeping" to our hearts' content, proved to be less than spectacular. Part of the problem was Mother Nature's fault--she just did not bless us this year with a vista of trees in full color around the lake. Nor did she provide any hungry fish that were reachable from either the dock on the property or from the dock at the public access site around the corner. The fact that I never saw one fishing boat on the lake during the whole week suggests that this body of water does not provide fish for humans, just some loons who take up residence there. (Some locals I spoke to confirmed that they had never heard of anyone's catching fish on the lake! No wonder that I never had even one nibble in two days of fishing!) Oh, there was a rowboat available for use, but not for an 81-year-old who is no longer fleet of foot anymore to be able to access the boat situated overturned on a very steep bank, several feet out of reach above the water. Prior to taking occupancy of the cottage, I had inquired about the boat and was told it was there for use. The owner did know of my age, yet made no provision for making the craft more accessible to an old codger such as I. (I guess I could have called for help with it, but there did not seem to be any point, considering the fishability of the water.) The cottage itself was very clean, the furniture was comfortable--even the beds--and the kitchen was well stocked with good utensils and pans. The flat-screen TV, cable, and internet were very good. The cabin itself makes good use of its small area, even though the dark '60's, '70's paneling in the kitchen/great room, hall, and master bedroom simply accentuated the gloom of a cloudy or rainy day. The dark bamboo shades didn't help either. The owners may want to consider adding a couple of safety features to their cabin--smoke detectors, bathmat or safety appliques for the bathtub, and even perhaps a couple of grab bars on the interior walls of the tub area. (Incidentally, two very good restaurants in the area were The Iron Skillet in Mancelona and Trout's in Kalkaska, each over 10 miles away.)

Cozy Fall Get Away

Wickwood was perfect for our fall retreat. Cozy cottage perfect for the two of us. Recently decorated it was tasteful and comfortable. Immaculate. Kitchen is small but equipped for basic cooking, we stayed in most nights to enjoy the lake and fire pit. The lake is the star attraction, sand bottom with crystal clear water. Very quiet. We arrived to the sound of loons calling and had a daily visit from a heron who used the dock at sunset to hunt dinner. Wickwood has two nice bedrooms and a sleeping loft with four additional beds but the living area is quite small. Ideal for small families or 1-2 couples. Would I come back,? Absolutely. Would I recommend this to others? Yes, but I would like to keep it a secret so it is available when I want to return next summer.

Super clean cabin with great view and perfect swimming!

The cabin is very clean, cute, and comfortable and stocked with everything you need for your stay. Really, really loved the fire pit with the view overlooking the lake! Very beautiful and relaxing to watch the wildlife in the morning/evening. This location is perfect for swimming....shallow, warm water that gradually gets deeper with no weeds! My husband used the row boat for fishing and even caught a rock bass just fishing off the dock. It is a 15-20 minute drive to the nearest store, etc, which some people may not like, but being away from the busyness of town is considered a plus for us when on vacation. Many houses nearby sell fire wood, which was all we needed after we got groceries the first day. I really would like to rate this 4.5 but that's not an option. The only thing that prevented me from giving it a 5 is that there is not a table outside to eat (or play cards or whatever), which we really missed. Next time we would bring our fold-up picnic table along. Overall this is a fantastic place for a fun, quiet, and relaxing vacation! Highly recommend it!

Great peaceful getaway!

The Wickwood Cottage was a great peaceful place for our family of four. Our stay was a little non traditional as we needed to stay on the lake for a number of weeks. Our two boys found plenty to do between the outdoors, wildlife, tv internet, and games inside the house. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in northern Michigan!
