About this property

Private Studio in the middle of a 750 acres working Cattle Ranch

Private studio with dedicated entrance. Spend the night nestled in the middle of a working cattle ranch in Valley Springs! By day, hike the rolling hills of the vast 750 acres ranch. Observe a wide variety of bird and wildlife, check out the abandoned gold mines on the property, and catch a glimpse of Mark Twain's famous jumping frog if you're lucky (the ranch is a designated habitat). Nearby, soak up the sun at multiple recreational lakes, hit the surrounding trails for a little more activity, or go shopping in some of the cute nearby towns. Come evening, unwind with a stunning view of the milky way in the open night sky.

Studio has a queen size bed, desk area, and seating nook. TV with Netflix and Wi-Fi included (though we think the night sky beats any movie). Modern bathroom with a large rain-shower. No kitchen but larger mini fridge to keep groceries cool and coffee bar to relax in the morning. You are also welcome to use the BBQ. Pack-and-play and child seat available.

Notes:
* This is second story studio with sloped ceiling. Watch your head in the corners.
* The ranch has two working dogs who are very friendly even when they bark at first at strangers.

Pleasant lodging for a single or couple

Roland (and family, and dogs) are very pleasant and great hosts! Great lodging for a single or couple if you want simplicity and to get away from urban areas. Clean, comfortable, the wifi works well, and the shower is ludicrously nice :D Please consider the following: -the property is about a mile down a one-lane gravel road that might be a bit treacherous for low ground-clearance vehicles like sedans -the air conditioner is a little weak and will take some time to cool the apartment during the hottest part of the summer Reasonably close to Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, and Sacramento, while avoiding the logistics involved in staying at these popular destinations - highly recommended!

Working Ranch - Yes!

The stay was exactly as advertised: a 750-acre working ranch near Valley Springs, CA (Calaveras County), two friendly dogs, cats, a dark sky for Milky Way viewing and photography, and a Host who was friendly, helpful, and easy to communicate with. The studio is over a set of garages next to the main house, yet we could have gone the whole time without seeing our Host. Instead, we chose to have a beer with him and his visiting business partner on the patio; very enjoyable! And yes, we did bump our heads a time or two and the kitchen area is small - just know that going in and you'll be fine! (Oh, and the stairs to the studio are steep; we didn't have a problem but good to know ahead of time, if you might.)

I am a retired widower who splits my time between working our family ranch and traveling the world. Originally from Germany my favorite countries have been South Africa and Mongolia. I live in the ranch house next door. Come say hi or enjoy your peace and quiet.

Why they chose this property

The ranch takes up the entire valley and your only neighbors are our cattle, horses, two dogs, barn cats, and the many native species.
