About this property

Lake Access Cottage, fenced, private, pet friendly, sleeps 6 with sleeper sofa

Relax in my 2-bedroom cottage. We’re not lakefront but we are so close, we are lake accessible. You’ll have a pier & channel behind your cottage. Paddle 20 ft. down the channel running behind the cottage, it leads directly to Big Lake’s 2nd basin. You have your own pier onto the channel to drop your kayak in. Plus you’re only 7 miles from Chain O’Lakes State Park. There are 3 basins to our 300 acre, Big Lake. 1st basin has ski speeds from 1:00 to 4:00 each day. The rest of the time our beautiful lake is 10 mph or less.
Enjoy a well-stocked kitchen, a refrigerator with top freezer, electric stovetop & oven, microwave, toaster, drip coffee maker and double sink. I provide coffee filters, ground coffee ( regular & decaf) plus a local blend by NewEra Coffee. There are lots of spices, a food processor, air fryer, pots, cookie sheets, pizza pan, silverware, bowls, plates, cups, wine glasses and coffee mugs, grilling tools and racks for the outdoor fire pit or charcoal patio grill. I offer plastic and glass dinnerware, bowls & cups. The shower has body wash, shampoo & conditioner, along with lotion and hand sanitizer. There‘s a hair dryer & a magnifying mirror in the bathroom.
The cozy space has 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed, there’s a full bath, tub/shower. I welcome your pets, a $80 fee will cover additional cleaning & sanitizing steps following each visit. The quantity will affect the daily price if over 1 pet. Over 1 pet, please message me with your pets details, sizes, quantity etc. Our cozy living room has a sleeper sofa and the 3-season room lets you spread out. We have a washer & dryer, with laundry detergent for your convenience. You’ll love our quiet, peaceful setting. Come relax, read, use the yoga mat, have a glass of wine while enjoying the birds and all that nature has to show you!
My cottage boasts a large almost fully-fenced yard with fire pit, charcoal grill & private patio. Along the channel, there is 20 feet, where there is no fencing, just foliage & trees. It’s a very quiet area, if you’re seeking reflection and solitude. Come and enjoy this piece of paradise.
I take every effort to clean the cottage top to bottom, between each guests’ booking. I use only organically grounded products and solutions in cleaning Tulip Cottage.
Guests can enjoy the entire house, your own fenced-in yard, ( if you have pets please bring their crates so you don’t leave them alone, also bring poop bags. You can enjoy evening fires in the burning pit or grill-out on the charcoal patio grill, as well as venture out on your small craft using your own pier, to paddle on the channel leading to Big Lake’s 2nd basin. A neighborhood boat launch is just across the street from the cottage if you bring your own fishing or speed boat. There is no public beach however there is a new, quite long public pier that you can fish from and a boat launch on the other side of the lake. You can enjoy bicycling, walks, time on the water or enjoying gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. You’ll be within 7 miles of Indiana’s Chain O’Lakes State Park, for hiking, picnics and they rent canoes & kayaks as well. There’s a paddle trail to literally paddle from one lake to the next and the next. You can paddle & explore for miles!
Other things to note -
There’s a white noise device available in one bedroom. And an iPhone dock, clock/alarm in the other bedroom. Both bedrooms have new queen beds and each has a task reading light if you enjoy reading in bed. There’s a living room lamp with USB ports and if the cottage loses power, the lamp stays illuminated for 24 hours. The charcoal grill comes with grilling utensils and a grill mitt. The fire pit comes with skewers, a cast iron skillet, and a grilling basket to fry your fish after you catch it! Firewood bundles can be purchased here for $5. I provide your first wood bundle. Don’t forget to bring your charcoal and lighter fluid. If you forget, I can help with that! You can rent kayaks from me, life jackets, I also have dog life jackets of varying sizes and paddles here too. Kayaks rent for $75/person for the duration of your stay. I welcome pets but I do have a house rule asking that guests keep their pets off the furniture and out of the beds. There will be a $200 added charge if dog hair is found on the bed linens, or on the furniture, when I clean up and do the laundry. A quantity over 1 pet will affect your daily price. Message me with your pets’ details, size, quantity, etc. The $200 charge also applies if you’ve smoked inside or if the cottage is left “dirty & used” At check-out. Please understand I want each guest to experience a spotless and clean stay :)
We look forward to welcoming you.

Quiet getaway

It was a nice place for my husband and I to get away. The hostess was in contact with us about our reservation and what was already at the location. She was available for any questions we might have. The place was very clean and homey. The only thing was the uncomfortable bed and there wasnt much of a water front. Everything else was great!

Quiet cottage

My coworker and I were in the area for work we stayed a little longer than 2 weeks and loved it. Its right by the lake so theres plenty of fishing and lake activities to do. We rented kayaks from the host and fish all over the lake. The house itself is small but very cozy. Has everything you need and more. The property is well kept we spent a lot of time in the backyard just relaxing listening to the birds chirp. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a nice relaxing stay away from the city. I hope we come back to the area and get to stay here again.

Nice but a couple of drawbacks

The only things I would say are drawbacks about this place, when we put our dog food by the back door it was covered by ants, I do mean covered. We moved it across the room and away from that wall/door it was ok. Secondly the radiant heating that runs on a thermostat does not work. We used space heaters. They worked well enough after waking up a couple of times to adjust the temerature to get them set right. Third, the TVs are just antenna TVs. There is WIFI but the tvs are not. The place was cute, quaint, clean. Sally was helpful and super nice, even made muffins for us she left in the fridge. Was a nice stay for a copuple of days.

Beautiful Lake retreat with gracious host.

Sally was a gracious host. She was very kind, generous and eager to please and meet your needs. Sally even delivered some of her garden vegetables and fruits for me to enjoy. The house was very clean and well maintained. It’s a guest house behind the main house with its own private yard and steps to the lake (behind the main house.) It is dated but it’s what you see in the pictures. It has all the basic essentials and was perfect for a low key weekend getaway. The lake was clean and very beautiful but it is a 10mph only lake with very limited open speed times. If a quite lake is what you are looking for than this lake is perfect. I caught only 3 bass in 2 days but it was very hot. Supposedly it’s a good fishing lake but there were hardly many boats out there. Regardless it’s a beautiful setup and I highly recommend Sally’s place.

About the host

Host profile image
I have recently moved to this wonderful northeastern Indiana lake country. All the seasons are fun up here and full of many outdoor sports. I enjoy cross country skiing when Big Lake freezes over. In warm weather I enjoy swimming, paddle boarding & kayaking. I enjoy the kayak paddle trail at Chain O’Lakes State Park as well as picnics and hiking. I love to walk and I enjoy reading fiction. I love to bake for and welcome my guests then offer you privacy, peace and quiet. Besides being so close to Chain O’Lakes State Park ( they do rent kayaks & canoes), I am also close to Black Pines Animal Sanctuary and Merry Lea’s 1,189-acre nature preserve where you’ll find wetlands, prairies and trails for hiking. Their Learning Center closes each day at 5 pm but the preserve is open dawn to dusk 365 days a year. My 600 sq. ft. cottage sleeps 6, it’s non-smoking. Please come visit.

Why they chose this property

The lake changes by the day sometimes by the hour. The fish, turtles and ducks & birds as well as the natural light create a mesmerizing natural beauty. I paint and enjoy trying to capture this. I love nature. I’ve put up a wood duck house on the lake and, a bat house on the property as well. I have more than a dozen bird houses, bird and squirrel feeders; come enjoy the sights and sounds of the woods and our lake.

What makes this property unique

Tulip Cottage is cozy, comfortable and homey allowing you to settle in & relax. It’s many steps away from traffic, the city’s noise and pace. The neighbors are friendly, you’ll feel right at home. Our fenced yard offers privacy so you can be in your own world. There is no fencing on your private pier and along the channel for about 25 ft. where there’s trees/foliage. There’s a burning pit with chairs out back, the patio has more seating to enjoy a meal outdoors, a charcoal grill, a table and chairs plus a glider. I will provide your first firewood bundle then additional firewood bundles are $5. I rent kayaks, paddles and life jackets. I have a variety of sizes of life jackets for children, adults and even your dog, if you want them to go out on the water with you!
