Perfect Spot for Our Group of 12

We recently had a wonderful time staying for a long weekend at this house. Going into the trip, no one in our party had heard of Hyco Lake, but the listing and pictures really sold this house as a nice place to stay and relax. Well, the pictures didn't do it justice and we hope to stay here again some day! The house was very clean, and the furnishings were all very nice. You never know what you will get, so it was nice to find a kitchen stocked with everything we needed with such good quality. We spent the most of our time hanging on the dock and floating in the deep water. The boathouse was large and easily able to accomodate our group including eating a few meals down there. Don't hesitate to stay here - you won't be disappointed!

Lucky Last Minute Booking!

We had to cancel our plans just a couple weeks before a trip to Lake Norman due to some extended family health issues but we still wanted to spend some time on the lake closer to home. We knew we wouldn't find anything for the 4th but we were able to book this property for 6/29-7/3. I wasn't sure what to expect since it was so last minute but we were pleasantly surprised. The home was clean and adorably decorated. It was just perfect for our group of 5 overnight guests plus family daytime visitors to the dock. We brought a boat and docked it beside the dock, which worked well for our tritoon. The sunsets were stunning and we enjoyed fishing from the dock. We also enjoyed the floating mat and the SUPs. The beds were comfy and we slept well after long days on the water. The house was also well-stocked with basic necessities like paper products, soaps, and the kitchen had everything we needed. I did think the kitchen was a little tight/cluttered and we didn't have a lot of space for our food but we made it work. The house is built on a hill so there are a lot of steps. I think it was about 35 from the dock up to the bottom level of the house. This was not a problem for our group but could be for older guests or small children. The way the house is situated allows for beautiful lake views from the deck and makes you feel like you're sitting right on the water. We would stay here again! Thanks Heather!

Magical Spot

They say you instantly relax when you are around water and this lake house is incredible for that. As soon as you walk down the front stairs you see the incredible view out of the combined living room, kitchen and dining area. We ate all of our meals outside on the patio and were happy there were 2 sets of tables to use as well as the rocking chairs. Literally every morning we sat outside drinking our coffee rocking away. The water activities are endless here. They have all the life vests and tubes so no need to pack those. We had a 2 year old and a 4 year old with us and they loved the floating pad you could put out into the lake. We also used the kayaks and found it was easier to do on Monday when all of the boat traffic had left from the weekend. This house has a lot of stairs. We found it easier to carry all of our groceries inside using the outside stairs down to the kitchen with cooler bags. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots/pans, spoons, lots of silverware, and plastic cups, bowls, etc. The only negative would be the parking and finding this place. I wish there had been more than 2 spots next to the house since we came with elderly people and kids it was tough to haul everything in. Also when you google map it it tells you that you have arrived 3 houses too soon. Keep driving till you hit the round about. Maybe post a little picture map. I would 100% re-book this property. The views are worth everything! Such a magical spot.

About the host

Our family is originally from central New York, but we have called North Carolina our home for nearly 25 years now. Growing up in central New York, we were surrounded by beautiful lakes, rivers, waterfalls, mountains and hiking trails. Our love for nature and the outdoors is what led our family to seek a vacation property that would provide an easy, peaceful and fun escape from our busy everyday lives. It was love at first sight when we found this property, which we now call "The Rabbit Hole". Due to it's location on the peninsula, this home offers water views from nearly every window of the house! The fireflies light up our yard right at dusk from late spring to early fall, it's really magical to watch. Here are some of our favorite things to do while visiting the lake: kayaking, SUP'ing, tubing, boating, reading, relaxing, playing games, shuffleboard, cornhole and visiting all the unique restaurants, wineries, breweries, and shops/antique shops that the surrounding area has to offer. BUT perhaps our family's favorite thing to do together is fish at the end of our dock where the water is 15-20' deep and well-stocked with a variety of fish for us to catch and release. We highly recommend you bring a fishing pole, or head to Buoys on the lake to buy yourself a pole and some fresh bait during your stay. Oh, and grab a scoop of ice cream while you're there!

Why they chose this property

It's a quiet private street with lovely neighbors, a perfect getaway spot.

What makes this property unique

It's location! It's beauty! It's peacefulness! Literally, water is all around us because the home was built into a little hillside with slightly elevated views. **Please note that this is a 3-story home with more stairs leading down to the dock/boathouse**
